Through the eyes of the Midnight Blue Dragon - Part 8

**********

I awoke with a smile on my face. The events of yesterday seeming to be only half-real, yet the feeling of last night still fresh in my head. I rolled out of the bed and stood up. I saw Rasani sleeping peacefully on the bed and smiled even wider. How I loved this dragoness! She looked so cute, lying there with a slight grin on her face. I looked around the room and noticed that it was Rasani's, not mine. I walked over and stood in front of the mirror to see what the last eight days had done to me. I saw that I had grown a foot taller and was more muscled. The most shocking things that I noticed were the look of grim determination on my face and the sureness of my steps. It was like my entire body and soul had been transformed by the events of the last eight days.

I felt a pair of clawed hands reach around my neck and begin to gently caress my body. I spun around suddenly, and before she could react, planted my muzzle on Rasani's, kissing her passionately. Her and my tongues fought to drive the other into submission. Rasani sighed happily and leant back; long lines of saliva still connecting her muzzle with mine. She rested her head on my shoulder and I picked her up and carried her out of her room, down the stairs and over to the dining room. It was strange for me, being accepted into this family after only nine nights of living with them.

I began to think about how I was going to deal with my long list of enemies, especially the Black Guardians. I knew that today was probably going to be the last day that I could spend with Rasani before the Crusaders sent me on the mission into the Black Guardian's base.

I pondered the reasons behind this 'Clan War' and what drove them to kill each other and thousands of innocents in their struggles. It seemed to me that these dragons had taken something that was better left as a legend, and warped it to suit their own purposes. Why they needed Stormsun to be resurrected, I had no idea, but I was prepared to stop the Black Guardians from accomplishing it with whatever means necessary, as long as it stopped short of surrendering my, or someone else's, life.

Rasani and I headed down the stairs and walked into the library, where Bertain and Cynda were sitting on a couple of the couches. They looked up as we entered and smiled.

'Here's the newly weds.' Cynda said happily as she stood up, walked over and embraced us.

Once Cynda had released us, Rasani and I walked over to one of the couches and sat down.

'I hope that you are still able to help me out today Darkstar.' Bertain said.

'Of course, what is it that you need?' I asked him.

'There are some things that I need to collect from the Training grounds. I do not particularly want to get captured again, so I am going to need an escort, as these items are very valuable to many dragons.' He replied.

I nodded my head, wondering what the items were.

I turned my head and looked at Rasani. She was looking at me with a slight frown on her face.

'What is it, love?' I asked her.

Rasani shook her head as if to clear her mind and smiled at me. 'Oh, it's nothing really.' She replied.

I smiled back and kissed her.

Bertain and I left the house minutes later and headed down towards the Training ground. I felt safer and more comfortable with my Dragonblade strapped to my back. It was almost an essential part of me, an extension of my hand. I strode down the streets confidently, with Bertain at my side, constantly glancing at side-streets and alleys, as if he was expecting an attack to come any second. I did not accuse him of being over-cautious, because if these items that he was going to get were as valuable as he reckoned they were, the Black Guardians would more than likely want them.

Suddenly, as we were nearing the Training ground, I shivered as a painful shock ran down my back. My vision went black for a moment and when I could see again, I was standing in the middle of a large field. There was a lake right next to me and I stared at it, trying to work out where the hell I was. The field was unfamiliar and I had no idea where to go.

I spread my wings, looked around once more, and took off to scout the land from the skies. From up here, it looked as if the field went on forever, there was no real escape. I saw a glimmer of light in the lake, so I dived towards it. The water felt cool and welcoming against my scales and I went deeper and deeper, trying to find the source of the small light.

What I found both shocked and excited me. It was an ancient temple of sorts. Instead of being devoted to the Dragon God, this one was an abomination. The dragons who visited it all worshipped Kaos, the most evil dragon ever born. Kaos had caused the death of millions and had stolen the thrones from the kings who each ruled their own continent. Kaos had proclaimed himself king of all dragons and no one had the power to defy him. His rule was short, but terrible. Many died and it was only thanks to Kaos's cousin that he died. His cousin had simply walked up behind Kaos one day while he was giving a speech, and stabbed him in between his wing-joints with a Dragonblade. Kaos's last words had been; "I shall rise again, be sure of that!"

I just stared at the temple, too overcome with shock to do anything, when I noticed a small inscription on the side of the temple. It looked like it was forged with magic, as it glowed an eerie green colour.

Simply supreme, Kaos, king of all dragons rules evil far above our world tonight and every night. He is an immortal beast, who stalks his prey, the other who cannot die. And this is how it has been since the dawn of time, a Dragon Fury war. They are the ancient beasts that occupy the high above, one good and one evil. They shall descend from above... and we will be waiting. For if these beasts descend onto our land, havoc shall rise and the lands shall become a wasteland. We have to stop these beasts from destroying everything by removing the bodies in which they shall occupy. To fail to do so will mean the death of all and the reign of Kaos and Havok.

I felt a force pushing me upwards, and I was propelled out of the water. I landed heavily on the shore of the lake, my face half-buried in the mud. I blinked and saw two large, silver dragon legs right in front of me. Looking up, I saw the same silver dragon that I had fought in my dreams. He was glaring at me and I slowly got to my feet and faced him. I could feel the dark energy emanating from his body, and it scared me.

God, how am I supposed to fight this? It is overwhelming! I thought to myself, appalled at the sheer ferocity of the power.

'I am coming for you, Darkstar. You shall learn to fear me and mine as we fight it out once more.' He growled at me.

Fight it out once more? What did he mean? Who the hell is this damn dragon anyway? I asked myself.

I just stared at the dragon and was about to answer when a large shock ran through my body, enveloping me in pain. I could hear the silver dragon laughing at me.

I closed my eyes to shut out the world and the pain. I felt a sudden lurch and then there was nothing, no pain, no laughter, nothing. I slowly opened my eyes and almost fainted. There were two heads hovering closely over mine, studying my face. As my vision cleared and sharpened, I saw that it was Avyn and Bertain. I sighed heavily and they drew back.

'Welcome back, Darkstar.' Bertain said.

'We thought that we had lost you forever. And yet, this is not the first time you have scared me like this.' Avyn said softly.

'What are you on about?' I asked.

'You have been unconscious for almost two hours.' Bertain explained. 'When you first fell to the ground, outside the Training ground, I carefully picked you up and carried you here. Since then, Avyn and I have been watching over you, waiting for you to regain consciousness.'

I sat up slowly and looked around. I got up and almost fell down again, my legs felt rather weak. I groaned with the effort it required to stay on my two feet. Slowly, I regained my balance as my legs regained their strength. I glanced around and saw my Dragonblade lying on the floor close by. I took a few steps over and picked it up. Strapping it back on my back, I turned and faced Bertain and Avyn.

'My vision, it all seemed so real... I had no idea what was going on... I can only just remember what happened. Something about a temple under the water, the Dragon Demon, a prophecy of sorts and a large silver dragon with a shocking message... but it is all fading rapidly from my mind, I cannot seem to hold on to an image.' I murmured as I tried to remember the vision.

They both just stared at me and I knew that they had no real idea on what I was on about.

I shrugged and looked at Bertain. 'Are we still going to get these items soon?' I asked him.

'Wha...? Err, yes, well actually, I've already got them. I was just waiting here for you to regain consciousness so we could get back to the house.' He replied.

I nodded my head and took a couple of steps forward. My legs still felt rather weak and I stumbled a bit. I slowly made my way forward, leaning on objects to take the weight off my feet. I had no idea why they were so numb, but I knew that it had something to do with the strange vision I had.

I began pacing around the room, deep in thought, with both Bertain and Avyn's eyes following my every step. I was trying to hold onto the memories of the vision, but I could only catch brief glimpses of what had happened. It was as if someone, or something, was trying to erase the memories from my head. I could remember the evil power that came from the silver dragon and a glimpse of the temple, but everything else was a haze.

I turned towards Bertain. 'Can we leave soon? I need to think this over and rest. My head is spinning and I feel like something is not right.'

He nodded his head and I turned to look Avyn in the eyes. 'Thank you for everything you have done for me over the past few days, Avyn. I will never forget it.' I placed a slight emphasis on the word "everything" and hoped that Bertain did not catch my meaning of it.

Avyn grinned slightly as I walked past her and towards the door. Bertain quickly left the room and I was just about to follow him, when I felt a slap on my ass. I turned around and Avyn winked at me, before closing the door.

Bertain and I left the Training ground and headed back towards the mansion. I walked behind him, still deeply lost in thought. As we turned the last corner and were approaching the Kermani Mansion, I felt a set of claws grab my shoulders, wrap around my muzzle and pull me back. I could not yell out to Bertain so he was oblivious to my struggle. The last thing I saw before I fell unconscious, was Bertain reaching the mansion and turn around, looking for me.

I slowly opened my eyes as I regained consciousness. I groaned as pain shot through my body. I was in a cell of some sort and there was a black dragon out the front, staring at me.

'Hey, Jarc, looks like this one is finally awake. What should we do?' The dragon turned to speak with someone else.

'I shall inform Nirilana immediately. She wanted to know when the bastard awoke.' I heard the other dragon reply.

I groaned again and closed my eyes. I cursed myself for letting me get so distracted that I lost my sense of danger. Had I not been concentrating so hard on that vision, I would have picked up the dragons following me and dealt with them properly. But, because I lost myself in thoughts, I was locked up in this cell, waiting for this Nirilana, whoever she was.

I must have fallen asleep, because I was awoken by the sudden grating of the hinges as my cell door opened.

The black dragon I saw earlier walked in and he was accompanied by a large red dragon with evil green eyes.

'Welcome, Darkstar, to the Hornet's Nest, heart of the Outer Sanctum. Here lies the only entrance to the Inner Sanctum and here also lies your doom. Our leader, the great Nirilana, Queen of the Underworld, would like to speak with you.' Said the red dragon as he lifted me up and half-dragged me from the cell.

The dragon walked through many passageways, dragging me behind him. I had a sudden premonition that I was to meet more than just this Nirilana here; I was to meet something much, much more deadly and powerful. I shuddered slightly and tried to jump up onto my feet so that I would not have to be humiliatingly dragged everywhere. The red dragon, Jarc, felt this and stopped so that I could stand properly.

'As much as I hate the fact, you are to be treated with a slight amount of respect.' He growled at me.

Jarc let go of my arm and stood behind me.

'Now move forwards.' He said and gave me a shove between my wings.

I slowly started walking forwards, and the feeling of dread started getting stronger with every step that I took. Very soon, Jarc and I were facing a giant set of wooden doors. Jarc walked up to them and knocked three times. The doors slowly opened and I had to close my eyes as the light poured out of the room and blinded me.
