Guardian Wars: The Game (3)
#3 of Guardian Wars
I know I haven't posted any chapters to this in a while, but so far this is chapter 3. I'll try and not neglect this.
And just a heads up, I might not continue it, considering people have commented before that it's compared to the anime "Fait/Stay Night" ... Well I can assure you it won't be. Just cut me some slack a little bit here.
"Do you have any idea what kind of attraction you've pulled--"
Benny wasn't happy, Cedrick could tell by the way his nostrils flared and his eyes were literally diamond slits. The Feline wasn't wearing a shirt, but the tight blue jeans and golden chain necklace around his neck was all he usually cared for. The pants were mandatory--but Cedrick was sure if he had it his way he would just go commando if he didn't know the Fox--and the golden necklace around his neck was just for style in his eyes. His name wasn't actually Benny, it was really Benjamin Fastdown, but to Cedrick that name was too boring. It lacked the fun in his name and it seemed too smartass to him, so Benny just naturally seemed appropriate to him.
Benny was out of his chair as soon as the Fox stepped in through the door, the apartment--or in this case the safe house to Cedrick--was dark and barely lit. The windows, though, were covered with open blinds and the moon seemed to have shown its brilliant blueish gray glow in through, casting the light needed to at least see the whole safe house. It was practically a condo, three white cream colored chairs surrounding a TV in one corner, and the kitchen in the back behind the setting. The majority of the space was taken over by the computer equipment to the side, from hard drives to the large flat screens the whole space seemed too technical for Cedrick to even touch it, or just be near it.
Cedrick stepped in but he certainly wasn't alone, and that's what made Benny stop in his tracks and stop talking. Following behind him was a large, bulky built Dragon who seemed to step into the room with a confident stride, his muscles and abs from his shirtless body seemed to be able break anything it would touch or tap or maybe even lightly graze. Cedrick was surely out beat by this guy but even now Benny could feel a slight danger from him, he mentally noted it.
Stepping aside, the Dragon wasn't alone, and that's what made his heart punch a beat. Following behind him was a slender built Bunny with a track star body and gorgeous eyes, his pink and velvet fur shinning in the moonlit room and his devious smirk seemed to give those eyes the sexy touch to it. Benjamin Fastdown blushed but looked away, focusing his attention on his friend Cedrick.
"Uhm, Cedrick buddy, you have followers..." Benny didn't want to come off as an ass, but that was just how he was.
Cedrick sighed and looked at the two, feeling his face still red but he felt himself growing tired of it all already. He had an exhausting night with people who had strange abilities to cast colorful mists around their hands and have their eyes change into a color too. It felt all too... unreal? "I know, they kind of had to tag along for the ride, though."
"Why?" Benny dragged the word too long, trying to bring his focus on his friend only and not the attractive Bunny next to him.
"It's... a long story...," Replied Cedrick, almost yawning in the process, "But I'll fill you in. You might want to sit down for this..."
It took nearly an hour and a half but after explaining it all, Benny wasn't sure if he was actually following the Fox or if he had just taken crack. What he was explaining was something someone would not normally hear in a regular day, and the way the other two behind him were standing it all seemed to be completely unreal and totally untrue. They made their way to kitchen during the story Cedrick was giving, both Cedrick and Benny sitting at the island in the center of the open space.
"Are you kidding me...?" Benny replied finally after staring into the Fox's eyes with a face so hard and cold that it made the black Fox stutter and hesitate.
"N-no! I'm serious, that's what actually happened, Benny! You have to believe me."
"Don't call me Benny!"
The Bunny sighed and made his first move over to the Feline within a few strides, drawing his attention towards his sexy, devious face by grabbing his jaw and directing it to his eyes, "Allow me to demonstrate..." He said in almost a purr that made Benny want to lash out and squeal like a little girl.
Benny has seen everything from inside computer space and he would even say that he has even role played with DND groups before, but that was all fake and games. This though, made Benny feel like he hasn't seen enough. What happened after staring into those sexy yellow-gold eyes was that the Bunny brought up his other hand, erupting a gel like substance that made his hand disappear inside an untamed ball of yellow-gold. Benny's first reaction was to jump out of his chair but for some reason he was frozen solid to his chair. He felt heat eradiating from the yellow...whatever it was and it made his lungs lose their breath.
"It's okay, I won't harm you..." He smirked and let the yellow gel fade into the air, disappearing into a flutter of sparkles that almost reminded Benny of a miniature fire work show.
"Now you believe me?" Cedrick sighed and kept his eyes on Benny, he almost looked phased, as if he had seen enough of this already.
Benny just stared at the Bunny's hand until he withdrew it from his view. Standing in his usual straight posture and turning, his little tail poking out from his golden armour hide. But the tail wasn't what he was looking at.
"How...," He started but couldn't focus right, was this all real? "How can that happen?"
"Believe me, I don't know..." Cedrick replied and stood up. "But I don't want to know right now. I'm exhausted..." He turned towards Benny's room.
"Where are you going?" Benny cried out, following his friend immediately after he stood up. Grabbing Cedrick's wrist, he lowered his voice, "Don't leave me with them..."
"I'm going to sleep for a bit... you'll be fine..." He yanked his hand back and stepped into the room.
Leaving Benny with two very scary characters he's never met before.
Cedrick usually let the world go by around him as he slept through the day. The sun was clearly up as the beams shown through the shutters, but never before had the sun been a bother to the Fox. He usually got up when he felt like it. The night before made him extremely tired, and to make matters worse he still didn't have the diamond he was supposed to grab for a client Benny gave him. Cedrick mentally noted that he should get in contact with his client when he would get the chance. The news feeds must already know about the theft from last night so security is going to be pumped up a little more this time so retrieving the diamond is going to get trickier.
The Fox inhaled slowly, shifting his weight a bit and turning onto his back to find that he was not alone in the room. His heart nearly jumped out of his chest for nearly the hundredth time in one night as he was greeted with the Dragon sitting on the window sill, his eyes wondering over the city's golden sunrise, his red and yellow scaled body reflecting the light and casting a perfect picture moment that a painter would adore to paint.
Cedrick could only stare until the Dragons eyes were drawn slowly to his own, then he smiled and the Fox was able to see a whole new side of him: Happiness and calmness, "Good morning."
The black Fox blushed and cleared his throat as he sat up, wearing just his pants and socks in bed, "Morning...," He replied in a fatigued voice, "What are you doing in here?"
The Dragons smile remained on his face as he looked back at the city, "I have to guard you... you aren't allowed to be alone anymore."
"Excuse me?"
"I know it may sound weird for you now, but it'll make sense in time. I promise." The Dragon sighed and got up, "We should head back out into the next room, Arion and I have much to discuss to you both."
Cedrick got up and followed the Dragon into the next room, but for a quick second the Fox was able to catch a sniff of the Dragons scent... it smelt of... fresh lavender?
"No! Stop touching my stuff!"
Cedrick knew Benny's yell when he heard it and this was a frustrated kind of yell. Arion--the golden armored Bunny--was clearly bugging Benny in the kitchen as the Feline was preparing a dinner for four. The stove was steaming water from the pots of noodles and the Bunny was just complaining about how he was trying to help but Benny wasn't a type for having help with the other thing he liked to do: Cooking.
"What? I'm bored." Said Arion, looming at the Felines side like a child wanting to help their parents.
"No!" Benny ordered, "Go away."
"Not that easy, hon." That made Benny twitch and blush like an idiot. Which the Bunny noticed and smirked a little, sensing the tension from the Feline.
"Alright you two," Julius called, both he and Cedrick entering the kitchen. "Relax, there is no need to fight."
Benny just grumbled.
As the three took their seats around the island placed in the center of the kitchen, Cedrick was the first to break out the questions. "Alright, I just have a question. Earlier last night, in the alleyway, the Lizard guy who was attacking me said something. He said that I'm the final contestant in this battle...What battle is he talking about?"
The Dragon and Bunny shifted a little and almost gave each other a glance, trying to figure out who was going to explain first.
"It's... Rather complicated." Said Arion, his voice getting low.
"We have tons of time," Replied Cedrick.
Julius sighed and raised a hand to Arion, "What he's trying to explain to you is that this entire battle is complicated." He said, his eyes staring at the counter and looking like they were going aback, "You see, the fellow you saw in the alleyway was Baltazar, a very evil and devious creature. What he meant is when he mentioned a battle is that you and...your friend here are now involved in the Guardian Wars."
"Guardian wars...?" Cedrick repeated, but before he could ask what it was about, Julius interrupted.
"Yes. Every century there is a...Game.... That is held for Guardians and Keys to compete in or rather fight. What happened is when you touched the diamond of Mazarath, you basically made the games begin." Replied the Dragon.
"Wait," Benny interrupted, turning around with an apron that had the writing, "Kiss the tail" on it, "Fight? How am I included in all this? I didn't even ask for it!"
"Well, unfortunately you are involved now for Cedrick to bring us home to you." Julius eyed Arion a little.
"So what does this mean for us?" Asked Cedrick.
"It means," Said Arion, "That you two are now involved in the Guardian Wars. Julius will be your guardian while I will be Benjamin's."
"My name isn't--" Benny stopped and turned to face the Bunny, his face blushing even more, "--Oh... Sorry."
"Regardless," Julius said, "Now that you two are involved it is Arion and I's duty to protect you at all cost. So leaving you both alone is not an option anymore. As of today you will be under our supervision, unfortunately for both of you, your privacy will be in our hands."
Arion smirked as Benny twitched at that thought.
"What are Keys?" Cedrick sighed and held his head with both hands.
"Keys are what the Guardians must protect. There are seven Keys and seven Guardians, the last guardian left standing will have obtained all the keys to unlock themselves from this madness and be given freedom while the other guardian and keys..."
"Are dead..." Arion finished for him.
"So this is a fight for life?" Asked Benny, feeling his whole life boil in his blood and fear clutching into his nerves as he prepared dinner onto plates and served it to the trio sitting at the table.
"Unfortunately, yes..." replied Julius.
This was a lot of information to take in, especially in seven minutes. The food looked delicious but as the others ate, Cedrick was finding himself less hungry in the minutes that went by. How did he get himself into this mess? Just yesterday he was given a simple task that turned into an entrance inside a battle to the death? What is his world coming to right now? Suddenly the black Fox felt like Karma was catching up to him after these years of stealing.
"Can we quit?" Asked Cedrick, staring into the plateful of dinner.
"Sure," Arion answer simply, shrugging after taking a mouth full, "You just have to die..."
"That easy, huh?"
Suddenly Cedrick wasn't feeling the humor as his stomach became nauseous, Cedrick needed to get fresh air but he felt frozen to his spot. The weight of pressure he was given was piling onto his shoulders and he was sure Benny was feeling this too. The two Guardians just sat there as if it was nothing, but to Cedrick, it meant everything...
Something didn't add up though. The client only gave the description to get the diamond and that was it. Did he know that this would happen? Well it would be weird if he didn't. Cedrick had the feeling something was plotted for this to happen, and he was going to have to find out who and what was under this.
Cedrick had to at least take his anger out on someone at least...
But right now, nothing seemed real anymore.
"Looks like those two found their Keys already..."
The brown Eagle smirked and stood tall on the building opposite of Benny's apartment, the two figures watching the foursome having their dinner, completely unaware of being watched.
The other brown Eagle smirked as well, clenching his hands and keeping his eyes on the foursome, watching them through the shutters of the windows, "Well I'm not too worried about them, brother, Julius and Arion won't make it far anyway."
"Agreed," The twin Eagle looked back at his brother, the orange irises in his eyes radiating strongly around the pupils. He was eager to get into a fight already, but that would have to wait for later. Now wasn't the time to strike yet. They had to play it out first.
"I can't wait to wrap my claws around that Rabbits neck." The other Twin brought up his hands and ejected his claws, radiating the tips with heated orange. With just a swift scratch, those claws would be able to rip through concrete, imagining what it could do to actual flesh would be too frightening and too gory.
"In time, brother." Replied the other Twin, "Soon, we'll have both their heads."
