The Haunted Isle -Chapter 3-
Kath gently picked up Sam's unconscious body and carried it to the back of the cave still fanning her. "Sam, wake up!" He said to her with no avail. Alex continued to stare at the footprints on the ground.
"That, umm whatever it is, sure gave her a scare" Max said.
"Well let me try this..." Kath said, he pulled his hand back and slapped her across the face, before he knew it her hand came up and slapped him back. Kath fell to the ground rubbing his cheek.
"What was that for?" Sam yelled at him rubbing her cheek.
"You fainted; I just tried to wake you up." He snapped back.
"Alright you two, no fighting," Alex said sternly "We have a problem." He walked back to the others.
"What is it?" Brit asked looking very curious. Alex turned and pointed towards the mouth of the cave, up in the sky there were large clouds of black smoke coming from the beach.
"What is that?" Stacy asked.
"Well, hopefully it's a forest fire and NOT my father's boat." He replied walking out of the cave and towards the smoke. The others followed closely hoping they weren't stranded on the island with no phone, Except Sam who was busy trying to wipe some of the blood from her hair facing the back of the cave, she didn't even notice the others left. A few minutes later she herd footsteps behind her and she turned around with a smile, her smile quickly faded, what she saw made her scream even louder than before and faint again.
-Meanwhile-
Alex and the others were on the beach looking at what was left of the boat. Alex had fallen to his knees with his face buried in his paws. The others stood in shock watching the last ember smolder in the waves.
"How could this have happened?" Stacy asked kneeling next to Alex and hugging him.
"Someone had to of done it" He replied "Or something." He looked at her. "You remember those footprints we saw back at the cave?" He asked her.
"Yeah, but what do you mean 'Something'?" She asked looking curiously at him.
"I saw those exact same footprints when we landed, they were fresh" He replied "And whatever made them doesn't want us to leave; and I'm sure it wants us de..." He was cut off by a sharp scream coming from the cave he stood and noticed that Sam wasn't with them. "Sam!" he yelled and started running towards the cave. The others ran after him closely. They quickly came to the cave and rushed in, Sam was no where to be found.
"Damn it!" Alex swore "Where is she?"
"Alex calm down we'll find her." Kath reassured him.
"How can you be sure" He asked "We have no idea where she could be!"
"Because..." He trailed off, he looked down at the ground and saw the odd footprints, and they were fresh. "You guys stay here, I'll go find her."
"All by yourself?" Stacy asked shocked.
"Yes, I'll be fine" He replied, his usual soft features seemed very serious now "You guys stay alert." He ran out of the cave following the footprints into the deep jungle. He ran for what seemed to be hours following the footprints and Sam's scent. He ran into a clearing with a large building in the middle of it. He sniffed the air, Sam was close by, and he ran quickly towards the building. He stopped in front of a door, he tried it but it was locked. He chuckled taking the lock as a challenge and kicked the door strongly. He chuckled again as the door landed inside a few hundred feet from the entrance. "Sam?!" He cried out, the only reply was an echo. "Samantha!!" He cried louder, this time there was a faint noise, he couldn't make out the words but he knew it was Sam's voice. He walked into the center of the abandoned room; a nearby sign, with many claw marks in it read "Lobby". He took a short look around and saw many over turned tables, chairs desks and blood stains all on the walls. He sniffed the air again and followed her scent to the back of the lobby and down a hallway. "Sam!" He cried again. He listened hard.
"Kath it's..." Replied a feminine voice but it faded quickly.
Kath darted towards the voice turning down a few more hallways until he came to a door that was soaked in blood. He walked up to it and twisted the handle and thrust the door open. He walked inside to a room with many tubes and broken glass. He walked to the middle of the room. "Sam?" He said loudly. There was a series of muffled noises coming from behind one of the tables. Kath ran towards the table and jumped to the other side, there he saw Sam tied up and gagged with a cloth; he quickly untied her and untied the cloth.
"Kath, it's a trap!" She said looking horrified.
What do you mean?" He asked, there was a loud crash behind him, he turned and looked into a shadowed corner, there were footsteps then a figure emerged from the shadows. Kath gasped, it was an Orca, or part of one. The other half's skin was greenish and his face was twisted horribly, his leg and foot were larger than the other one, His paw was deformed but had massive claws.
"What's the matter pretty boy?" the creature asked his voice scratchy and rough "You look scared." The creature let out a screech-like laugh.
"Who are you and what do you want" Kath said to it.
"Me?" He asked in an innocent tone, "Why I'm just a friend of hers" He said pointing to Sam.
"For the last time I've never met you!" She shouted, standing behind Kath.
"Stop lying!" He shouted back "I know who you are Alexis"
"Stop calling me that!" She shouted back her voice very shaken. She looked at the misshapen thing for a while before her eyes shot wide open. "Alexis" She whispered.
"What?" Kath asked her quietly.
"That's my mom's name" she replied.
"Stop whispering" The beast shouted "You did this to me Alexis; you turned me into this blood-thirsty monster!" The beast lunged out with his claws towards them. Kath jumped back holding Sam in his arms.
"What do you want with her" Kath asked.
"I want her to tell me why she did this to me!" He shouted back.
"Please listen," Sam said "I'm not who you think I am, I'm not Alexis, that's my mothers name."
"Alexis is your mother?" He asked back "Well then who are you and why did you come here?" He took a few steps forward.
"I'm her daughter Samantha" She replied "We got caught in a storm and took shelter nearby, but I'm sure you know about that!" She took a step forward past Kath her eyes were hazel now.
"Yes, in fact I do! I brought you here, your mother did this to me and now you must pay her debt!" He cried and swung the large clawed paw towards her. She jumped back enough for it to miss but it landed with a great force and blew her back. Kath reacted quick and caught her before she hit the ground.
"Thanks" She said looking up at him.
"Hey, third times the charm" He said with a smile.
"Look dude" Sam said standing up, "My mother was a scientist, and yes she may have done this to you but she spent twelve years in her lab trying to find a way to reverse it."
"Really?" he asked his voice strangely soft.
"Yes, but unfortunately something happened and she died." She replied "she never told us why or what she was trying to find but now I guess we do!"
The monster took another step forward, he looked sad. There was a shuffling sound from the door, Sam and Kath looked to see six or seven military uniformed men armed with guns storm the room. The beast roared and the men opened fire upon him. The beast roared again as his blood spattered everywhere showering Kath and Sam. The bullets stopped and the mutated Orca fell to the ground with a thud not moving at all. Sam held tight to Kath and Kath helped her up. The men rushed towards them and helped them out of the building. The two didn't ask questions, they couldn't really think for the moment. The men took them to an awaiting boat as they boarded Stacy and Brit rushed up and hugged them.
"What happened?" Stacy asked looking them up and down.
"Long story" Kath said.
"Yeah" Sam agreed.
"Well you can tell us later." She replied with a smile.
"I figured as much." Kath said with a smile.
The military men all got on the boat and started it up. They drove off back into the harbor and let the teens off at the pier. They thanked them one last time, especially Kath and Sam. They all got into the jeep and decided never to speak of that trip ever again. They dropped Sam and Kath off at her house.
"Hey Sam you wouldn't mind if I showered off here would you, or your dad?" He asked as they approached the front door.
"Sure I don't mind." She replied and noticed a note on the door; she took it off and smiled as she read it. "Well I guess we know how the military found us. Good old private eye dad" She smiled and unlocked the door and let Kath in and locked it behind her like always.
"Let me guess, he saw the smoke?" He asked with a smile.
"Bingo and it also said he'll be away on a business trip for the next two weeks." She replied with a giggle.
"Alright, well show me where your dad's shower is." He said with a smile.
"Okay" She replied walking up the stairs and walking past her room and coming to a door that said "Do not enter". She laughed a bit and turned to Kath "Wait here I have to do something" She said opening the door carefully and closed it behind her. Kath waited outside for a short while until the door opened and Sam came out holding a video camera.
"What's that?" He asked.
"Same old dad" She replied "I just had to disable the tripwire and the net deployer." She had a bright smile. "The showers right through his room."
"Ah, okay." He said with a smile.
"Alright I'm gonna take one as well." She said heading towards the shower near her room.
He watched her walk down the hall and felt his pants tighten. He was glad she wasn't standing there anymore, she really was beautiful. He opened the door to her father's room and flicked the light on. He looked around and saw the bed had leopard spotted covers. "Ah, same old Mr. Lee" He said and slipped into the bathroom.
Sam walked down the hallway and she knew he was still watching her, she didn't mind, she felt different feelings for him, something she'd never felt before. She went into the bathroom and closed the door, she felt hot and took her clothes off and turned the water on and hopped in.
