Awakening Prologue
Today a year ago was the day it all began. How was I supposed to know that one little action would set off a chain of events that would ruin the lives of so many. I am a fox named Maria, and I happen to be a catalyst. I live to be hunted, I am feared beyond reason, yet I do nothing to harm. It is my potential to do harm that scares many. Most catalysts use their powers to cause harm and those of us that are passive are judged on that.
Maybe I skipped a bit. A catalyst is one of the furs that was changed during the events of the Great Flash. What is this you ask. Well, it wasn't a light, it was more like darkness that enveloped the world for a day. The furs of this world thought that the end of days was upon them and panicked. This was not the case, all that happened was a second moon had appeared. The tides were not effected, the weather remained the same, nothing really changed.
Days went by as the cause of this was tracked down. The trail led them to a simple scientist, one that was working on a new power source. While he did not know how this had happened, I, his research assistant did. A complex formula that he had come up with to fully harness the sun's power, I realized that it could be used to give powers to furs. How I realized this, I do not know. Something told me about it, call it a gut feeling. The moon was an unexpected side-effect as all I did was release the gas that was created into the atmosphere. But it turned out that the second moon was the power source for these new powers. This is the beginning of my and many other's stories.
