Dark Angel Finale
#11 of Dark Angel
Silnis
*****
The journey back home wasn't all that difficult or slow. Kain and I were so eager to return home that we sprint half-way here. I've never had this much energy in me before, but it amazing! I wondered, with this much energy I could probably cast more spells with greater power! The thought of it gave me the urge to try it, but other things were on my mind. We were just on the outskirts of Unity, the gentle breeze blowing through our fur. I had my hand in Kain's as we stared below at our home. Everything was just as it was before, at least to my memory.
"Are you nervous?" Kain asked me.
"I'm not sure how my father's going to react to my...new body," I wondered, squeezing Kain's hand for comfort. I felt him give me a small kiss to my cheek before nuzzling me.
"I'm sure he won't mind. As long you're alive and safe then my guess is that he won't care," he reassured me. I gave him a small smile, hugging him.
"You're always there for me aren't you," I said.
"I'll always be there for you no matter what, I promise," he said, petting my head. Walking through the streets, I found it odd that no one was out on the street. It was noon and it would usually be busy on the streets with people going about their business. I had this ominous feeling that would constantly poke me at the back of my head.
"Kain...something's not right here...," I told him, moving closer to him.
"I know...I sense it too," he said, moving an arm around me. We continued walking until I heard a small whimper from an alleyway.
"Kain...someone's in there," I said, looking at the dark alleyway. Kain went with me as I slowly made my way through the alley, a ball of fire dancing in front of me to light my way. I reached the end of the alley and heard the whimper more clearly now, the source coming from behind a pile of crates.
"Is anyone there? We're not going to hurt you," I called out, moving each crate out of the way until I saw a small wolf pup curled up and crying. He saw me and backed off into the wall, afraid of me. "It's all right little one. Are you okay?" I moved the last crate out of the way and reached out for him when he bit me. I jumped back and tripped over a crate behind me, my head and fingers in pain. The pup saw Kain and his eyes immediately shot open as he jumped on him and buried his face into Kain's fur.
"Kain...you're back! These bad humans came and...took everyone into...the square. My mommy...and daddy...never came back...please save them," the pup said in between sobs, obviously knowing Kain. I healed my bleeding fingers and my aching head with magic before walking over to Kain and the pup, cautious not to invade the pup's space. He looked no older than seven, eight at the most, and his fur was a mix of brown and white.
"Lucas, it's going to be all right, but apologize to Silnis first. You should know better than to bite people who are trying to help you," Kain scolded, facing the pup towards me. He kept squirming in Kain's arms, avoiding eye contact with me.
"It's all right Kain. As long as he's okay than there's no apology needed, but what did he say? I heard him say some bad humans came and took everyone into the town square. You don't think...," Both Kain and I had the same dreadful thought, Drake had come back.
"Lucas, can you tell me what the bad humans looked like?" Kain asked for me, knowing I won't an answer out of him.
"They were covered in metal and had a shiny picture on them. One of the bad human was wearing a crown and looked like he was looking for something," Lucas explained, sniffling. Suddenly, a scream echoed from nearby before cries could be heard. I placed a hand on Kain before teleporting all three of us on top of the nearest rooftop, using a good amount of my energy. We jumped from roof to roof until we arrived at the town square, a horrible event occurring before me.
"Tell me!! Where are Silnis and that black wolf!!" Drake yelled at a male cheetah, his sword at the cheetah's throat.
"I...I don't know!" the cheetah answered. Drake gave a frustrated shout before beheading the cheetah without hesitation. He turned to a post where my father was tied and looked severely beaten, barely conscious.
"You better tell me where your son is before every last citizen in this town is dead!! Where is he damn it!!" Drake shouted, looking wildly around him.
"He's in a faraway place where you'll never get your hands on him. You don't deserve him. He'll be happier with Kain and away from you," my father muttered, smiling at the thought. Drake looked annoyingly at my father and ordered the next victim to be brought out. A male lion was pushed roughly out as a woman screamed out for him, pleading for Drake to have mercy. I recognized the lion and woman as Mr. and Mrs. Dumont, horror on my face.
"You'll tell me where Silnis and that black mutt went or I'll kill you just like the rest of them," Drake threatened, pointing to a pile of countless bodies in the fountain. My heart froze at the sight of all those bodies lying lifeless in the fountain; many who I knew.
"You don't deserve him you piece of trash. He's better off with Kain than a royal scumbag like you," Mr. Dumont said, showing no fear in his eyes.
"Fine...more fuel for the fire then," Drake said, laughing wickedly. He raised his sword and was going for the killing blow when I teleported next to Mr. Dumont and pushed him out of the way, Drake's blade sticking into the ground. Everyone gasped as they saw me, a stranger to them, save Mr. Dumont from getting killed. I drew my daggers and cut his ropes, telling him to return to Mrs. Dumont. He gave me an odd look before running back into Mrs. Dumont's arm, a short yet happy reunion. Kain jumped from a rooftop and next to me, Lucas hanging on to his neck. Drake's eye went wide as he recognized Kain, pulling his sword out.
"You're the mutt who mated with Silnis! You'll tell me where he is or I'll kill you!" Drake threatened, moving slowly towards us. Several archers readied their bows in case we decided to try anything fishy.
"He's not with me anymore. We went our separate ways after a fight between us. My guess is that he went looking for you and should be in your kingdom by now," Kain lied, keeping the truth a secret. I saw that Drake believed it, too desperate to find me that he would believe anything that Kain said.
"Found yourself a new bitch I see! How unfortunate that you choose this mongrel over Silnis. Oh well, you deserve such trash anyways," Drake laughed amusingly. I could tell Kain was irritated at what Drake was calling me, but I found it funny how Drake was so gullible.
"Mommy! Daddy!" Lucas shouted wriggling out of Kain's arms and running towards his parents.
"Lucas, wait!!" I shouted, lunging at him just as several arrows whistled past us. I put up a barrier just in time as several more arrows bounced off, revealing my secret. Drake had heard my voice and saw my act of magic, a look of pure rage in his eyes.
"You...monster...what did you do to Silnis!!" Drake shouted, lunging at Kain with his sword. I dispersed my barrier and quickly got Lucas to his parents, then turning my attention to the guardsmen surrounding the town square. Now was a good time to try out some new spells. A summoning circle appeared in front of me and I tossed a handful of rocks in before chanting my spell.
"Terra, Mother of the Earth, grant me the guardians of the mountains. Let their every blow shake the ground as they crush my enemies beneath their feet. I summon the mighty beasts, golems!" The rocks in the summoning circle shook and grew until they were the size of large boulders, then they grew arms and legs, finally red eyes poked out from their faces, creating golems. The golems got to work quickly as they split up and trampled guard after guard. I had to feed these golems with my energy, which was tiring as I had summoned about nine of them. I went over to my father and cut his ropes loose, him collapsing in my arms.
"It's okay father. I'm back now. Everything's going to all right," I reassured, healing his wounds and putting him to sleep. I looked over to where Kain and Drake where to see them gone. Where did they go! I laid my father on the ground and went searching after them, trying to find Kain's scent. As I looked frantically for Kain, I heard someone call out my name weakly from behind a bush.
"Kain...is that you!?" I ran over to the voice and suddenly froze. I was stuck...how! I moved my eyes down and saw a glyph that I had stepped on. A trap! A black wolf stood up from the bushes and his flesh began falling off until a human stood there, smiling wickedly at me. Illusion magic...I should've known. Several more mages surrounded me and started to chant a spell, one that I knew and didn't like.
"No...not that spell! Kain! Kain!" I shouted in my head before blacking out.

I kicked Drake into the cathedral door, him breaking through and rolling to the steps of the altar. I stepped through the door and walked casually to him, my sword dragging across the marble floor. He slowly got up to his feet and looked me in the eyes, nothing but rage.
"Silnis...is mine. I...deserve him...not you!" Drake shouted, wiping away blood from his mouth.
"Silnis is devoted to me as I am to him. Nothing will break our bond, not even you," I said, looming over him.
"You think your bond is so strong? We'll see how your bond stays after he's done with you," The door was suddenly burst open and Silnis stood there, flames running up his arms.
"Silnis?" He charged at me, daggers drawn, and I blocked his attack. I suddenly felt my legs grow cold and saw ice crawling up my legs. "Silnis get a hold of yourself! What's wrong with you!?" I pushed him back and looked back at Drake who was laughing like a maniac.
"What did you do to him!" I demanded, grabbing Drake by the collar.
"Soon he'll kill you and be with me, my lovely angel. We'll live happily together and he'll be mine, all mine!" he said, laughing evilly. I've had enough of this lunatic. I threw him on the ground and raised my sword when it was shot out of my hand and I felt a sharp pain from behind. Silnis had come up from behind me and stabbed me when I was busy with Drake.
"Don't you dare lay a finger on him!" he warned, sliding his daggers out and kicking me to the side. "Kain are you okay!?" I couldn't believe what I was seeing! Silnis had Drake's head lying on his lap while healing his wounds.
"Silnis, we're finally together, my love," Drake said, smiling gleefully at him.
"What do you mean? We've always been together silly," Silnis corrected him; still oblivious that he was Drake.
"Silnis...what are you doing?!" I asked, getting up to my knee.
"Stay away Drake!" Silnis warned, throwing one of his daggers into my shoulders. I cringed at the pain, but I was more focused on Silnis than my wounds.
"He isn't...Kain! I'm Kain! Drake did something to you Silnis!" I tried to convince him but only got pushed back by an energy bolt.
"I don't want to kill you Drake so just go away and leave us alone, forever!" Silnis warned, giving me a deathly glare. I wasn't to give up on Silnis and walk away while Drake was having his dream come true. I slowly made my way to Silnis, a growl coming from him.
"Silnis...I won't give up on you! I'll convince you...until I die! I'd rather die trying...to get you back...then walk away and abandon you!" I said, wincing from every step I took. "I promised you...that I...would never leave you alone...that we would always be together...no matter what!"
"Shut up!!" Silnis screamed, a strong gust of wind blowing me back. "All my life you've been nothing but a pest to me! You're always trying to get me back but I don't love you! I love Kain not you!" Spears of ice formed out of the air and impaled themselves into me, summoning all my strength just to hold on a little longer.
"I...love you too...Silnis...and that's why...I'm going to get you back...no matter what," I choked out, coughing out blood. Drake suddenly grabbed Silnis and pulled them in for a kiss, our eyes meeting.
"Give up and die already. I've won and you lost. There's no point in going on," No...I refuse to accept death...not again. I have to...stay strong...for Silnis. Suddenly, a high-pitch scream rang out from Silnis, covering my ears as I saw the marking on his head move. The chains binding the triangle shattered and waves of energy poured out, sending images to my head. No...these were memories from Silnis' past mixed with his recent ones! His memories were coming back to him! The scream ended as the last energy wave projected the last recent memory, him kissing Drake and realizing that it wasn't me. Silnis then collapsed to the floor, both Drake and I recovering from the scream.
"Silnis, answer me!" Drake cried, holding him in his arms. His eyes slowly opened and at the sight of Drake, Silnis kicked him in the face and backed off.
"Drake...what...what's going on!" He bumped into me and saw my bloodied body, screaming in horror as I collapsed in his arms. "Kain, what happened to you!? Say something!?"
"I'm...glad...you're back. I was...worried...that you would...be stuck thinking that...Drake was me...for the rest of your life," I said, smiling as his tears fell onto my face.
"I...did this didn't I? I'm so sorry Kain. I'll heal you again, just like before. I don't care if I have to lose my memories again, just as long as I can be with you," Silnis cried, holding my hand as he wept. We heard a bottle crash and looked up to see Drake had drunk a green liquid that smelled of poison.
"If I can't have you in life, then I can have in death! Join me in hell Silnis!" Drake shouted, charging at him with his sword. I used the last of my strength and pushed Silnis out of the way, putting myself in the sword's path. This is for you Silnis.

*****
I watched in horror as Drake's sword went right through Kain's chest, piercing his heart. Kain gave me one last look before falling to the floor, my heart stopping. This couldn't be happening, no! This has to be all a nightmare! I'm still asleep in a bed at the academy! I haven't woken up yet! This couldn't be happening!!
"KAIN!!!!" I cried, rushing over to him and turning his body over. He has be to alive! He just has to! Drake loomed over me, pointing his sword at me as the poison started to take effect.
"Join me...Silnis. We can...live in hell...together. Forever...happy...and together," Drake said, raising his sword when I felt my body go rigid.
"Carlos...I will have revenge!!" Alexander took control over my body and lunged at Drake, pinning him to ground.
"Alexander...," I said.
"Don't stop me!" Alexander said, growling ferociously at Drake.
"Don't hold back. Do what you wish with him," I said, not regretting that this would be a death that I intended.
"With pleasure," Alexander grinned, clawing savagely at Drake until his face was bloodied and showed only his skull. I took control over my body and went over to Kain, sensing some life in him.
"Kain...," I said, holding him in my arms. He coughed out blood before looking at me, the life fading slowly in his eyes. He reached out a hand and brushed the tear from my eye, softly caressing my cheek.
"Shh...it's okay love. I would gladly...give my life to see you...safe and...away from...Drake's hands," Kain said, our hands locked together.
"But I can't see you go like this...not now. We could've done so much more together. We could've lived in our home without having to fear about danger. We could've adopted some children and raised them. We could've been happy together now," I said, fighting back tears. Kain gave me a smile before pulling our faces together for a last kiss, this one passionate and deep like no other kiss in this world. Tears were pouring down my face and wetting my fur as the kiss lasted until I felt Kain go limp in my arms.
"Kain...Kain!! No, don't leave me please!! Please, you can't leave me here all alone!! You can't leave me alone...after all we've been through," I was crying my heart out when I heard a low ringing noise coming from near me. I looked down at my arms and saw my spiral markings were glowing pure white, feeling warmth from them.
"What's...going on here?" I asked myself.
"The Life Flow, able to grant or take life. You could use this to...return Kain back to life again," Alexander suggested.
"No...he wouldn't have wanted me to sacrifice myself just for his own sake. But maybe...," I heard footsteps entering the cathedral and looked back to see my father.
"Father...I,"
"It's okay Silnis...I know," he said, smiling at me.
"I know it's selfish of me Father, but my life here has no purpose if Kain is gone. I'd be alone and empty for the rest of my life. I can't be anything without him," I said, my head hung low.
"All I want for you is to be happy son. I know that Kain would've wanted you to be happy too so I'm not going to stop you from making your decision," I gave him a hug, knowing that I won't be able to see him for a long time.
"Goodbye father, I love you,"
"I love you too son," I gave him one last hug before going over to Kain, my marking pulsing like a heart.
"It needs a price for you to use it. What are you going to sacrifice?" Alexander asked.
"I sacrifice my life to save those whose time was not yet to come," I offered, feeling the pulse in my marking beat faster.
"But you can only use the Flow of Life on one person! You aren't going to...,"
"That's right. I also sacrifice my magic to amplify the effect of the Flow of Life to everyone who died. May my life bring joy and harmony to this town, forever and always," My marking burned as I could feel my magic being drained into it, powering it. Raising my hands into the air, the marking detached themselves from my hand and formed into orbs, flying out of the cathedral and around the town. Those who died from Drake were brought back to life from the touch of the orbs, reunited with their loved ones. Now was my time to reunite with the one I loved most as I felt my life slowly slip away, a warm smile on my face.
As the last orb formed and flew out of my hand, I collapsed to the floor, knowing that my past sins had been atoned, but all except one. I had wanted Drake's death and allowed Alexander to kill him. That was a sin that would tarnish my white wings and stay with me forever. I would no longer be a pure white angel with his sins all atoned, I would be the black angel who would always have my sin haunting me forever.
I would be...
A Dark Angel.
