Hey, it's been a while....

Hey, it's been a while.

This is just a quick One shot between Spyro and Cynder to get me back into writing. It's been bad for me for a while and i've lost so much confidence in everything i do, so i really needed to just get something written up. I'm sorry if it's rushed, i wrote it in a few hours, but i'm still trying to get back into it all.

Anyway, see what you think, Enjoy

Time is a strange thing, it can seem to pass one by without so much as a hint, causing days at a time to just disappear. On the other hand, then it can seem to drag on and on, minutes seemingly lasting for hours, like the world has gone into stand still. The moments we treasure could be gone in an instant, while the bad times could stretch out for a painful amount of time.

This was the very dilemma which faced the young purple dragon, sitting alone under the tree. Blankly staring out at the dark night sky. There was barely a cloud in the sky, allowing the light of distant stars down on the earth. The moon shone brightly, it's silvery glow casting an eerie yet beautiful light over the seen. The only noise was the faint rustling of the leaves as a gentle breeze swept over the land scape.

Just like every night before, the young dragon was deep in thought. Ever since he and Cynder had arrived back to society, they had been separated, each tasked with there own tasks to repair the broken city of Warfang, even the heroes couldn't get out of it. The time he had spent with her had gone too fast, the days of battling Malefor had been so fast-paced and hectic, it had all moved so fast and now he was stuck in the slow lane, unable to even meet the dragoness he cared about.

Spyro's affections were in turmoil, the whole time he had been separated from her, he had worried about competition from other dragons. She was by far the most attractive dragoness around and Spyro knew it. Other males would be dying for a mate, it was a new era and that meant that everyone was more... fruitful. Spyro had rejected countless offers of courting from various dragoness's, constantly directing them to other males in the immediate area. Males were even beginning to hang around Spyro when the females approached him, hoping he would redirect one their way. It was almost as hard work as repairing the seemingly countless buildings, and at least with the buildings you didn't have to come up with some pathetic excuse.

Spyro's mind, however, began to wander even from the most important thing in his life. What of his family? What of his Mom or Dad? Were they safe? Did they war affect them? Could he visit them? He felt sick as the fear for his adopted parents filled him up, they were only dragonflies but they were his parents, they were as close as blood relatives and he would never let anything happen to them.

Spyro sat up and panted a little bit, his mind was speeding up, going into overdrive. All the worries he felt were beginning to get the better of him. He slowly took a few deep breaths and calmed down, it was too much to get worked up over everything, especially since there was yet another day of work ahead of him.

He slumped back down on the ground, his head hitting ground with a light thud. Sleeping out of the city was much more peaceful, particularly since the females of the city had found the shack he had been given. Waking up with a complete stranger lying next to you is not the most enjoyable way to wake up, and it's even worse if there is more than one.

Spyro tilted his head back to gaze at the towering buildings of the vast city behind him. It's beautiful style and architecture only rivalled by the great cities to the south, the supposed hub all culture and style. Spyro considered it for a fleeting moment, just flying away and just exploring. But there was one thing he couldn't leave behind, once more, his mind was cast back to the young dragoness for which he craved.

Suddenly was a murmur of talk, Spyro spun around quickly. Spyro up jumped up as silently as he could manage, hiding within the branches of the tree. He really didn't want to get caught by someone, he didn't want people knowing where he went at night, heaven forbid what would happen then. A males voice sounded out in the night over the faint rustling of leaves.

"Your scales glimmer in the moon light like a rose in the sun"

Spyro's face contorted instantly and he stifled a laugh as corny verses of poetry were recited. Obviously someone was trying to court a female, which wasn't a new story to anyone thanks to the events of the past few days. He bit his lip as he caught another line of poetry from the male

"For all that I am, I am in awe, of what you are, my dark goddess"

The voice's came closer until they were underneath the tree. Spyro peaked down at the romantic, his scales were a dark green and he had black spines down his back. Spyro couldn't quite see the poor female at which the poetry was directed.

"On this night, I beg of you, under the bright moonlight, let me bond with you, through and through."

Spyro listened out for the females response to the barely concealed mating offer. However, Spyro nearly fell out the tree in surprise as Cynder's soft voice sounded out through the night.

"Wow... that was certainly... different"

Spyro remained frozen in spot, she couldn't possible fall for this hopeless romantic, could she? Had Spyro missed his chance to finally tell Cynder his feelings? He did his best to keep his breathing under control, but panic was growing in his chest.

"So what do you say? How about you forget about all those other males and let me prove why I'm easily the best around?"

The green dragon said, and Spyro felt a snarl build up. He waited with baited breath, he was ready to pounce on the green dragon if he tried even the smallest thing on her, yet Cynder spoke before Spyro could act.

"Listen, Quake. You are a sweet dragon, and i'm impressed that you managed to come up with all that poetry. But I don't think we're quite... compatible."

Spyro almost gave a sigh of relief, barely stopping himself as Cynder's rejection was like music to his ears. But suddenly Quake said in an arrogant voice.

"Compatible? COMPATIBLE! What the hell more could you possible want?! Chicks love poetry!"

Spyro felt a surge of frustraion and annoyance at the green dragon. NO-ONE spoke to Cynder like that! and this punk was definately pushing his luck. Cynder however just kept calm and in the same quiet tone said.

"Listen Quake.... i'm not a 'Chick'. I don't even know what that's supposed to mean? I don't care that what the other dragoness think, i've just never been a fan of well.... that."

Quake was twitching now, his whole body tensing in rage while Cynder watched calmly. Spyro could feel himself tensing up too, his whole body gearing up to take this guy down. But stil he held himself back and waited as Quake pratically spat out.

"Listen here! I spent like twenty minutes wrestling all that romantic crap out of some loser! I've had to pass of like fifty offers from females, and they were all less fridged then you! If you didn't like then you could have said before! Then you could have seen the real me in all my glory up at warfang!"

Spyro felt that same snarl in his chest; the green dragon was really beginning to get on his nerves, and apparently so was he with Cynder's.

"I said no! Get over it! I'm sure one of those fifty other dragoness would be glad to 'bond with you through and through' but I'm not interested."

Quake stamped his foot, and said in a snarl.

"You know what, I don't even need a dragoness like you! You'd probably kill me in the night anyway! You frigid serpent!"

Spyro felt a small bubble of rage in his chest, without thinking he jumped out of the tree and came down hard on the green dragons back. He went down without a word, taken completely by surprise. Spyro flipped the green dragon over, his teeth were bared in Quakes terrified face and he said in a dark voice.

"She said no, and you better deal with it! And if I ever hear you call her that again, i'll kill you first! Got that?!"

Quake nodded frantically and Spyro let him up. The green dragon sprung to his feet, and instantly he began to sprint away from the pair. His tail firmly in between his legs, yipping in fear. Spyro watched him go, but slowly it dawned on him what he had done.

"Spyro?"

A quiet voice asked from behind. Spyro froze for a second as he slowly realised what he had done. He gulped and turned around slowly, a sheepish grin on his face.

"Umm.... Hi Cynder.... lovely night out isn't it?"

He asked awkwardly as Cynder watched him, laughing slightly to herself.

"Spyro what were you doing in a tree? Were you following me?"

Spyro instantly shook his head frantically, saying quickly as he did.

"No! I was here first, I just needed to get away from the city for a bit. Then I heard you coming and I hid in a tree because I didn't want people following me, but then I heard it was you and that dragon was getting on my nerves and well...."

Spyro trailed off as Cynder just started to laugh. She shook her head slowly and said quietly.

"Nothing is ever just normal when i'm with you, There always something stupid going on, i can't even reject someone without you popping out of somewhere."

Cynder laughed again, her voice bore no trace of even speaking to Quake. Spyro gave another nervous laugh, and he said in the most casual voice he could muster.

"Nope, I guess not. Sorry about that.... i just..."

However was voice quickly left him as Cynder stared at him, a sweet smile on her face. Spyro stammered slightly as he found himself getting caught up in her eyes, the dark emeralds glittering as if they her in a story. Cynder felt a smug smile beginning to creep across her face, but before it could form she asked curiously.

"So, why do you want to get away from the city? I would have thought being a hero would have meant you'd have first pick of the females... you haven't picked... have you?"

Her voice had a definate tone of worry in it, despite the relaxed and seemingly calm demenor. Spyro however just gave a long groan and said in a exsaperated voice.

"No... let's just say i'd rather avoid most of the females in warfang. Trust me, some of them really need to learn about personal space, and that's it REALLY not OK to break into my room."

There was a small giggle from Cynder and Spyro to laughed a little. Through fits of giggles, Cynder managed to force out.

"Break into your room? And I thought I had it bad with poetry!"

Spyro shook his head slowly as if refusing something, saying in a very matter-of-fact way as he did.

"Well, so far all i've had fan girls..... That's something i didn't expect. But either way, I don't think I'll be going for any of them anytime soon."

Despite the dark, Spyro swore he could see a relieved look spread across Cynder's face, but he forgot about it and said.

"I just come out here to think things.... about my family and...."

He trailed of as he almost recited the dragoness's name. But thankfully, Cynder took a small step towards him and asked quietly.

"Have you had any word from them? What's happened to Sparx?"

Spyro sat down on the ground and Cynder placed herself next to him. Spyro looked at her slowly, and his own concerned expression spread across his face, worries from earlier filling up inside him.

"Sparx went to see them and he hasn't returned yet, so I've got no idea what's happened to them. What if their home was destroyed? What if they're dead and Sparx is mourning? What if I wasn't able to save them..."

Spyro began to babble, that all too familiar sickening forming in his stomach. Cynder felt a something soft begin to wrap around his tail and he looked back to see Cynders gently curling around it. He looked back up at her and she smiled softly.

"I'm sure they're fine, they were far away from any fighting and I'm sure they know how to care for themselves."

Spyro gave a small shiver of delight as he relished to contact between them. Slowly he shuffled closer to her, trying to make it look like he was adjusting his position, dropping his head in a slight embarrassment. He heard the faintest giggle from Cynder but suddenly she said.

"It's funny, for years I've tried running. Then when we were bound together I was so desperate to get free and just fly away... now look at me."

Spyro grinned slightly and looked up at her to see her blushing slightly. Spyro laughed slightly and said in a jokey voice.

"Is that a blush I see? The great and powerful Cynder is actually blushing? Time really have changed."

As soon as Spyro said it Cynder's grew even brighter and she dropped her head, looking away slightly. Spyro felt a broad grin spread across his face as he watched her act in such a cute manner. However when Cynder spoke her voice was quiet and serious.

"Every other dragon out there hates me or just wants to mate with me and leave, it makes me feel worthless and like i'm nothing. You actually make feel like I belong somewhere, like I matter. Even when we were small, and yet I still ran away... and I feel so stupid for doing so."

Cynder's head remained low, but Spyro gave her tail a small squeeze and she looked back up at him. Spyro could see a tiny sparkle in her eyes as they reflected the moonlight and he couldn't help but feel another burst of passion for for. Slowly, Spyro took a deep breath and he steeled himself, now was the moment.

"Cynder, there's a reason why I always try to make you feel happy... the whole time I was chained to you, the reason why I saved you from convexity, the reason why I chased after you when you ran away, I didn't understand it then but..."

He trailed of and gulped again. Cynder's eyes were wide and she stared at him with a face full of hope. Spyro took a deep breath and said quietly.

"Cynder... i've wanted to say this for so long now... I love you."

There was a moment of silence as when Spyro said it. Slowly, Cynder leaned in and said in barely more than a whisper.

"I've dreamt of you saying that... and i've dreamt of doing this."

Slowly she leant in more, and pressed her lips to Spyro's. Time seemed to stand still, the moment frozen. Spyro couldn't quite believe it. But slowly he began to kiss her back, a gleeful sensation sweeping through him. Their tail wrapped even tighter around each other and Spyro pulled Cynder closer to him, the whole time their lips connected.

Spyro mind went into shut down, the only thing he was able to comprehend was the black dragoness, and that was fine with him. Slowly they broke apart and rested heads against each others a foolish grin on each of there faces.

"I love you Spyro... I always will"

Cynder said quietly, her voice full of compassion. Spyro just whispered back to her in a happy voice.

"At least I didn't need to recite poetry to get the most beautiful dragoness in warfang."

Cynder giggled once more, and she moved her head away, so she could face him. Subconsciously, they leant together once more, pulling each other into another kiss. Spyro slowly leant back until his head hit the grass. They broke apart once more and Cynder rested her head underneath his, her arms wrapping around him.

"I'm never going to run again, Promise me that you'll never leave me"

Cynder said quietly, Spyro just chuckled to himself and gave cynder's tail another affectionate squeeze.

"I've never let you go before, why would I stop now or anytime?"

Cynder nuzzled Spyro's chest quietly before saying in a hushed voice.

"Thank you... I love you Spyro."

"I love you too Cynder."

Spyro said quietly in response, before leaving them in a blissful silence. Neither of them wanting to spoil the moment, each just content with being in the other's arms.
