Never Sleep
I lie awake all hours of the night
Watching the contours of your face
Looking for movement, looking for change
Staring at this picture in my hands,
Willing it to move
Pleading it to dance before my eyes
The same way we dance in my dreams.
Though my attempts are futile,
I try every night, relentless.
I grit my teeth, and plead once more,
Knowing it falls upon nothing more than pigment on paper.
How you have enchanted my heart
Sweet love of mine.
I lie awake, and count the hours,
Begging and pleading for signs of life.
This paper hath enraptured me,
And I fear I shall never sleep.
