Slice of Life: A Typical Morning
It's short, yeah. But you know, this is like my first actual story. x3
Constructive criticism is appreciated, but no being mean please! ^^
Just a normal morning for my mate and I. <3
Xander yawned and stretched, his mate's arm slipping off his bare chest and onto his stomach. He looks to his side and smiles at the cute fox curled up by his side. The speckled, ash colored reptile carefully removed his fox's arm from his stomach and silently slid out of bed. He tiptoed across the room, the low light from their green LED alarm clock (which read 6:45 AM) softly casting his shadow along the wall. Sync, the fox, stirred and groaned softly in his sleep and Xander looked over his shoulder, smiling again. He loved his mate, and he loved to watch him sleep. Donning a pair of dark red boxer briefs, the reptile slipped out the bedroom door and shut it quietly behind him.
It was a lovely spring morning. Not really, this was Canada. Which means it was raining outside. But Xander didn't mind. Having grown up in western Washington in the United States, he was quite acclimated to rain and clouds and wind. The lizard rubbed his eyes and yawned again. He headed into the kitchen to get some coffee started. He always ground the coffee beans at night so that whoever ended up making the coffee wouldn't wake the other with that startling noise the Magic Bullet made. He walked up to the coffee maker and pressed the start button. Then he headed over to the pantry and pulled out the Bisquick. This morning's breakfast was to include waffles with syrup, coffee and a selection of fruit (plums, apples or bananas). Next was the waffle iron, which Xander pulled out of a cupboard near the sink. He got a big bowl in which he dumped one package of Bisquick, along with milk, two eggs and some vegetable oil, mixing it all together with a big plastic spoon.
The coffee maker beeped loudly once, notifying the still sleepy apartment that it was finished making it's morning brew. Xander hoped that it hadn't woken the fox, but he assumed it hadn't since he did not hear any movement coming from the bedroom. He went back to his waffle making, noticing that the waffle iron was adequately heated and pouring some of the smooth but still slightly lumpy mixture in. He closed the waffle iron and let it sit for a moment. After a minute or so he twisted the handle and the iron flipped upside-down in order to ensure the the waffle came out pleasantly golden brown on all sides. Once the delicious cake-like breakfast was finished, he carefully pulled it out with a fork and plopped it down on a plate. This process was repeated two more times, and just as the third waffle was finished, Xander heard soft, slow footsteps coming down the hall from the bedroom.
His mate, a dashing young arctic fox, stretched and yawned as he entered the kitchen/living space.
"Good morning, sweetheart," Xander said with a warm smile, cutting the third waffle in half, sticking it in a Ziploc bag and placing it int he freezer to be eaten for breakfast another day.
"Mornin' hun," the fox replied sleepily, rubbing his eyes and sitting down at the kitchen bar. Xander poured him a cup of coffee and placed the sugar bowl and soy coffee creamer within reach.
"Sleep well?" asked the reptile while sticking some maple syrup in the microwave to warm up, then proceeding to butter up both of the giant waffles.
"Yeah, but I had this crazy dream about lobsters riding on hamsters." Xander chuckled and nodded, pouring the now steaming syrup over their breakfasts and sliding one plate, a fork and a knife across the counter top and toward the fox. Sync picked up the silverware and began to munch on the fluffy breakfast cake. Xander smiled and watched as the waffle began disappearing into his fox's maw. The lizard started in on his own waffle, choosing a plum for fruit and pretty soon the couple was down to just the coffee.
"So what do you want to do today? We could start with a movie if you want. The Lake House maybe?" Xander leaned on the counter top as he asked his mate. The fox took a sip of his coffee and nodded enthusiastically. After Xander placed the DVD in the player, the couple sat down upon the couch, leaning against each other and holding hands. Sync grabbed the remote and turned the television on, pressing play on the DVD menu. They snuggled up against each other and watched as the romance movie began.
