Unexpected Consequences Ch. 1
Well, this is the start of something I am working on, just typed it up tonight, havent even ran it through spell check yet or read it to see if it makes sense. I felt I should post it before I chicken out and never do anything with it. So please ignroe any spelling/grammer/continuity mistakes. I know it says three chasing him in the begining, but i changed it to two for writing purposes. Thank you for taking the time to read my first written submission to this site.
*Edit note: Should be all cleared up, if I missed anything, please tell. I dont really see anything else, but im only human, and can miss things. *
And now. On with the Show.
The fox perked his ears, hearing something for a moment that sounded like footsteps for a moment. He knew what it was. They were after him. He felt it in his bones, he knew what he had done. He had thought himself to be something of a hero, stealing from the wealthy and giving to the poor. Like some kind of folk hero. That's what he had thought he was, and would be doing. He hadn't realized how idealized those stories were, here he was running from an enemy he hadn't seen. He knew if he stopped to turn, even for a moment they would be on him. It was a one of the nobles hunting squads. Excellent trackers they were, and light on their feet, as any feline should be. He looked down realizing the leathers he was wearing was now inadequate for fighting this . He knew that going in, he didn't think he would be caught. He felt the sword bang against his hip.
Crack! he heard as a tree branch snapped back into place, he felt something wrap around his ankle and hoist him up in the air. His body began to react on its own as his reflexes kicked in and he twisted, grabbing at his sword cutting the rope that had bound him. He was glad for that, surprised that he had managed to do that at all. He landed with a tumble, rolling into a sprint to try and regain any ground that he had lost. He looked up above the tree line as he headed towards the mountains, once he got there, he felt he might have an advantage, he was a skilled climber. He ran as fast as he could, hearing no other signs that the team was following him, but he knew they were, they didn't let anyone escape while in the forests.
Time escaped him, he knew that it was passing but he didn't have a clue how long he had been running, far enough to where he couldn't hear the bell calling the hours. The mountains were close now. They seemed almost on top of him. He was comforted by them, they meant freedom, stopping would mean death. He stopped for a moment to catch his breath after crossing a river when the repercussions of these deeds had started to show by causing a rumbling in his stomach.
He felt sick, he was close, so close he jogged as he fumbled blindly into his bag as he felt what he was looking for, a small loaf of bread he had managed to keep for himself while distributing the food among the serfs of that nobles village. He at it on the go, stuffing chunks into his mouth, breathing though his nose, the bread settling his stomach as he moved from river to river hoping to lose them in it.
He smiled as he finally reached the base of the mountain, suppressed to see a sheer flat surface rising 50 feet in front of him. He fell on his knees, his body having been pushed past its limits, this setback being too much for him. He heard splashing behind him, the group finally catching up to him. HE stood, his body shaking as it burned the last of his adrenaline to they and have him fight off the group. HE drew the small sword that was more for decoration then purpose, he knew how to wave it around all flashily but that was about it. He didn't know any techniques with the weapon.
The two felines looked at the fox laughing at his stance. A salt and peppered tabby drew an arrow as she aligned the shot to kill, The next, also a tabby but a bright orange color, pulled out vials, preparing to throw them it would seem.
The one with the vials, pure black, raised its ears and tail as he spoke.
"You have a choice here. Surrender to us, and drink this vial, and you will be granted a trial. If you don't, We will let our sister kill you where you stand. Its your choice."
The fox just spat at them. "I..." He looked like he was about to tell them what he had felt about the situation when he fell foreword his body blacking out having burned too much energy in the day to go on any longer. The two smiled as the salt and pepper tabby lowered her arrow.
"That was easy brother, Your doing?"
"No Jenny, I didn't do it, I think his body wasn't prepared to run for as long as he did, He was a worthy opponent. He kept us running for some time. I had expected this to be a quick one."
Jenny sighed. "You shouldn't use my name, he could be faking it, waiting for us to show weakness brother"
"Your right sister, I apologies for my slip up. We need to get him bound and ready for transport. He never made his choice, We should build a fire and set here until he awakens, would you mind going and getting something to eat for us while I get a fire built?"
Jenny nods "You follow the code too well sometimes, I say we just bring him back now, We wouldn't kill him either way even if he chose death. It doesn't matter."
Her brother shook his head. "It does matter, his choice will reveal his character to us and allow us to help him re-adjust to society."
