Crossing of a Legend
The Crossing of a Legend
By: Eintar Kasai
Many years after a time Nokona couldn't remember, she sat watching the stars. As she watched, she tried to recall what she had missed before she had her daughter. Her daughter, Kynna Diaka, was a very strong willed tigress, who acted very much like she did while she was young. One thing puzzled Nokona though... Who was Kynna's father, and why didn't she remember him or anything else from the time? As a star shot across the heavens, she sighed... wishing she had an answer. As she rose and returned into her pavillian, a glint of light was seen by none as it shot across the sky, coming closer to her palace.
As Nokona entered her pavillian, Kynna appeared behind her. "Hello mother, how are you this evening?"
"I was thinking of my past again... I still can't remember much from before you were born. I feel so close to my memories though..." As Kynna sympathized with her mother, a being halted at a window above her, and watched them. When Kynna looked up to search for a constellation she favored, she noticed him. As she was about to warn her mother, the being looked straight into her eyes, and smiled. Trying to get a better glimpse of her watcher, Kynna blinked.. only to find that he had gone.
"Mother, have you ever allowed a male tiger to sneak around the palace without them being noticed?" As her mother prepared to answer, a guard entered and relayed a message saying there was someone waiting to meet with her in the throne room. While on their way to the throne room, Nokona told her that she vaguely remembered someone, but couldn't be sure. As they arrived in the throne room, Kynna was shocked to see the being from the window waiting. As she stared at him, he politely smiled to her, and awaited Nokona's approach.
"Greetings m'lady, I am here to gather information on the protection of your kingdom. I will be testing your guards to prove them capable to protect you and your people." Considering what to say in reply, Nokona thought very hard. While her mother was thinking, Kynna couldn't help but ask a question to the strange being.
"Excuse me sir, but who are you, and why were you at our window earlier?" Smiling innocently, as he knew that he had been caught, he replied fairly.
"I was at your window to check upon your mother. I smiled at you, however, as it was the first I had seen you. As for names... please call me Eintar." As he was saying this to Kynna, Nokona suddenly fainted. Carrying her to her pavillian, Eintar and Kynna spoke little, but understood each other to a point.
Laying Nokona onto her bed, Eintar pulled a chair from the wall for Kynna to sit beside her mother. As Kynna sat beside her, she wondered what had fully happened. "I'm sorry about my mother, she was tired earlier when you looked through the window."
"It's fine," Eintar said as he smiled, "it gives me a chance to ask you a few questions without your mother influencing your answers." As Kynna turned to face him, Eintar sat upon the foot of Nokona's bed. "I'll start with a chain of a few easy questions, as I can wait for the harder ones.
"Very well, I shall answer them as best I can."
"For starters then, what do you know of your mother's life before you were born?"
"My mother was a young princess, that worried about her brother while he was away at war."
"Alright, what do you know of your uncle's last dinner party?"
"His last party was a few months before my birth, at which a few nobles were startled to see a sword thrown from a window next to my mother."
"Very well, last question.. what do you know of your father?"
Kynna thought vary hard on this last answer, but remained serene as she answered. "I do not know much of my father... The first thing my mother even remembers after she lost her memories, was a bright gleam that went across the horizon, but focused on a being that sped away."
After she answered, Kynna began to wonder about her father, and why she was asked what she knew about him. "You know the basics of your family, but you still wonder about your father... Since you have no knowledge of him, would you like to know who, and what, he is?" Eintar was very calm as he asked this, but Kynna believed she saw more.
"I would like to know more about him, but you seem disturbed about something.. What are you worried about?" Eintar sighed slightly, causing Nokona to stirr. As they moved to help her, EIntar whispered that he would tell her more later if he could. Watching Nokona open her eyes, Eintar smiled and helped her to sit up.
"Wha... what happened?" As Nokona asked this, she looked around, finally resting her sight on Eintar. "YOU!!" she screamed, "why did you leave me all those years ago?!?" As kynna pondered what her mother meant, she saw Eintar flinch slightly.
"I am sorry that I left you Nokona... but it was necessary that I left so you wouldn't abandon your kingdom." As Kynna continued to ponder, all she could do was ask a question of her mother.
"Mother, how do you know him? Who is he?"
Solemnly, Nokona replied slowly to her. "Kynna... this is Eintar Kasai. He is a guardian that wanders the realms, protecting any kingdom in need. He came to this kingdom first, many centuries ago to protect our ancestor, Sahida. Just before you were born, he returned and released us from the hold of several groups of bandits that raided our caravans. Before leaving, he caused us all to forget who he was, and what he had done. Kynna.... meet your father..." As Kynna stared blankly at her mother, she sat down to think. All of what her mother said made strange sense, except for the fact that they forgot him.
"How is it he made you forget him? I would think that atleast you would remember the fact that you bore me for him." Before Nokona could reply, and answer her daughter's question, Eintar spoke softly to her.
"It's easier to show her than to tell her Nokona... allow me to explain the reason she forgot me Kynna." As he spoke, a slight glow emanated from underneath his robes. As the glow faded, Eintar removed his robe top and unfolded a pair of magnificent wings with golden feathers. "Kynna, I am a seraphim. I control all of the elements you know, can read and control thoughts or memories, and I protect those I care about while they age around me. While I am to be here longer than you or any other being, I am afraid that you have inherited a trait I wouldn't wish upon any. As I did not make your mother, nor any one else from that visit immortal, it passed onto you through my essence, which sped up your birth and development. I am sorry that this is to be.. but welcome to an immortal life my child..."
