Close Enough: Chapter 1 -Shane
This story is a romance about a love triangle centered around a male Husky named Ellie/Eli. The competition between a Fox named Shane, and a Wolf named Eric for the heart of the Husky. I'm hoping to make this a moderately long story with more then 10 chapters. There may possibly be some plot holes (sorry) because this story is totally unplanned and can go anyway I feel it should.
Anyways, this story contains homo/bi-sexuality and violence. No sex is planned to be in this! so if that's what you want, look elsewhere ;P. First time writing so please be gentle, I know this needs work. Please leave a comment about your thoughts. I'm planning to switch up the POVs Every chapter so sorry if it's slightly confusing.
Shanes POV
_ Intro to Shane _
I was only 12 when the accident happened. I remember it as if it were yesterday. My parents were driving home from a night out to celebrate their anniversary. I was at home with my baby sister and our baby sitter playing an extreme game of UNO when they called. The house phone started to ring and Cass, (our black panther babysitter who eventually becomes our full time nanny) answered the phone.
I was too busy trying to sneak a peek at my sisters cards to pay any attention back then. It wasn't that hard considering she was only about 2; she would throw her cards around and put them in her muzzle and naw on them. I saw Cass had began sobbing and my heart sank, even though back then I thought nothing bad could ever happen in the world. A drunk driving hyena ran a red light, right into my father and mother. They were killed on impact. When the paramedics arrived, they had to pry open the doors, to find a bloody Red fox couple. Their lifeless bodies pierced with glass and metal.
I didn't hear about that until I was about 16 though. My family was what you might call 'rich'. They left me and Sierra (my baby sister) everything they owned in the world. Cass is now 35 and lives at the house with us, and takes care of us as if we were her own. Throughout the years I discovered that I had more of a liking towards guys, and eventually became gay. Sierra was in independent studies for her kindergarden year and stayed at home most of the time. I adapted to my "gay lifestyle" and spend most of my time out and about enjoying myself.
Today was different though; today was exactly 6 years after the accident. I was still out and about, don't be fooled though. Tonight I wasn't out celebrating like usual, Tonight I'm out to mourn my parents and try to forget about the day that ruined my life.
_ Close Enough: Chapter 1- Shane _
Everything tonight has gone down in a haze. It's hard for me to think straight. The beat pulses through my fur. My ears and tail sway with the music that seems so far away from me. I wonder how anybody here knows I'm a fox. When I was 17 I started dying my hair different colors. I've gone through green, red, yellow, black, purple, and brown. Now my fur is currently a light baby blue with yellow highlights and a yellow stripe going down my chest and stomach with yellow around met bright green eyes. It seems like such a long time ago when Sierra freaked out the first time I dyed my hair.
A tug on my black jacket brings me out of my daze. Lifting my head up off the bar, I find myself staring into the deep yellow eyes of a German Sheppard.
"Hey, your cute. My names Blake." He said with a warming smile and took the seat next to me. He waved at the white mouse bartender. "Get me a drink with some style!" he yelled with joy, and the bartender started to work on the mystery drink. "So..." He continued, scooting closer towards me, "Wanna dance or something?" he said lifting his eyebrows like an idiot.
Normally he would fit my standards. Damn he was hot, he more than fit my standards! Even though he looked like a complete idiot. But today was not my day, even if a cute fur jumped in my lap and announced he wanted me, I am not in the mood.
"My names Shane. I don't feel very well today, sorry" I said putting my head back onto the bar. After a few seconds he put a hand on my shoulder.
"I'm sorry, how bout a number?" He asked
"I suppose" I grumbled and quickly wrote down my number. Handing it to him, I got another heavenly glance at his deep yellow eyes. 'Why did it have to be today...' I asked myself.
"Thaaank you!" he said cheerfully and literally skipped away.
A small male Corgi walked up to me with a platter of drinks like a waitress. I grabbed the biggest drink and raised it above my hair. "Here's to you. Mom. Dad..." I started chugging the shit out of the giant glass. I can see my pitiful reflection inside the golden liquid. Every year ends up like this... But the nectar makes me feel slightly better. I hope Sierra grows up to not remember how many nights she has spent crying about them...
A few hours later, I sway side to side in my seat. People came and went, some chit chatted and danced beside me. One in particular. He was a medium sized wolf with brown fur that seemed to glow gold at the tips. It may have been the booze, but he seemed to pay a little too much attention to me drinking alone at the bar. His blue eyes scanning me. After a long painful, and diffidently creepy amount of time, he took a seat next to me.
His breathing seemed aggressive. "so... I haven't seen you around before. I think I would have noticed another whore of a fox.". He said with the blankest poker face I've ever seen in my life. It kind of scared me.
I snorted. "I don't come here often.". I tried to ignore the unimaginably strong wave of assholery coming off him.
He gave me a death glare "Name?"
"Appearantly its whore." I replied glaring back
"Eric." he announced ignoring my comment. He spoke slowly, making sure to show his massive jaws for as long as he could.
I got up and started walking away. I've had enough of a night without this asshole wolf being all up my ass, in the bad way I may add... "Wait!" I heard behind me. I sighed deeply and turned around to a fist 1 inch from my face. Stars flashed and all I could see was the bright neon lights flowing on the ceiling and a seriously pissed off wolf standing over me. His eyes stabbing me.
I was so shocked I didn't know how I could react. He quickly jabbed me in the side with his big black boots. A wave of pain surged through my body and I screamed. My reflexes kicked in and I jumped on all fours and swiped at his legs. A giant cut went through his pants but didn't pierce skin. He lifted his boot again and kicked my face. I grabbed his leg and pulled on it, and he fell to the floor with a howl. This gave me the opportunity to use my claws to scratch his face and succeeded in leaving a huge scare across his muzzle.
He stayed there howling on the floor and my first thought was to stay there and beat him senseless in my rage, but I decided against it and got the hell out of there. I ran to the giant metal double door with the giant exit sign above it, one of the few things I noticed in my haze. I opened it and turned back to see how the asshole was doing. He was still on the floor clenching his nose, but his intimidating blue eyes were penetrating me. I made a cute face and stuck out my tounge in immature victory, then proceeded to hop out the door to the parking lot where my silver mustang lay.
As I hopped out the door I ran straight into I huge body, and fall to the floor again. For some reason I thought it would be the asshole wolf suddenly possessing teleporting powers and yelped in fear. I slowly looked up and saw the most beautiful sight I have ever seen in my entire existence. It was a tall, built husky. His eyes showed he was worried, but his eyes... Oh god his eyes... It was a bright red that became yellow the closer it got to his irises. He had black and white fur as normal huskys do, but he had fantastic red highlights to his fur that kept me in awe.
I heard the door open behind me to see the asshole wolf growling in fury with blood running down his face. I jump up blushing. "Im sorry!" I said to the husky and sprinted away to my car. I was fast, really fast. The wolf was close, but I was able to safely reach my car and lock the door. The husky grabbed the wolf and seemed to scorn him, I guess they knew each other. I was safe for now.
My phone buzzed. Despise my apparent 'Richness', I tend to prefer my old Razor flip phone over those new high tech fancy pansy smart phones. Coolly flipping it open, I gasped to see it was 2:35 am....CRAP.... I slapped my head for a face palm. Feeling a pinch of pain, I grimaced at my tender and bruised head. Cass texted me 3 hours ago wondering where I was... There is hell to pay when I get home. I started up my car and let our a deep sigh. I'm just glad tonight was over, now I can move on with my life. I turn the radio on, and some snow patrol song was playing quietly. Quickly, I pulled out of the club parking lot and headed towards Thermal Grove, the upper-class neighborhood I live in.
I guess I should probably tell you a little bit more about myself. My name is Shane. I'm a Red fox with dyed hair that stands at 5, 8'. I have bright green eyes and inherited a very nice amount of money from my deceased parents. The thing I love most in the world is my little sister Sierra. I'm a generally happy person besides tonight. I love to have fun and make people happy, unless their huge butt-holes. People often think I'm very feminine because of my dyed hair, but I like to think of myself as only slightly feminine.
I am the biggest anime nerd you would ever meet, and I love video games! I have a best friend named Toby. Me and him met each other in a freak swimming pool accident.... Don't ask... We all live in Elimix City. Me and him may be a couple of clowns when together. I've never had any problems with anybody except the snow leopard jocks... Very homophobic I guess...?
I pull up to my house so slowly as to not wake them up... Not wake Cass up... I sneak inside the house with my tail between my legs, fearing for my life. It was pitch black, but I knew this enormous house like the back of my hand. I glide up the stairs silently and nearly fist-bumped myself in victory of not making any noise. Then suddenly a large pair of slanted yellow eyes glowed and glared at me in the darkness. I was about to scream but a hand grabbed my mouth. A light switch was activated and I saw a black panther standing before me with murder in her eyes. "Where have you been?! I was worried sick!!" she hissed at me in a whisper. I mumbled under the hand and she let go.
I gasped for breath. "sorry, had a rough night... You scared the shit out of me..." I whispered.
She grimaced and growled. "I can smell the intoxication on your breath... Get to bed NOW!" she hissed through barred teeth. I knew she was only grumpy cause she was tired, she usually is the definition of "cool cat". She still scared me so badly right now though.
"Ok..Ok" I say defensively and tip toe backwards towards my room.
She sighed "one more thing..." She said quietly. I paused in my footsteps. She took a deep breath and looked at me with wonder. "You know Sierras first day to school is tomorrow?" she asked. I face palmed, again, hurting myself. I totally forgot I promised to walk with her to school extremely early in the morning. Cass's face turned to worry. "What happened to your head?" she wondered.
I rubbed my head lightly "Oh this?... Its kind of a long story... I'll tell you tomorrow.." I said with pain in my voice.
She nodded slowly and turned around to walk back to her room. "You better wake up early tomorrow..." She mumbled. I nodded and walked to my room to flop onto my bed. I had to get a little bit of sleep before I have to escort Sierra to her first day of school. My eyes closed, and my pain drifted away as I fell into slumber.
The Next Morning.
Last night was possibly one of the most painful beatings I've gotten in a while. My alarm rang with the most painful screech I have ever heard and rolled off my bed. Groaning loudly i punch my snooze button and clench my head to try to ease my giant hangover, but all I accomplished was pushing on my bruise.
"aahhhggg!" I scream and fall to the floor. I have a giant patch of fur that is dark and distorted. I ruffle it slightly to see if it can be fixed to look normal. "hmmm" i mumble. all I'm doing is making me have a bigger headache.
Staring at the ceiling, I breathed heavily and stroke my tail trying to calm myself down. My mind slowly drifted to that guy I saw yesterday. He was some piece of work... I can still see his beautiful eyes, concerning, charming, heart warming.... I started to drift off into a sweet sweet day dream... Then the annoying as hell alarm clock started to ring again. "Damn..". I cursed repetitively to myself as I crawl to my alarm clock and violently unplug it.
I decided it was time to put on some clothes, don't wanna be the reason Selena is late on her first day. After little debate i pulled on some blue jeans and a black tank top. I inspected my mirror to see what the damages were from last night. it honestly didn't look that bad, just a little messy, with a giant bruise on my for-head.
I hurriedly brushed my teeth and ran a comb through my tail... I don't care if my hair looks like shit, but my tail will NOT look bad. Its my lure for the cuites! I smirk to myself at that thought. After a couple minutes of fumbling around I get my black star earring into my right ear. "There we go!"
Slugging down the staircase to the kitchen, I hear some sort of dragging noise on the hard wood floor. I poke my head around the corner to make sure I was safe, i get nervous to strange sounds. A short red fox was dragging a chair that was about the size of her across the kitchen. She had a look of extreme concentration on her face and was close to panting. She has a cute chubby face that almost didn't match her body, but that just made her cuter. Her giant green eyes were fixed on the ground, making sure she didn't run over her feet. She pushed the chair against the counter and hopped onto it slowly. Even with the extra support, she could barley reach the bowls that she was trying to get.
A huge grin appeared on her face as she safely obtained the bowl. then, she slowly looked to the other side of the room to the top of the fridge, where the cereal was. She hopped off her chair and set the bowl on the table, her cute little paws making a pounding noise with each skip in her step.
With irritation on her face she went to go back to drag her chair all the way to the fridge. I couldn't contain myself and started laughing hysterically. She jumped with alarm and her white cheeks became a light pink.
"Don't laugh at me!" she said as she stomped the floor. Arms crossed. I laughed again and skipped up to her to pat her on the head.
"Ohhh Sierra!" I said with taunt in my voice. "Don't you worry! One day you might be tall enough to reach the door knob!" I exclaimed giggling and nearly falling to the floor. Sierras face turned red now a look of embarrassment crossed her face. Slowly, Her ears lowered and she put on the saddest pout face she could make. Her eyes bulged and teared up.
"I'm gonna be really tall one day!" she said crossing her arms and staring at the floor.
I chuckled, "Yeah, you probably are going to be taller then me!" I said truthfully as I grabbed the cereal from the top of the fridge. Sierras face lit up as I poured a mound of fruity cereal into her bowl. Her muzzle soon became an attachment to her spoon that had a huge pile of cereal on it. I chucked and went into the living room to watch a little bit of T.V while I waited.
I heard a door open from upstairs and saw a black figure out of the corner of my eye. When I looked straight on, I saw it was Cass, snailing down the stairs slowly, yawning and rubbing her eyes. "Morning Cass!" I greeted happily. I got no reply and chuckled. Cass was literally dead until she got her coffee. Sierra followed Cass around the kitchen and handed Cass a fresh cup. Cass slowly took a sip and Sierra had an enthusiastic grin on her face as she watched.
After a couple more sips Cass grinned. "POW!" Cass yelled and her eyes opened wide. Sierra jumped and yelped in shock. Cass looked at Sierra with amusement, Sending loud giggles from Sierra through the house. She clapped and jumped up and down with joy... She did this EVERY morning and still finds amusement from it.
I smirked and changed the channel. Sierra finished her cereal and went upstairs to get ready. After a tedious amount of time looking for a decent show, and failing... I checked my flip phone for the time. "Whoa.. 7:34 already'" I sighed and got to my feet, me head still pounding, i have a feeling its not going to feel better anytime soon. "Sierra? You ready yet?" I yelled through the house.
There was no reply but a faint pounding of sneakers hitting the floor quickly approaching the stairs. I haw her little ears and eyes pop over the side of the stairs. She looked as if she committed a crime. "I.. Lost my jacket." she said lowering her ears and ducking behind the stairs sadly.
I face-palmed, then yelped from the pain, which made Sierra jump about ten feet. After noticing her fear and sadness I started weakly laughing, remembering where that dork left her jacket. I walked about 5 feet towards the door to our coat rack and pulled out a small navy blue jacket.
Sierra looked bashful now. "OH!" she said clicking into her happy mode and skipping toward me. She viciously snatched the jacket out of my paws and ran to the door. Throwing the door open, she looked back at me and gestured me forward "Come on Shane! Don't make us late!" she said between giggles.
I snorted "You little brat!" i said jokingly and grabbed her. She screamed and laughed as i lifter her above my head and onto my shoulders. "ON WE GO!" I said getting ready to run out the door.
A small but strong paw grasped my shoulder and i looked behind me to see Cass standing there with her coffee and her morning newspaper 'Elimix Times'. "Yeah Cass? What's up?" i said curiously.
She took another sip of her coffee and placed it down on a nearby table. " I just wanted to let you two know to be very careful." She then paused as if she was trying to choose her words carefully. "I don't want anything happening to you..." She said with a worried look on her face
I glanced at Sierra and saw her worried face. "Don't worry Cass, we will be EXTRA SUPER CAREFUL!" I said with my famous grin. Cass seemed a little bit reassured and nodded. I started bouncing up and down now focusing on Sierra. She started laughing again and I ran out the door into the beautiful front lawn. The trees were covered in beautiful trees that were covered in a rainbow of autumn colors that flew and spread across the entire yard like a burning wild fire. The mountains clearly visible and an ocean breeze in the air. Today was a good day to be alive.
We ran through the entire yard and out out giant metal gates and onto the streets. After about a block i got tired and set Sierra back onto the ground and grasped her paw. she was still giggling from the thrill she just had. after she regained her senses she looked at me with a worried grin. "Shane?" she asked. i looked at her questionably. "I-... Am a little bit worried about my first day of school....What if people don't like me?" She asked.
This question took me aback. "Sierra.. School is easy once you learn to take it easy. You are a cute girl and I'm sure you will make so many friends, you wont be able to keep track of them." I said grasping her little paw tighter. Her face glowed with happiness. I grinned "And even, by some insane reason, that you don't. I will always be your friend. " I said putting on my warm smile and giggling nervously.
She chuckled and nudged my leg. "Why would I want a dummy like you to be my friend" she said teasingly. After a few seconds of laughs and awkward sibling momentness. Sierra jumped up happily. "Look! My school!" She said barley keeping herself from floating away with happiness. I had to hold onto her paw hard so she wouldn't go running at a full sprint towards the school.
"Hold up, you need to wait for the crossing guard before you cross..." I said sternly.
Sierra sighed. "Buzz kill..." she mumbled. I ruffled her hair and we waited for the crossing guard. when the crossing guard gestured for her to go I gave her a huge bear hug and let her frolic to the crossing guard. She turned around to wave at me and the crossing guard looked away and put down his sign. I put up a paw to wave back at her and give her a warm smile.
A black corvette turned the corner and the crossing guard was standing on the sidewalk starting to eat his breakfast bagel. I saw a flash of black and heard screeching of brakes, screams, engine roars. honks. then sirens. I ran into the middle of the street. "NO!!!!" I screamed with tears in my eyes . The paramedic had to pull me away so they can tend to her. I sat there cross legged on the street as the paramedic rapidly drove away.
Next thing I was in the hospital. Holding onto my legs in fetal position in the waiting room, pounding my head onto my knees regardless of the pain in my bruise. Tears seemed to take a permanent place on my face. I cant lose Sierra. I don't know what I would do if I lost her... She is my only priority and I am stupid to have not walked her across the street myself. I would have pushed her out of the way. I would have save her. I-
"Shane." a young mouse nurse called my name. I glared up with tears running down my face. "The doctor would like to see you. Shes okay".
A surge of happiness ran through my body, and I gained little hope I had left. Cass joined me later and gave me some snacks, she knew I would be basically sleeping here until I knew she was completely safe. She looked unbelievably worried and at the same time, relieved.
Many hours later I wake up from a long nap I had on the floor of the waiting room. My head seemed to hurt more then it did this morning, if that was even possible. I think to myself that I should probably get this thing checked out, I'm already at a hospital anyways....
I drag myself to the front desk clutching my head. A middle aged black rat woman greeted me with a crooked toothy smile. "Hello Mr. Cadwell." she said "Need anything?". I pointed sheepishly at my inflated bruised head. She nodded "Down the hall, to the right.". I tried to casually walk through all the doctors and nurses clamoring about death and surgery and injuries. Very confusing.
I walk into a tiny doctor room that looks like it would be for children. Thanks rat... I think to my myself and moan lightly at my major headache. I lay down lightly on the crumbly paper covered couch. If it should be called a couch... Most, uncomfortable, thing, EVER! After a few minutes I heard the door open quietly and tap shut. I didn't even bother to look up, I am half dead.
A deep voice pierces through my ears, unexpected, usually these nurses are.... well, chicks. "Hello, Mr. Cadwell. Your doctor can't be with you today, so I am here to tend to your issue. What would be the problem today sir?". Out of curiosity I looked up. Oh my god. It was that husky from outside the club. "What...." I mumble and nearly pass out. His eyes again piercing me as if he has known me for the longest time.
