High Tail High Chapter 4: New Conflict
High Tail High Chapter Four: New Hope
Friendship. Some say it's forever, others my claim it to be the start of a new kind of love. It's that magical feeling of being protected that we all have with friends. But what does come of it is the possibility of a soulmate. Simply greeting someone you've never met before could start a generation of care, love and understanding. Years and years of times, both good and bad, and even the holy bond. It, like alot of other people / emotions in this world, is often mistreated.
The piercing sea blue and emerald green eyes shifted in the darkness of the room. Silence overtook the two furs as both were thinking the same thing. Each other. David tried, on multiple occasions, to just let go of the wierd feelings of Mark. But the past hours of getting to know each other gripped him and didn't let go. The red wolf was nice and even shy sometimes, but this was normal. It would take another hour before the ferret collapsed under the weight of his confusion.
The mid-morning rays illuminated radiantly through the cracks of the blinds. Light's soft touch ran over the deep red fur of the slumbering wolf. His gentle amber eyes cracked open and, very slowly, he got off the sofa. Mark's cautious gaze ran over to David, who was bundled up on the air matress. The soft face, light fur and gentle posture of serenity made a warm smile breach the wolf's muzzle.
"He seems too peaceful to wake right now..." Mark thought, heading back into the bathroom.
"I'll get him up after breakfast."
The blinds scidded to a hult next to David, allowing the sun's warmth to flood in through the windows. From what David could hear and smell, Mark was cooking up something in the kitchen. Then again, he did wake up in a fit of fright wondering 'where the fuck am I?'. David chuckled a little and ran his paw through his own blonde headfur before gathering his clothes for the day and going to take a quick shower.
"What if he knows?" Mark throught, staring down at the sizzling eggs. "Has to by now! The shyness, blushing..." He sighed and ran the spatula around the skillet. "What if he isn't-"
"Is that eggs?"
Mark whipped around, the big amber eyes wide in shock. David was standing in the doorway, a hand lightly grasping the wall to hold him up. Guilt seemed to seep into Mark, the feeling of doing something stupid seemed to follow soon after it.
"Yeah...they are. Do you like them?"
"David nodded a little bit, "Smells good, actually."
Mark smiled and gestured for him to sit down. The ferret did so and waited, most of his mind ranting at him. "What was I supposed to say to a guy who makes you breakfast? Duhh, I like your sausage?"
Another akward silence blew through the kitchen as Mark handed David his plate. It would be a while before both boys would be calmer.
Lunch seemed to sease the ension a little bit on both sides. David was less tense and on edge, Mark re-gained his cool composure and voice. A few minutes were devoted to the actual study David needed for chemistry, but nothing more. Both were waiting for the game versus Varsity State that evening. Epecially for Mark, who was on the High Tails team sporting good old lucky 22.
"Just hope Chad plugged his tampon in today." David grumbled, making the wolf erupt with laughter. It was good to finally dim down the shift of breakfast and emotions to the side for them. Especially David, who called his father about the schedule change.
"Yeah? Mike? Mark wants to drive me to the game this evening."
"....oh, oh really? Well, that's fine by me. Do you need me to pick you up afterword?"
He thought before saying, "I'll call you on my cell if I do, otherwise no."
The field roared witha waterfall of feet bombarding the ground. It was the last play of the day Varsity's ball. Both teams were at war as massive furs tackled their way through the defencive line. David winced seeing the ball pass over Chad's head and into the other team's paws. Friction sparked as the fur dashed in a mad line for the goal.
"The fourty! Thirdy! Twenty!"
His heart pounded, seeing a fur dash just feet away from the carrier.
"The ten! Five Tw-ooh!"
With a jetted leap, Mark pounced the other fur and crippled him to the ground, just feet away from the goal line. Chad wasn't too far off, the ball richocheted out of the fur's paws and now cradled in his paws. IN a minute, the High Tails managed to steal the ball and prevent the win. David howled with applause alongside the crowd as the teams hudled up in celebration.
Mark huddled in the back of the stands, his fur hanging around his forehead. Rain started to drizzle down onto the battle-scarred land. His jersy was stained with grass and sweat as the cold mist jetted from his muzzle. In his chest, a vibrant hum told him it was time. Rounding the corner nearby, Mark's amber eyes lid on David's. The ferret was smiling under his damp hoodie. Mark took a heavy step forward, heart and chest exploding with fear and hope that churned his soul.
"Hey! Good game..." David said in that cute way he did. "Why did you want to meet back here anyways...?"
"Because...I love you."
The rain dripped down across them in swift tides. Mark leaned forward and kissed David's soft, sweet lips. The blue-green eyes sparked with revolation and warmth before shutting on their own. A feeling of protection, love and peace poured into the two as they held one another in intertwined paws. As the rain pulled David's hoodie down and washed the two lovers faces, a single unoticeable tear slid down his cheek. The two souls touched, and basked in the warmth of the cleansing raindrops.
