Poem #78: Toast
#79 of Poetry
Assignment #7/8 of my college Creative Writing Poetry class. This assignment was to write a poem of descriptive imagery about something constantly in our lives, or something that sticks out. I eat A LOT of toast, so here we are.
Toast
The edges are strong but weak
Crumbling into tiny pieces
That scatter across the plate.
Red hot metal burns
Its marks and its heat into
The soft bread
Making it harder
And crumbier
The soft butter
Melts into each pore of wheat
Disappearing and softening
The bread once more
Leaving it soft and golden.
