Finding love at Christmas
My inner alarm turns on and my eyelids begin to flutter open. Glancing at the clock on my nightstand I note that it's only about five in the morning. Turning ever so slightly to the right I gracefully plummet to the floor. Thankfully my arms are more awake than I, and soon I'm on all fours. Rolling onto the balls of my feet and standing upright I begin to go about my daily business. Well what I can do at five in the morning while everyone is still asleep.
"Meh what can I do?" I voiced my thought. "They never really accepted my being gay so why would they want me here at Christmas?" looking about my room before placing my big black hoodie, favourite jeans and of course clean socks and underwear. After I had prepared my cloths and set my bag out i padded softly to the town cupboard and took one before silently closing the door and heading back to my room.
Ducking under my bed and slipping loose my hidden cupboard i searched for my book. It was a gift from my mums mother. Everyone thought she was crazy, but I knew differently. Only cause I walked in on her little secret. She had had her hand stretched out and all around the room dishes were flying.
"Just keep this our little secret, okay Kai." like a good little pup I nodded and mimed my lips being sealed. She had smiled and continued her practice and study of magic. As the years passed she had began to teach me some little tricks. Nothing dangerous of course but none the less she reached and like a sponge I absorbed the new knowledge eagerly. After two or three months of being here student we were at the same place and soon it becoming something of a hobby for the two of us to do together.
Before she had passed away she had given me her spell book - the book I now held firmly in my small hands. It contained decades of work and the old tome was like a guide on how to cast the perfect spell. Not once had I cast a spell from this book wrong. Flicking to the page I had book marked. On the page the spell I needed and headed to the bathroom.
The spell I had needed was a silencing spell. The spell would all sound to be contained within the four walls of a room. The target room right now was the bathroom.
Slipping through the door I mutter the quick incantation. "vox obvolvo," the walls gave off a magical aura so stepping outside and closing the door again I flicked the light on and the sound of the fan wasn't on. Letting a small smile grace my lips I slipped back into the bathroom.
The fan overhead buzzed continuously. Padding over to the sink I peered at my reflection. My black fur thankfully hid most of my bones and dull almost dead eyes gazed back at me. I used to be well fed but now I was supposedly not even worth feeding. I gave myself a more thorough look over. Though my fur was as black as night hints of white made intricate patterns that twisted and twirled. On the black of my right paw was a crescent moon encircled by thorn like vines and on my left was pretty much the same except this time with a star. I looked up and back into my eyes. Their icy blue depths knowing no bounds. Snapping my gaze away from the mirror and jumping into the shower to let the warmth of the water engulf me.
For a few minutes I just stood still my tears masked by the water. Everyone I had ever loved within my family either hated me or was six foot under, but most hated me about three liked me...they were all six feet under. I know sucks but that's life.
Once I had restored my emotional barriers and finished washing myself I waved my hand and my fur dried instantly. Wordless magic becomes easier with practice of the incantation. I dispelled my silencing spell and headed back to my room. Once safely inside I quickly dressed in the cloths I had set out.
Now that I was washed and dressed I cast a muffling spell on my feet to dampen the noise made by my footfalls so as not to wake the rest of e household should someone become a slightly more light sleeper.
"Portam silentio," I whispered to at the door making sure that no sound would emanate from it. I opened quickly and thanks to the spell closed silently behind me.
So with spell book in bag I set off to find someplace to practice. It used to be I practiced in grandma's house. I still go there now but it's nice to have a change of scenery sometimes. She had left her old mansion for me in her will which I thought was really sweet of her the rest thought it favouritism.
Today was a day for a change of scenery. A big change. I mean I love the smell of thousands of old books, it somehow comforts me. But I didn't need comfort today, nope I needed something...different I guess.
I had walked through town till I got to the forest line. Scanning about me to make sure I wasn't being followed and finally once satisfied slipped into the cover of the trees.
Walking for at least twenty minutes I stopped. Looking around the clearing within the forest it hadn't been this way before. You could see clearly how the trees had been pulled from the ground callously. Sometimes I wonder how we could take nature for granted like this. Most of the magics in the world seem to rotate around some form of nature. Shaking my head I walked over to a tree and placed my bag at the roots before taking out the spell book to find a new spell to learn.
I had chosen a light spell and a healing spell, however healing was proving to be a problem. The light spell on the other hand went perfectly. A small orb sat in my hand I started to experiment with it, changing the lights colour the size, I had even managed to make it float in the air around me.
Suddenly a branch snapped. Dispelling the orb and teleporting over to my bag shoving the book inside before turning myself and the bag invisible, I waited for the person to show themselves.
About five minutes later a tall muscle toned wolf came into e clearing. He was dripping in sweat and was breathing heavily. My breath hitched. He was amazing. Not in brains or anything like that but he just looked amazing. He bent down and I saw all of his muscle roll and harden as he stretched the kinks out of his muscles and bones.
But I was no longer looking at his muscles I was looking at, I was looking at him as a whole. He had long shot looking light brown fur with a few strips of white here and there. When he looked up I saw a soft chocolate brown eyes. He had to have been at least six foot three maybe taller. To be honest it didn't even matter, he was probably straight and e likelihood of me seeing him again was close to nil. Better to cut my loses now.
A gun shot sounded and time seemed to slow as the wolf let out an anguished howl of pain. Eyes going wide I leap from my hiding place and dash towards him my invisibility spell wearing off.
"oh god," I whispered more to myself than to him.
"Heh," he smiled up at me. "I'll live, trust me I've had way worse than argh," I panicked what was I going to do. Grandma's only rule was magic should be a last resort. I spotted the wound thankfully the bullet had gone straight through, through what I wasn't not sure of though. Noticing his backpack I asked him if he had a first aid kit. He shook his head, obviously in too much pain to speak. Realising there was absolutely no other options.
"I'm going to do something that may freak you out a bit," I warned but before he could ask I began the healing spell that I had failed miserably at. Praying luck was on my side I placed a hand over his wound and spoke the spell.
"dolore laesi vulnus sana quod," my prayers must have been answered because I watched as his wound stitched itself back together. He sighed as the pain left his body. Standing I strode off for the tree line, hoping that he wouldn't follow me. Unfortunately being around five foot six had its draw backs.
His hand wrapped around my wrist and he pulled me gently so I would stop. I looked at my shoes not wanting to see how he was looking at me. His hand came into view and I could feel his thumb and forefinger pad hold my chin as he forced me to look up at him.
"Thank you," he said simply before allowing me to have my chin back. I muttered a quiet 'your welcome' but he heard because he gave a soft chuckle.
Thunder rumbled over head and the heavens let loose the water they had been storing. I waved my hand conjuring covering the rain from me like an umbrella would. He looked up to the sky.
"Names Jake by the way," he said not taking his gaze from the sky. "if you don't mind, what's yours?"
"Kai, my names Kai," looking down at me he smiled telling me that it was nice and that it suited me. I smiled, why was he talking to me? Not that I didn't want him to it was just that if anyone talks to me it's to get me to do their homework or something.
"Come on you'll catch a cold," Offering a hand which he took I led him back to my grandma's old mansion.
When we came close I heard him gasp. Whether it was a gasp of amazement I couldn't tell but as long as he was warm and didn't get a cold I didn't care.
Waving my hand the front door opened and closed swiftly behind us. Snapping my fingers at the hearth and fire roared up from the wood that lay there. I motioned for him to sit on the sofa.
"I'll be right back," I told him before heading through to the kitchen to make him a cup of warm tea. Once I had the tea made I brought it back through to him. He smiled before sniffing the tea warily. Taking the cup from him I took a delicate sip from the cup. Opening my mouth so he could see the tea before swallowing and opening my mouth again. He smiled almost sheepishly.
"Sorry I'm new in town and well, people said not to trust you," I shrugged handing him back the cup and watched as he downed the rest. I stared forcing my mouth not to drop down in shock.
Walking upstairs to get him a blanket or something to keep him warm I noticed that it was starting to snow.
"Looks like we will have snow this Christmas after all," I whispered to myself.
"Yeah, I think your right," Jake's voice ghosted past my ear making me jump. He gave a low chuckle. "Sorry, didn't mean to scare ya," I smiled telling him it was ok.
I eventually gave up on finding a blanket and settled for conjuring one. He had smiled and said his thanks. I left him to rest for a bit on the couch. Even sprawled out his feet had to hang off the ends. I smiled at the sight before me.
I sat at the foot of the sofa just gazing into the fire. It's amazing how the simplest things can calm me down, even if I don't need to be calmed. Something big started to weave through my head furs. I tensed before remembering about my guest. I relaxed into the gentle rhythm he was getting into. It was a circular motion going what I think was anti clock wise.
He removed his hand and I let out a low and soft whimper. I immediately felt childish and my face heated up. A low chuckle rumbled through his chest before he lifted me up and lay me on top of him.
Smiling up at me he leaned in I hesitated but only for a brief moment. Worries all but disappeared. Here was an amazing guy who wanted to kiss me and I was hesitating. I closed the distance and fireworks exploded. We pulled apart.
"Sorry, Kai,"
"Don't be," I told him. Leaning up he kissed me again.
"I love you, Kai,"
"I love you to, Jake," we lay there for a while, wrapped in each others arms. Best Christmas ever, I thought before fall into the embrace of sleep. Warm and safe in my new lovers arms.
