Iditarod..Maverick style..
#1 of Stories:December 2012
Just a quick story. Not very good, but hey, its my 1st....id appreciate help on it!! thanx
Hiya...the names Maverick, I am a strong Siberian Husky/Timberwolf Mix. As you can imagine, i love the outdoors, and the Iditarod is one of my favorite activities ever! The story I am about to tell is about my first chance at the gold. I hope you will enjoy :)
Season: Spring
Location: Western Montana (rocky mtns)
The morning air is cold..deprived of oxygen up here on the slopes of the Rockys..The cold gusts of air followed by the bleak light given off by the sun tells me that its morning. Stiffly, I rose to my feet and padded out onto the blinding white slope that I was camped on, as i streached my sore and aching muscles, I thought to myself."Only 6 months total to prepare for the longest, and hardest race of my life, and only 2 months left... perfect, I love a challenge." I take in my last cold breath of air to dilute the sleep in my eyes and body, limber up with some streaches, and start my daily run.
Running was a realitively simple thing for me, being as i am of two of the toughest breeds out there for endurance, I could run for miles and miles without breathing heavy on the lower altitude tundra of Alaska. That being said, I chose the high, steep slopes of the Rockys to train on for the exact opposite reason. The training itself was pretty straight-forward: run forever, climb untill you cant climb anymore, eat what you can, sleep when you can, and dont die.
I enjoy the solitude of training, but after four long months out here, its easy to miss companionship, especially all the young beautiful females around my stomping gounds of Anchorage, but, at the same time, its kind of nice not having the constant buldge in my pants from looking too much. I digress, training must go on, and on, and on. Everything was perfectly boring for quite a while untill this morning on my run...
Wind rushing past my ears, heart throbbing in my head, pads freezing cold, and clothes soaked with sweat, describe how i felt this morning. I finally stop to take a quick break and regain my breath that had escaped me, when i hear a noise...more like a yelp then just a regular ol' noise... still winded, i rush to where i hear the yelping, pads crunching in the hard pack snow, leaping over fallen trees, (sometimes not so gracefully and with a dull thud) and using everything i had left in the tank to help someone in distress. Taking my shirt off as i proceed i barely notice the cold wind, no longer pericing through me as my fur is almost frozen like a suit of armor from the sweat.
I approach the area that i thought was the source of the distress calls, softly, gingerly placing my pads on the hard pack, trying to avoid any fallen branches or twigs that would signal my approach. I peek over a small snow mound to see what all the commotion was about, only to spot what my training ego was dreading......A beautiful vixen...
To be continued...
Vewiers choice, drop me a line if ya liked it, and let me know how YOU want it to continue...
Odins blessings to all...
