Truth and Consequences 2

  1. Finish Her?

Matt opened his eyes and could not believe that he had withstood the blast wave and had remained upright, like the others or what Feih had done.

He had wanted to cheer when she had kicked Jason away from her, but her next moved had shocked him into silence.

She jumped to her feet, held her hands out in front of her and aimed at where Jason would land. He watched in utter fascination when, in the space of the time Jason had flown through the air and landed, her horns and claws glowed bright yellow and a bright ball of energy formed between her hands. She cried out "KRALJAKA!" and it launched from her hands on a direct course toward Jason.

He watched him just manage to block it with his outstretched hands which glowed blue and it looked like he had succeeded until he noticed that Jason had been pushed backward a short distance as the energy ball grew in size. Then it detonated.

He braced himself to withstand the full force of the expected shockwave but relaxed when an invisible shield halted it just short of him and everyone else. He looked for its source and spotted an armored female Red Cherrodon standing up on her hind legs where the spectators had been before they fled. He was surprised when he saw the same video recorder around her neck that had been carried by the female soldier. When she dropped the shield and noticed him looking at her she smiled. He felt as if he should recognize her, but he did not know why as he had yet to befriend any Cherrodons, male or female, since his arrival in the Mendall system. He shook the feeling off and looked for Feih and found that she had fallen onto her hands and knees; her breathing looked ragged and blood still flowed from the wound in her leg.

He attempted to go to her aid but stopped when his sister grabbed his left arm and pointed to the miniature mushroom cloud that was still rising into the air and shouted, "Look!"

At first all he could see was that the smoke at the point of the explosion had started to dissipate. Then a large dark form emerged from the smoke and walked toward Feih: Jason, almost naked from having most of his uniform blasted away by Feih's spectacular attack, did not look happy.

Matt's fear for Feih's safety rose when Jason stopped in front of her, reached down, grabbed her throat and lifted her up so that they were face to face.

"Are you finished," he growled, "or do we have to play this out to its logical conclusion?"

She closed her eyes and looked away from him. He seemed to sense her despair and sighed. "I'm not going to kill you, although I should. That blast of yours hurt."

She looked back at him and managed to choke out, "Thank you." Then she smiled.

Jason grinned back, his hood unfolded and both his horns and hood eyespots glowed in such a manner that Matt became frightened for her safety. "You're welcome, but you must surrender now. I don't want to make Matt unhappy."

The mention of his name was seemed to make up her mind. She gasped, "I yield," then coughed.

"Good, good." Jason released her so that she dropped to the ground and backed away six steps. He returned to his full size and his wings reappeared. He further amazed everyone when his uniform returned to normal as if nothing had happened to it. "Now," he growled, "I will reward you for your efforts, as ineffective as they were."

The blue glow from his horns grew so bright that it appeared as if twin suns were upon his head then fired two beams that struck Feih in her chest.

Matt screamed, "No!" and rushed toward Feih, but by the time he got to her side she had collapsed to the ground.

He roared in rage, turned toward Jason and readied himself to strike.

Jason started to say something, but appeared to change his mind and just smiled.

That was all that was needed to set Matt off; he launched himself forward, but his first and second claw first swipes missed their target by less than half a meter when something or someone grabbed his tails. He turned to attack the one responsible for stopping him and found to his shock that it was Feih.

Overjoyed and surprised by her sudden lack of injuries and quick recovery he turned to hug her, but she stopped him with one outstretched hand, turned to Jason and asked, "Why did restore me?"

Matt also returned his gaze to him and wondered, "What the hell was I just trying to do?"

"You're a good fighter and I respect you for it. I also didn't want you to die because of me." His eyes darted in the direction of Freerah then back to her and leaned in so close that their faces almost touched; "Where did you get such a power?"

She grinned then answered him, "It's called 'Kraljaka' (Final Attack). It's a rare ability among the Dorzeli-Ki and I am one of the few on this planet that can do it and survive. It can terminally drain the user so it's used only as a last resort. I guess it's a leftover from the attempt at develop your species." Matt managed to get by her defenses and hugged her which caused her smile once more.

"I see." Jason as he gave another look of suspicion back at his mate.

She tried to look innocent when she said, "I only suggested that she try it."

He half smiled at her then returned to look at Feih who was being joined by her other relatives.

"As the victor I declare that the agreement we made when I first met you will stand with only a few modifications." Feih started to get angry at the possibility that Jason was about to go back on some part of their original agreement because she had challenged him until he spoke. "You'll be allowed to have full control of the Pressat as long as it remains in and is used for the defense of this system." He held up his hand and snapped his fingers.

A crack of thunder was heard and the Pressat materialized above them. All were astounded that a ship of that size could come out of a hyperspace warp that close the planet's surface without destroying them.

"As you see this ship has a wide variety of capabilities, some of which we will explore on our way to the Kroon high council."

Feih's eyes widened astonishment at the fact that Jason was going to hold up his end of the bargain so soon.

He smiled at her reaction. "Yes, we're all going to argue for the termination of the exile of all of the Dorzeli on this planet." A loud roaring cheer came from the Desslat's. "We can leave whenever you're ready Feih."

Surprised she asked, "Right now?" Jason nodded his head yes. "Who can I bring?"

"Anyone you want, but I must insist that all the observers present be allowed to accompany us." When she agreed he turned and ordered all of his guests' back into the shuttle except for the female Cherrodon.

Feih turned to her brother and Sarah. They both smiled and nodded yes. She then placed her hand on his left cheek. "Well lover, are you ready for a little adventure?"

He mimicked her actions; "To the ends of the universe and beyond." In the background Jason laughed.

Later, when they had said their good-byes to her relatives and had walked back to Jason and Freerah, they found the female red Cherrodon up on her hind legs next to them. Matt still found it amazing that both of the largest breeds of that species could, because of their long necks, almost match him in height when they took that stance.

"Let me introduce Posk's mate," began Jason, "Lieutenant Christine Feller."

Matt was astonished and became nervous. This did not go unnoticed by Feih. "She and Posk started a similar relationship to the two of you after we landed on Mendall, but in their case it was Posk who wanted her changed. She agreed to it, so here she is."

Still on her hind legs, she walked up and greeted everyone warmly. When she got to him she smiled. "It's been a long time Matt."

"Yes, it has Chris." Still nervous he asked, "So how is Posk treating you?"

"He's been very good to me." She then turned to Feih. "You picked the right human Feih. You couldn't have found a more caring or considerate husband in the entire quadrant, except maybe for mine." She lick-kissed Matt and walked off to join Freerah.

Afraid to see Feih's reaction he turned to Jason and gave off a nervous laugh. "If you keep this up there'll be no humans left."

The grin on his face spoke volumes. "As you've already experienced I'm not one to stand in the way of true romance." He turned and looked at Christine. "It's a good thing she came along for the attack on the base because I don't know what Posk would have done that night when you two got everyone excited." Matt groaned at the reminder of that incident. "Now let me show you this ship's other technological wonder." He looked up and barked out, "Do it Yurex."

Matt felt static electricity envelope his body and watched the scene around him fade to white. When the color returned he found himself and those around him inside the main cargo hold of the ship.

Matt looked at Jason and exclaimed, "You've perfected it!"

Jason half smiled. "No, this teleportation technology is more advanced than the old system I used during the rebellion; this one can transport living tissue and inorganic material simultaneously without destroying the surrounding area." He waved his hand in the direction of the main doors, "Let's head for the bridge."

Before he could move off Feih caught Matt's attention when she grabbed hold of his arm. When he looked at her he was surprised to see that she was not angry with him.

"It's okay Matt. I won't hold your past relationships against you, but you'll have to give me more details about her later."

He happily agreed to her request. "No problem Feih."

When they arrived in the familiar surroundings of the Pressat's bridge they found Jason standing next to the captain's chair. The second he saw her he swung it around and said, "I believe this is yours."

Feih walked up to it, thanked him and sat down. When he walked away Matt noticed that he had a slight limp.

She looked at Matt, Daihas and Sarah and snapped, "Well, what are you waiting for? Let's get this ship out of here."

When they dashe to and took up the same positions they had when they had first launched it out of the Soriss held base she started with Matt's sister.

"Colonel Thorn, our weapons status?"

"All weapons and shields operational and on standby"

"Daihas, what are our drive and auxiliary systems status?"

"Fuel stores are full. Life support, food fabrication systems and all engines are at one hundred percent and the Alliance shuttle has been secured."

Feih looked at Matt's station and smiled, "Lieutenant Thorn, plot a course out of the system to Kralken Four."

Matt called up a map of the Mendall star system on the main holographic display then zoomed it out until it showed the section of the galaxy they were in. With another adjustment the location of Kroon and Soriss held worlds appeared with a line from their present position to the Kroon council world.

"Initial course set and laid in."

Feih turned and looked at Jason and Freerah.

Sbhe smiled and he nodded at her; "It's all yours until we get there. You can even pick out targets of opportunity along the way."

Feih smiled at this news then punched in several commands into her panel and the line curved into enemy held space with several Soriss controlled systems near their modified course.

She grinned then gave her brother the order; "Daihas, take us out of here."

He licked his lips in anticipation of taking the war to their enemies for first time in their lives and replied with, "With pleasure."

Unnoticed by the others except Feih, Matt started to worry about a repeat of his earlier performance with the Soriss soldier, possibly several times over. However, when he remembered the glorious taste of Soriss blood and the effect it had on him he unconsciously mimicked Daihas' actions.

Feih smiled and returned her attention to the main screen and watched as its color changed from the blue of the skies of Dessla to the deep black of outer space.
