Chapter 8: Dessert Before Dinner
I hear the shower running from Kouji and Shuichi's room. I call them, but there is no answer. Someone is having a little fun before dinner. I think to myself. I decide to make something a little eastern today and settle on Japanese food; Chirashi sushi, with yakitori chicken, and edamame. I boil the soy beans for the edamame and mix the yakitori dressing for the chicken, which will later be skewered and put in the oven. I always make from scratch, it tastes better that way. As I pour the rice into the cooker, I hear my door open down the hall. Ku is finally up, maybe I can get him to help with dinner. "Hey, Ku. Could you get the red peppers from the fridge?" "Sure," I hear the fridge open and close and see the peppers appear on the cutting board next to me. "Perhaps I could help with something else, too?" I feel Ku reach around me and start trying to undo my belt. "What have I said about the kitchen? Besides, we just had some fun a little while ago." "Aww, but that didn't go as far as I was hoping." "It went far enough, now stop teasing me before I put up a barrier." "Oh, but that was just an appetizer." "For you maybe, I had dessert." I lick my lips, "It was sweet and salty at the same time, and I did share." "Fine, can I at least help with dinner?" His hands move away from my belt buckle, having no luck in getting it undone. "Sure, cut the chicken and the vegetables. Remember to wash your paws before and after touching the chicken and use different cutting boards. Wash the knife too." "I know, or the food can get infected with bacteria, right?" "Salmonella, to be exact." "Right, and that's no fun." We get to work on preparing dinner. We mostly sing along to Owl City, but we also plan our "dinner date" while we're at it. As we start to set the table, I hear the shower stop. Took them long enough, the water bill will be through the roof. "Sounds like they finally finished. Ku, do you mind knocking on their door and telling them dinner is ready?" "Sure, hopefully Kouji won't run into me again." I laugh at that remembering the surprised look on his face while he was sitting on the floor. "We can only hope." I mentally add, although your surprised face is pretty cute. I watch his tail sway back and forth as he walks down the hall to the other bedroom door, his joy at spending a night alone with me quite clear in the way he moves. I hear him knock and ask if they will, and I quote, "Grace us with their presence at tonight's meal." I laughed out loud at that one and was glad I was already sitting or I just might have fallen over. I hear a muffled reply, which I assume was a "just a minute", as Ku walks back over only just containing his excitement as we would be leaving shortly after dinner. "They said to give them a minute." My assumption was correct. "They probably needed to find their pants, or at least a bath robe." "After how long that shower was, I think they need a little rest. So, how are we going to get out of here for our 'dinner date'?" "We'll drive to Uta's restaurant and leave the car there and I'll teleport us home." "Sounds like a plan." We hear a door open down the hall. "Sounds like they found something to wear too." I wink at Ku, hoping the he understands to keep our plans secret from Shuichi and Kouji. "Something smells good." Shuichi was talking to no one in particular, but I decide to respond anyway. "Well, I didn't want to be out shone by my sister, so I made my specialty. Yakitori chicken, chirashi sushi, edamame, and there are japanese oranges chilling in the fridge. They're just normal oranges peeled and are currently soaking in plum wine, they're rather plain, but the taste makes up for it." "I've no doubt that it'll be delicious." With that final comment, Kouji and Shuichi started eating, effectively killing any conversation until dessert came along. "Kuro needs to go for walk, but I don't want to right now." I didn't miss the secret glance Kouji gave Shuichi, but I decided not to say anything. "Well, Ku, we have a bit of time before we leave. What do you think about taking Kuro for a walk?" "I don't particularly want to, but okay." "Thanks Kuroi, you know where the leash is." We finish dessert and I put the plates and utensils in the dishwasher. I see Shuichi head to the living room and sit on the couch. He's only wearing a bathrobe and I wonder how long he plans to stay like that. Kouji is still sitting at the table and Ku is heading towards the door with Kuro close behind. I head to my room. "I'll be in here if either of you need me." "Okay." Came a response from the living room. "Sure." Kouji's response came just before I hear a chair scrape against the floor as he stands and, I assume, walks over to Shuichi. I silently enter my room and close the door. I notice that I smell like I've been cooking and head into the shower. I take my time and finish a little while later. Finding that I've got plenty of time to spare, I go to read one of my new books and realize that I don't remember where I put the bag. I think that maybe Shuichi saw where I put them and put my hand on the door handle to go ask him.
