Ps: Updated from original to set tone from unfinished by in progress second part of the story.
Basil woke up early yawning big as he started sniffing around the alley he had slept in the day before, to stay out of the rain. He chocked on a foul smell from one of the dumpsters and sneezed now awake and fully alert. He was a stray or at least he considered himself a stray living out on the streets alone. Basil is a beautiful fox with beautiful soft orange fur and big green eyes that just glisten in the sunlight. He was still young only nineteen years old and wore only some older black baggy pants he had been wearing since the day he had been kicked out of his house, having nothing else to cover him or even to keep him warm from the cold and rain. After having been thrown out of his home about eight months ago he has lived on the streets ever since, having no friends or family to turn to for help. He teared up thinking about the day it happened, his parents had found all his story's and poems of being a furry and of being gay and had burned all of them erasing countless hours of writing he had spent making them. They already didn't like him because he was born a furry for a very unknown reason as his parents were both human and when they found out that on top of being a fox that he was gay? They threw him out of the house so fast he didn't even have time to grab a shirt and only had his pants to keep him warm not even having shoes to keep his paws from getting hurt.
Basil looked around the alley sniffing the air and backing against the wall nervous about a new dominant smelling scent. Having a strong scent of a bigger furry he whined softly unable to hold it back. Turning he started darting from alley to alley till the scent was gone and he was pretty much in the middle of downtown. He lived in a city called SunSplash and he loved the city very much, but still he had no family or friends to turn to here. Wondering around daily as he did he knew every inch of the city as he has lived on the streets for many months now as he ran to the city park and sat down under the big willow tree near the lake in the middle of the grass covered park. He loved sitting there as nobody would bother him and it was nice and shady and he loved to look out over the water for long periods of time thinking about everything and anything that he could making poems in his head but not having anywhere to write them down. Basil didn't talk much and he didn't eat much either being broke and living on the streets, he always went to bed hungry and often dug in the garbage daily to find even scraps of food to stay alive or at least so his chest didn't hurt him for a little while.
Basil sniffed the air again looking around the foggy but slightly sunlit city park. It was very early, around six am and the only people outside where those going to work at the various restaurants and shops that littered the streets around the city. He almost instantly picked up the scent of food and turned, his big green eyes shimmering slightly in the morning sun as he looked out over the street and park trying to locate the source of the scent hopeing he would at least get something today to eat. He wagged his tail slightly as he held it between his paws and brushed it out with his claws gently as he was very much into hygiene to the point of looking completely groomed all the time, which was hard for furrys especially those who didn't have a working shower or soap to use. Basil got up and walked across the grass his paws making slight crunching noises in the soft grass as he approached the street and crossed it drawn to the scent of fresh chicken and greasy hash browns being made for the early people at a little diner on the corner of the street.
He got closer and took in the scent again his chest growling loudly and turning away from the diner looking back out over the park and the water shimmering off the lake in a very surreal way.He was starving as he didn't eat since yesterday afternoon. It was early Tuesday and he was suffering from hunger pains at this point. He reached into his pocket and fished out a five dollar bill though crumpled and ripped it was still money that he had found it on the sidewalk the night before. Realizing he had forgotten about getting this small treasure, his ears suddenly perked up as he walked inside the diner the little bell on the top of the door jingling as he walked inside. He was greeted by a very sweet older woman working behind the counter. He smiled up at her shyly and took a seat in the front of the diner at a booth near the corner of the diner the woman walked over to him smiling and looked down at the pup sitting in her shop.
"So what will it be today hun?" She was so perky and fun, he though as he was given a menu. "I havnt seen you here before sweety are you new around these parts?" He looked up at her, loving how nice she was to him and shook his head.
"No I'm N-not new here but I don't get out much having little money to live off" He stopped and looked down at the menu slightly embarrassed.
"Oh thats to bad hun.. well you can call me Ma everyone around here does~" She smiled at him and he smiled back blushing slightly not use to talking at all much less so personal. "You find what you wanted yet?" His eyes widened and he looked down at the menu almost having forgot he was starving and forgot to even look over the menu as she was talking to him.
"U-um sure Ill have the two egg breakfast and some water?" He had asked almost pleadingly and she smiled and giggled a little bit trying to hide it though. "Of course hun Ill get that right up for you" Turning she yelled the order to the cook and started to clean the table up for Basil.
"Sorry hun I didn't have much time to clean before you got in here, my my your early hun why so?" Basil looked up at here hopeing he could trust her but quickly decided against it.
"Um W-well I-I.. Went to bed early and .. When I woke up didn't want to go back to sleep.." He smiled hopeing it would deter her from asking more questions. He thought it was better then saying he woke up in an alley and then decided to come to her place it sounded really sad when he thought about it. Ma also known as Beth, noticed he was thinking hard about something as his cute little fox ears had drooped and approached him again. "You ok hun?" He quickly looked up and nodded slightly embarrassed "Yeah I'm fine really... I'm just hungry.." Almost on command his chest growled loudly and he blushed completely embarrassed. Beth giggled slightly and smiled wide "Don't worry hun your foods ready" She walked to the back and got the food carrying it back to the fox and placing it down. Basil looked down noticing his eggs and hash browns he had ordered but also toast and bacon and two pancakes he didn't order and looked up. "Um .. Ma?" He blushed again "I didn't order this or at least.. not all of it..." He felt it to be a bad tease that he couldn't pay for and felt cheated in a way not being able to pay for it and would have to sent it back.
She saw him frown and looked down at him "Don't worry pup its on me, eat up I can see your growing thin and need the extra food about now" She smiled as she looked down at him their eyes meeting.
A little in shock Basil looked down then back up to Beth, not knowing what to say but amazingly happy as there was more food before him then he would normally see in a good week of searching for food. "...Thank you.." Its all he could say and he knew it was weak but he truly didn't know what to say seeing her smile down at him like that
"Eat up hun before it gets cold I have to go to the back for a while to clean up but if you need me just call" She left and the fox started eating his food savoring every bite as he thought about what he would do today. He always had an ok day but was always very lonely just being a a stray and all, as well as he really wanted someone to be with... He shook his head and almost hissed at himself. "Don't.. not now.." He quietly whispered to himself through his mouthful's of food. He needed a mate but he knew it would never happen, after all who would want a stray fox like him, he had no money no place to live. He put his fork down feeling saddened and looked down at his plate still pretty full of food. He still had the pancakes and a piece of bacon left. He decided to take it to go so at least he would have dinner later, after all he did love the pancakes and the bacon most of all.
He sighed and stood up looking to the back calling for Beth softly. "You done already sweety? Aww and you didn't finish, Ill get you a box, just one minute.." She placed the bill down by the edge of the table for him walking to the back to get a box for the pancakes. Basil picked up the receipt and almost fainted instantly feeling sick, Looking down he read that he owned eight dollars and seventy five cents. How could he have forgotten about tax! He looked up to Beth packaging his food and was scared his ears drooping. After all not only did he order his meal, but she gave him stuff he didn't order and bacon! His ears instantly drooped more as his tail tucked under his legs. Beth noticing his reaction stopped and looked at him "Hun? ..are you ok?~" He trembled a little and pulled the tattered five from his pocket looking down.
"I'm so sorry.. I forgot about tax.." He whimpered softly and Beth instantly picked up the fact that despite his appearance he was very poor and for him even five dollars was a lot seeing what kinda shape the bill was in.
"......Its ok.. don't worry why I make more then enough in tips Ill cover the rest for you today" Basil couldn't look up, completely depressed. After all she was so kind to him and he couldn't pay for what he had ordered. "I'm so sorry.." He started to sink to the floor but she caught his muzzle and gently lifted his eyes to hers "Don't worry, its two dollars Ill cover it today hun~" She smiled and his ears perked up "It wont happen again Ma.." She smiled "I understand and I didn't give you a chance to review the prices with all my talking but you furry types don't come in here much anymore and I love talking with you guys as your adorable!~"
Nodding Basil looked down at his leftovers as he turned to leave. "Wait hun what about your pancakes?" He looked down feeling like he didnt deserve them as the woman gently rubbed the tip of his right ear. "Take them its fine, they would only be thrown them away anyways" He nodded and took the box thankfully heading to the door. Before he stepped out Beth called out to him "Come back anytime even if you don't have money, Ill always give you some left overs or something at the end of the night hun" He smiled a single tear sliding down his face as nobody was ever this nice to him before. "Thank you Ma~" He slid out and wiped his tear as he made his way back across the street towards the park, the sun just starting to come out lighting the fields of the bigger them normal city park with beautiful patches of light . It was past seven AM now and people were out littering the streets and making noise like they did everyday. Basil walked through the trees of the park and sat back down under the big willow tree as some leaves fell down onto his muzzle. He wiped them off and pulled the food close to him as it was food and it was the most important thing to him right now having gone days without eating before. He sat there looking out over the water and smiled breathing in the scents and enjoying the sunlight that shone through the old willow tree over him. He sat there for what seemed like hours before growing tired and falling asleep under the warm sun blanketing his body now as it rose further above him in the sky.
Basil slept for many hours and woke up with a jolt sitting up suddenly. He felt pain in his right shoulder and yelped loudly as he sat up and saw a group of human teenagers around him. He rubbed his shoulder making soft whimpering sounds as it really hurt, his body small and not use to abuse. He felt his tail stepped on behind him and yelped again holding his tail to his body tightly and shaking noticeably, completely scared as he looked up at the teens surrounding him with hig big eyes shaking more and whimpering louder.
"Look what we found here a scared pathetic fox!" He was kicked again harder this time making him yelp and clutch his knee to his chest almost crying now as the pain shot through his body "Please.. Stop..it hurts so badly.." He whined and looked up seeing his food box in the biggest of the guys hands "What do we have here?" The teen opened the box and saw the food "Oh is the foxy hungry?!" He threw the food box far out into the lake and laughed pushing the fox over with his shoe and stepping onto his chest holding him down to the ground watching him struggle in pain and crying more under his foot. He turned to his friends with him "Its extra funny because I'm wearing cleats today because of soccer later" They all laughed as the fox squirmed and cried loudly under them his chest bleeding under the shoe the cleats digging into his soft skin.
Eventually they got bored and took off running leaving the fox there his body bleeding and his spirit completely crushed. Basil limped to the water and saw the last of his food sink into the middle of the lake a few bubbles rising to the surface. He stood there for a good minute more stunned and still in pain before crying loudly and falling to his knees covering his face with his paws as his tears ran down his face and muzzle matting his paw fur. I was getting late now almost seven o'clock at night. He had slept an entire nine hours due to the fact that the night before it had rained and very cold in the alley he had slept in. He continued to cry and fell to the grass his spirit completely crushed and months of withholding his sadness finally rushing out in big tears as his body shook and he curled up tightly in a small ball in the grass next to the lake. He cried for a while the grass sticking to his face as they were wet from his tears as he shook slightly he eventually stopped, his body curling up, whimpering sadly on the soft grass as more clouds filled the sky showing sighs of raining as it had the day before.
He stayed there looking out over the water his face stained from his tears as his chest growled wanting more food. He knew his mind wasn't thinking normally but he needed to eat something. He closed his eyes but opened them again sniffing the air and murring softly smelling a nice fresh baked loaf of bread from the bakery in the middle of the street between a butcher and a clothing store. He was angry about before and got up off the grass walking to the bakery for once letting his nose lead him. He crossed the street and walked into the building opening the door hearing the little bell ring, the breadmaker looked up at him slightly annoyed "What do you want?!" Basil stepped back a little and sniffed the air. The bread maker stared at him "Buy something or get out.." He went back to his work and Basil walked to the corner of the store seeing fresh baked Sour Dough bread sitting there, the warm scent drifting up his fox nose. He was a generally good fox and didn't do anything bad but he was starving and heartbroken and he wanted the bread, seeing the package also had fresh butter along with it. He looked behind the counter to see where the guy had gone as he was no longer where he was a second before now out of sight from the small fox. Without even thinking he grabbed the bread and turned running full speed to the door. Almost instantly the bread maker appeared behind the display near the front of the store and grabbed the fox roughly by his arm. Basil dropped the bread to the ground squeaking surprised and immediately following whimpering now scared for his life. The butter spilling onto the floor and the loaf crumbling by his foot paws now completely ruined and unsanitary to eat. Basile knew he had done a terrable thing and knew that the penalty for furrys was for stealing in this city. Tears ran down his face as the baker pushed him down to the floor roughly and held him down firmly hurting his leg again as he held his large knife over the fox's wrist. Basil was scared to death and looked up at the knife knowing he would loose his paw for punishment for stealing or in this case trying to steal. It all happened so fast yet Basil saw it all so slowly in his mind. He closed his eyes crying softly and heard a small jingle of something as he expected the knife to come down on his wrist and chop it off.
Basil waited crying softly hearing silence now in the store eventually opening his tearing eyes and looked up slightly confused. He saw a beautiful silver wolf kneeling next to the baker with a metal stir stick stuck through the hole at the edge of the big knife, that was used for hanging it on the wall. The baker looked up surprised by his knife getting caught like that as he looked up at the wolf. The wolf was a good two inches taller then the baker and was completely silver except for his fur in his ears and at the tip of his tail. He had beautiful blue eyes that seemed to stare deeply inside of Basil as he looked down at the fox.
".......Sir..?. I'm going to have to ask you the price of this stir stick.." The wolf replied having a little fun with the situation as he did have an odd sense of humor for being a wolf. The baker looked up at the wolf, very annoyed as the little fox whined unable to move or do anything but stare up at the beautiful wolf. "The wolf smiled amused with himself and held tightly to the stir stick not letting the baker anywhere close to the fox with that knife.
"This fox stole something from me and now he shall loose his paw for it. He is a thief!" The wolf grinned and sighed softly knowing it was true. The fox had tried to steal the bread, He had been looking through the window considering buying a loaf for himself a few minutes beforehand and saw the entire event first hand or paw in this situation. "Correct me if I'm wrong but stealing means.. removing an item from a store without buying it or paying for it in full..am I not correct?" The Baker looked back up at him greatly annoyed and forcing the small fox's leg into the floor harder when Basil tried to move, making the fox yelp in pain and cry softly struggling slightly in pain still trapped by the baker. "...Because it seems to me, Mr Baker sir that you just threated a customer who obviously was inside of your store.. and certainly not outside of your store.. and you threated him by aggressive force with a butcher knife?.. am I not correct here?" The baker looked up angry but knowing he was defeated and knowing he would be fined if he was brought to court over this case, having no real proof if the fox was really stealing it or not.
He picked up the fox roughly and pushed him against the wolfs chest firmly making the fox squeak. "I-If he is ever in here again I swear that he will loose more then a paw!" The wolf grinned slightly not letting the baker have the satisfaction of scaring him "Don't worry there are plenty of other bakery's here and I think your prices here are a little high.. Don't you think?" The baker turned bright red "Get out!.. Out!" The wolf picked up the metal stir stick and placed it back onto the display case "Don't worry I wouldn't even dream of staying in such a filthy shop anyways.." He said so pointing to the spilled butted and break on the floor grinning slightly amusing himself even more from the situation as the baker indeed deserved it. The wolf brushed himself off and held the fox's paw gently taking a step to the door. He stopped suddenly hearing a sharp yelp from the fox seeing him sobbing and clutching to the wolfs chest . "Oh?!" He keeled by the fox and pet over the fox's soft ears "You ok?.. hun?" The fox nodded but whined again as another sharp pain shot up his right leg from where the baker had forced to the wooden floor, as the baker got impatient. "Its ok fox, here.." The big wolf picked up the fox easily and carried him out of the store holding him close as the fox looked up at him happy and afraid all at the same time by such a big wolf. "....Why did you protect me from him..sir?" The fox finally was able to whisper finding some courage in himself. The wolf looked down "Well I saw you through the window and saw how desperate you were for food and though I do not approve of stealing I could not let him hurt you, But don't ever do that again its wrong and next time it might be your head that gets chopped off instead of a paw, Why would you try to steal something especially in this city?!"
Basils ears went back down "I-i was so hungry I.. just needed something t-to eat.." The wolf could feel that the fox wasn't heavy but knew at least he has in shape if not a little skinny. The big wolf smiled down at him "Its ok just tell me where you live and Ill take you home hun~" The fox looked up at him and then looked down sadly his ears drooping again. The wolf stopped walking and looked down at him noticing his paw was bleeding "Oh hun your paw.." Basil looked to his left paw "Oh no that wasn't the baker that was the guy who.." The wolf's ears drooped hearing the fox had been beaten up before the whole bakery thing. "And you don't have a home?" The fox shook his head feeling so pathetic and like the runt of the litter nobody wants to buy. The wolf looked slightly disturbed and then nuzzled across the foxes muzzle taking in his warm scent as well. "Don't worry hun.. its late you can stay with me tonight.." He smiled down at the fox seeing Basil blush seeing him do so. "Oh if thats ok with you.. Um.. I'm sorry but what is your name fox?" The fox looked up at him "My name is Basil... I don't want to intrude.. after all you saved my paw and possibly my life and for that I am grateful enough to you.."
The wolf smiled "My name is Sketch, Basil.. don't worry, your not intruding. After all I cant let you sleep out in the cold and it might rain again. I would hate to be home thinking about you curled up in some alley in the rain, plus your leg is pretty hurt from being kicked that hard in the knee by those kids hun" Basil sighed and waited a minute before answering "... If your completely sure you want me.." Sketch looked down at him "What? An amazingly cute fox like you? Of course, I would love for you to stay with me at least one night~" Basil blushed and looked up at Sketch burying his face into the wolfs neck gently if not slightly submissively. Sketch smiled and held the fox closer to his chest, his heart beating a little faster as he nuzzled gently into Basils neck gently.
It took a while but eventually they reached Sketches apartment. It was small very small having one room and a kitchen as well as a bathroom/shower so it was ok. Basile looked around at everything like it was amazing, as he was set on the edge of the bed by Sketch. Sketch keeled in front of him and gently rubbed the fox's ears trying to cheer him up "I'm sorry hun I don't have a big place I have a small job in a coffee shop and don't make much money.. "
Basil was still looking around the room seeing the bed he was sitting on was a twin and seeing Sketch had a small TV as well as the big window with a place to sit or lay down under it so you could look out it over the city. Basil was just happy to have a room over his head and he smiled to Sketch "Its lovely~" Sketch smiled "Hopefully I can get a bigger place soon but until then I'm fine with this place. Its old and doesn't have a heater but its been good to me and the people who rent it to me are really nice so.." He sat down next to Basil and gently lifted his paw that was still bleeding as he licked the blood off of it gently taking a bandage out of his pocket wrapping it around the fox's paw gently till it was covered, giving basil's paw a small kiss.
Basil looked over the wolf and smiled watching Sketch care for his hurt paw. He loved the feeling of being touched by the wolf and murred softly as the wolf bandaged then kissed his paw. He blushed and looked up to Sketches eyes still surprised by how he was being treated his eyes tearing a little from the slight pain and from the care he was getting blushing brightly feeling slightly uncomfortable at the attention never really having been cared for before at least like this.
Sketch looked up and saw the fox looked slightly uncomfortable and stopped hopeing he didn't scare the poor fox more "I'm sorry Basil I just think your cute and.. "He blushes and gently let go of Basils paw as he looked to Basil's face. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you nervous.." Basil shook his head and looked up at the wolf happily.
"I liked it Sketch.. It makes me feel special at least a little I know I'm not, I'm a furry and furry's arnt special.." Sketch looked up and held Basils bandaged paw close to his chest "Who told you that basil? Its not true.. not in the least. Maby you don't have money or a family but that doesn't mean you cant be loved or be respected. Your special to me Basil so don't talk like that" Sketch blushed brightly not recognize his own words. Though they were true he never had relized he liked other guys. Though on his behalf he never gave it much though before. They both looked into each others eyes and started to get closer, each of them staring into each others eyes their muzzles drawing closer together as they started to press their muzzles together intimately. Suddenly Basil's watch went off and they both jumped both of them turning away from each other the moment lost for now each embarrassed at even the thought of kissing.
"I'm sorry Basil its my time to go to sleep alarm.." He smiled his face red still from embarrassment and laid down on the bed trying to understand the odd feelings he felt towards the fox. Suddenly he felt the fox lay down behind him and turned to face him looking deeply into Basil's beautiful blue eyes. "How old are you Sketch?" Sketch smiled and held Basil's paws gently in his own carefully so he didn't hurt the bandaged paw again, "I'm twenty one now, it is actually my birthday today Basil.." Basil smiled and suddenly pressed his muzzle against the wolfs Sketch surprised but finally giving into the temptation as he kissed the fox back wrapping his arms around the fox and holding him close gently rubbing over his back and making out with him for a few minutes before they stopped each nuzzling the other lovingly. They were both quiet for the next few minutes enjoying each others company and then started kissing again holding close to each other passionately. Basil looked up at sketch his eyes shimmering in the soft light "Sketch?"
Sketch placed his paw on his back and pulled him closer gently "What is it Basil?~"
Basil Nosed Sketch and then sighed "I wish I could have gotten you something for your birthday" He looked sadly at the wolf and looked down at their paws as Sketch lifted his muzzle gently with his paw. "Don't worry I think I got the best present I could have wanted~" He held Basil closer and Basil squeaked slightly confused "Whats that Sketch?" Basil tilted his head looking at the wolf as Sketch ran his paws down Basil's side and held him closer "I got a fox to fall asleep with~"
Basil blushed and pressed to the wolfs chest taking in his warm scent as a tear rolled down his face. "You mean you really want me here with you?" Sketch started to pet over Basil's paws again "Ill let you stay with me as long as you want hun. Though even if you stay just this one night I'm happy~" Basil blushed more and kissed the Wolfs muzzle lovingly. "What if I never wanted to leave you Sketch?~"
Sketch held Basil closer in his arms nuzzling the side of his muzzle not knowing what to say to this question. Knowing he wanted to but at the same time confused at his new feelings towards another male. Basil smiled and kissed the wolf again not completely understanding the issues and thoughts the wolf was dealing with. " They both looked into each others eyes for a long time enjoying each others company and cuddling close to each other. Eventually Sketch fell asleep with both his arms around the Basil holding him close to his chest to keep him warm through the night not wanting the fox to get sick.
Basil stayed awake for a while after watching the rain through the window and as he started drifting to sleep. Sketch had never answered his question but he was happy he got to stay inside with a wonderful male Wolf for even a night knowing he wasn't tired from sleeping all day before but not wanting to leave the side of the warm male wolf who had saved and cared for him. Basil nuzzled the wolfs neck lovingly and started thinking of the old days when he was younger drifting to sleep to relive those events that haunted his past whining slightly as he did every time he tried to sleep.
