The long awaited chapter 6. Sorry guys, this chapter isn't much of a good read. At all really. I was planning to do more, but a ways in I decided I'd just use this chapter to get myself back into the habit of actually writing. I couldn't even bring myself to be a bit more detailed.

However, you might catch the beginning of something important. And just so you know, everything is relevant.

Streaks of light seeped through the folded blinds, striking the dorm floor and tainting the blue carpet an odd gray. Each bright tendril slowly crept across the barren field, climbing up the wooden face of the desk, turning each simple text book and pencil into strange porcelain works, glistening brightly in the shine of the sudden shower as the light continued to crawl across the room. Lavender eyes peered out from the shadows of the room transfixed on the bizarre phenomena. The gruff, gurgled below a transport shuttle rose could be heard not too far beyond the chilled screen of glass, crescendoing quickly as the bright streaks began to scurry faster across the wooden furniture until finally they fled, just as the booming engine of the flying bus lightly shook the room as it passed over.

Raptor turned in his still made bed, his eyes plastered now lifeless blinds, half expecting the motionless shingles to pull back and bathe his room in a blinding bath once again. Instead, the bird would be left with darkness. Perfectly still darkness. The only the disturbance in the whole dorm was the soft rise and fall of his chest, the only sounds his occasional sigh. The dorm felt so empty. There was a deep since of longing in his gizzard. Why?

With another soft sigh, the raven let his eyes slide shut, his arm finding comfort in the cool underside of his pillows. His mind found no such solace. With each attempt to drift off peacefully, he found it harder to even keep his eyes shut. Every time the distraught avian turned in his bed, he could feel himself further from the sleep he so desperately craved to have. Frustration was settling and Raptor knew he'd never get anywhere feeling like this.

The black bird threw his legs over the edge of his mattress, moaning into the wrinkled sheets before pushing himself upright and onto the floor, his talons digging into the blue fibers of his carpet to keep his tired form upright. Water. Maybe that would sooth his troubled mind. At least, that was what the feathered teen hoped. Stumbling drunkenly from his room, the exhausted bird managed to make his way to the dorm's small kitchen, glancing across the darkness of the living room towards his roommate's silent room. Shi was probably sleeping peacefully under her warm sheet, unlike him.

Raptor stifled a laugh. "Lucky," he thought a loud as he moved behind the stand alone counter. Holding up his hand, the bird wrapped his little finger around the heavy door of the refrigerator and tugged it open; his eye's immediately blinded by the light that poured out from the box. The teen averted his eyes, blindly swinging his hand around the mostly empty space for the familiar ribbed body of a water bottle. It took a little searching, but the bird found his victory soon enough. His fingers graced the side of something cold, wet, and bumpy. Without even looking to check if he was right, he pulled the drink to his chest, the chilled edge of the bottle sending shivers up his spine upon contact. "Ooo-hoo-hoo," he stuttered, twisting off the cap and pouring the whole thing down his guzzle.

At the same time, the door slowly swung open, the light of the hallway setting a familiar silhouette against the floor. Raptor stood frozen, glancing down at the shadow of enigma at his dorm, the bottle now empty bottle hovering above his beak, and felt his heart stop as it moved forward. "They're coming inside? Shit! I'm naked! I'm so dead!" were the thoughts running through his mind.

To his surprise though, the stranger entering was no stranger at all. Shay'D's eyes met his, and the two stood at opposite ends of the kitchen like statues. Motionless. Unmoving. When Raptor's arm finally gave in and he was forced to lower it, he opened his beak to ask the bat where shi had been at that hour of the night. Students were expected to stay in their dorms after lights out until morning call, and, as far as the bird knew, Shay'D didn't have any nightly duties or friends who shi would sneak off to see. Of course, he could be wrong. However, in the time it took him to form the first syllable of his question, the purple haired bat had disappeared into her room, the sound of her locking clicking behind her. How suspicious. Raptor's curiosity had been piqued; however, he wouldn't push the subject tonight.

Wordlessly, he returned to his room, the empty bottle still gripped in between his feathered digits. "Well that was awkward," he told himself tossing the bottle aside, letting it roll beneath his desk. Raptor flopped into his bed, quickly finding himself a comfortable position, the empty sensation that had kept him awake now gone. Not even a minute ticked away before his heavy lids slid closed and he drifted out of consciousness where he remained, totally oblivious to the soft sobs coming from the room across the dorm from his.
