The next few months were hectic for both Kitty and James. First, after James had finished the code, his Command Chief Master Sergeant had decided to promote him to a First Sergeant giving him more money to support his soon to be larger family, but also strung him up with more duties and people to over watch. Then as Kitty had entered her second trimester of her pregnancy, the doctor ecstatically told them that they were to have triplets, two boys and a girl. And between all that they had to buy cribs, strollers, swings, and the like for their pups that would soon be here. Then on Kitty's seventh month of pregnancy, it was decided to hold the baby shower at her dad's place.

Everyone was there except for James's family which was to be expected seeing how they lived on the opposite side of America. All of Kitty's friends and family sat around, and the ones who had kids were giving her advice and telling her what to expect. The few children were there, were either playing or feeling for the pups' kicks in the expecting mother's belly. James sat in the chair on the other side of the room, a smile on his face as he watched Kitty laugh. Surrounding her on the floor were boxes, ranging from as small as the ring box James held in his pocket to one big enough the wolf could climb inside. Next to was his mate's father who was nursing a beer and sitting back with his eyes half closed, though James could tell he was well aware.

"Sir?" James said to the older feline.

"I told you, James," he replied, "you don't have to call me 'sir'. Richard or Rick will do just fine."

"Yes, sir . . . I mean, Rick."

"Looks beautiful, doesn't she." Rick said after few minutes of silence. James could only nod as he watched her. "You take care of her and those kittens, you hear? And if you want my advice: work to live, don't live to work. Spend every waking moment you can with her and your children."

"I'll do my best."

"All I ask."

"Can I talk to you in private real quick?"

"I doubt the girls will hear us over here."

"I know, but there's something I need to show you."

The feline nodded in understanding, already guessing what James had to tell him. The older male shut the door behind him in the guest room he and Kitty would be sharing tonight, and turned to the wolf. "So you're finally going to ask her, I take i?."

James opened his mouth in reply, but was shocked that Kitty's father already had guessed it. "I . . . uh, yes, but how did you know?"

"I'm not dumb, James," he chuckled. "And of course the answer is yes, you have my consent. I see the way she looks at you and the way you look at her. You love her and she loves you and I know once the kittens are born, that will only strengthen it." He pointed a clawed finger at the bulge in James's breast pocket. "May I see it?"

"Sure," James said, fumbling to get the small box out of his pocket. Rick opened the box and stared at the tiny ring, barely large enough to fit on the wolf's pinky but perfect to fit on her ring finger. On it were three small diamonds, nothing so large and flashy, but simple and exquisite. Embroidered into the fabric of the top part of the box were the words, "Will you marry me. James"

The feline nodded and handed the box back to James. "So when are you going to ask her."

"Well," James could feel the blood rush to his face and was sure the inside of ears were red, "tonight, during the baby shower after she opens all the gifts, I will hand this to her."

"Well, son," he said, giving James a pat on the back, "best of luck to you, both of you."
