Poem #70: Silence
#71 of Poetry
This poem is about hoping that the person you love doesn't die.
Silence
I listen to the pounding in his chest.
I press my ear up against his rib cage
And sigh to myself as the rhythmic beating
Makes my own heart race faster.
I memorize the beat
So that is beats inside my head
Every night before I go to bed.
It wakes me up every morning
And tells me to prepare for the day.
The day I hope to never see
Is the day I press my ear
Up to his chest
And hear silence.
So I wake up each day
With a smile on my face
For him, though I suppose
It is for me as well.
