Joel Zachariah Robinson, a name that hasn't been heard in quite some time. King sighed staring at the back of his "soul watch," his former and real name etched into the back of the green pocket watch.
"What is with you and that silly watch?" A white husky asked, appearing behind the small Welsh Corgi.
King turned up to see a tall, pure white husky before him. The husky, Fox, almost doubled King in size, his snow white fur glistened in the sun, and the only color that differentiated on the canine was his yellow bandana that wrapped around his neck, acting as his dog tag.
"Huh, oh it's nothing" King replied, trying to shake the husky off the question that he did not want to answer.
"Oh come on King, you can tell me, it can't be that big of a secret that your best friend can't even know, right?" Fox asked, trying his best to guilt King into answering.
"I....I'm your best friend?" King asked, touched to actually hear that from someone, especially someone as great as Fox.
King didn't want to admit it, but Fox had so far made his life as a dog such an amazing thing. Fox treated him like no human or dog has ever treated him before and this fact alone has caused conflict in King/Joel's choice in whether he is truly a human or dog. King cared so much for Fox, and unbeknownst to Fox, much more than a best friend cares for each other.
"Oh course bud, we've spent so much time together, I introduced you to my family in Kansas, and you stay at my house all the time. I mean, you're practically my brother King."
Hearing those words brought such mixed feelings to King's mind, he didn't want to be a brother to Fox, and he didn't want to be "just friends" with him either. King wanted to be so much more with Fox, but he knew he could never let Fox know that. Thoughts often came up like "He'll never want to be my friend if I tell him" as well as "Fox would never fall in love with me, why would he?" often came up in King's mind.
"Uh..... Thanks Fox; you're such a good friend." King stuttered, almost too preoccupied in thought to answer his friend.
"You're welcome buddy, you up for dinner at my house again?" Fox was such a great friend, often having King over for amazing dinners and great nights of fun.
"Yes, thank you Fox. I'll see you at your house at 6" King nodded with excitement. King loved spending as much time with Fox as possible, and whenever Fox had King for dinner he'd often stay the night. King knew that when he stayed with Fox, he'd get to be as close as possible with Fox since Fox always insisted that King sleep next to him. King would often wait for Fox to fall asleep and would inch closer to him, his chest fur pressed against by King's head.
Fox waved goodbye to his friend and walked back to his home. King couldn't help but steal of glance of Fox's nicely toned and very sexy ass whenever he could, and took his chance as Fox walked away.
"Why am I so attracted to that damn dog, why is he so nice to me, why is this all happening to me?" All these thoughts and so many more filled the small Corgi's mind as he threw his head into his hands and groaned. King could not believe that he was attracted to a male, especially not a male dog. He even tried to find love in a female dog (since he knew that no human would fall in love with him as a dog), and had a relationship with Fox's cousin, Bailey. However, King knew he couldn't lie to Bailey and broke up with her, claiming that since she lived all the way out in Kansas while he was back at his home, that the distance would be too hard for them.
"You can't be tempted by what you're feeling King, it will bring about disastrous results."
The figure said as it appeared behind King. The blue gryphon in a trench coat and bowler hat placed his hand on King's shoulder and smiled.
"It's been awhile Pete." King replied staring up at the tall blue creature.
"I know you have feelings for him King, but if you do tell him your true self, he would never want to return those feelings to you. Plus if you do return to your human form, you will never get to be with him, you can't be with him, in fact."
"What?!! But that's not fair, I...... he has to know how I'm feeling. I...I...lo..."
"Don't you dare say it King, you cannot be with him, end of negotiations. Now listen to me or you will deal with severe repercussions from your actions" The gryphon demanded, a fierce sternness showing on his face.
"Please......" King whispered, tears beginning to well up in his eyes as he faced the saddening news given to him.
"I'm sorry King, end of discussion. Now I have to go, please listen to what I have said and do the right thing. Good bye!" The mystical bird then disappeared into a blur and was quickly gone, leaving the heartbroken Welsh Corgi alone once again. Like opening a floodgate, King finally let out his feelings as tears streamed down his face. Hiding his face into his paws, King leant back against the nearest tree and began to sob.
"Why can't I ever be given happiness?!" This thought filled King's mind as he continued to cry.
"Fox has been the only fur in this damn neighborhood that has shown me compassion. Fox defended me after Bino's Christmas prank with the catnip, Fox saved my watch when Bino tried to destroy it, Fox is the only person who I think truly loves me in this whole entire world."
"Why can't I just show him that I love him back?!" King screamed, his fist slamming into the ground, tears continuing to roll down his face.
Later
Dinner time quickly came around as Fox waited for his close friend to appear at his door step. However, hours passed as King never came to knock on the white husky's door.
"Where the heck are you King, you'd never miss dinner and fun at my house unless something happened?" Fox thought aloud trying to figure out where his friend disappeared to. Fox walked down the street to where his friend was staying, the house the ferrets bought for the wolves to stay in. With a ding of the door bell, Fox waited patiently to discover the answer of why he was stood up. A sudden open of the door revealed the tall, grey wolf, Miles.
"Hello Fox, what's up?" the wolf asked.
"Where's King at, Miles, because we had plans and he never showed up. Is he ok, he's not hurt is he?" The Fox anxiously asked back
"He hasn't been home all day Fox, but I think I know where he might be. There's a tree house behind our home that was built as a gift from the ferrets. The cubs don't care for it so King often uses it as a comfort zone and a place to be alone. I'd check there if I were you"
Fox nodded and said goodbye to the wolf as he stepped off the porch and walked around the Wolf's estate. In the distance sure enough, stood a large oak tree with a sturdy wooden home built above it. A small flicker of light could be seen from the tree house, giving sign to something staying up in it. Fox followed closer to the tree and stared up at the wooden panels nailed into the side that created a ladder to the opening at the bottom of the wooden structure. Grabbing onto the third ladder panel, Fox began to pull himself up and climb up into the tree house.
"King, you better have a good explanation why....." Fox began to say as he reached the panel to the opening of the tree house. Staring in however, Fox was quickly silenced.
King lay curled up on the floor, asleep, the tan fur under his eyes matted and worn. Fox instantly knew that King had been crying and sighed with regret. Fox entered the club house and stood over his sleeping friend.
"Poor King, he's cried himself to sleep. I can't live him alone out here tonight, I have to do something." Fox thought to himself as he realized what he needed to do. Kneeling down behind his friend, Fox laid behind King and slowly wrapped his arms around him. Fox pulled King into an embrace and slowly closed his eyes and began to fall asleep. Before he finally nodded off to sleep however, Fox let out one final thing to his sleeping friend.
"It's going to be ok King, everything will be alright."
