Prologue
#1 of The Pendant
Prologue
Disclaimer: This story is clean, but the main character is gay, and if you take offense to this fact, please don't read on. The characters in this story should not be used without my permission.
Well, this is just a small preview at what I'm thinking of writing, my old story went poof, so I won't be able to post that any more.
I'll be working on this more today, and might get another section of it done
I don't really have a title for this story that I'm making and this is just the prologue (or maybe the first chapter, I don't really care that much)
"I don't need you anyway!" screamed the panther, he slammed the door to his room shut, locked it, and started scooping up clothes and shoving them in a bag along with his most important possessions.
"Get back in here! Don't you walk out on me like that!" Roared the panther's father as he tried, to no avail, to open the locked door.
The panther said nothing, furiously shoving clothes into his bag and cursing his father under his breath. He shoved one last thing in the bag, took a look around to make sure he had everything, and opened his window. He jumped out onto the roof, preferring the dangers of falling off of the roof to facing his father a second time.
The panther, named Jack, climbed down on the side of the house, and stalked the streets. Jack's anger was like a brick wall, people avoided getting too close to the fur, preferring to keep their distance. Jack pulled out his wallet and looked at the contents, shit, with this little I'll last a day if I'm lucky. Jack didn't linger on the thought, there was no way he would go back into that house, welcome or not.
He walked through the streets, people parting slightly for him. The 19 year old panther had just finished getting his bachelors degree in a collage near his fathers house, he had gotten the degree earlier than anyone had ever heard of before, his teachers found him to be a genius and he skipped his entire middle school career, and blazed through high school with outstanding grades.
Jack's life had been going great, and he couldn't have had a more proud dad. That was until Jack's dad found out he was gay. Jack's dad didn't respond how Jack had hoped; instead, he responded with disappointment and said how he should be ashamed for not carrying on the family name and having kids.
Jack had dealt with it at first; his father hadn't kicked him out of the house, there was just the air of disappointment every time Jack walked into a room with the older panther. It had lasted for a year, until Jack got his bachelors degree. After that, his dad started trying to 'fix' him, taking him to physiologists that could 'help' him with his 'problem'; this was what set Jack off and made him leave on such a hasty note.
Jack had been so absorbed in his thoughts that when he saw one fur that didn't stray from his path, he didn't think twice, and bumped straight into the fur. When he felt his body hit something, he was shaken out of his thoughts and looked down at the fur he had almost run over, the anger surrounding him dissipated instantly upon seeing what he had done.
The fur lying on the ground was a white furred cat with a softly curved jaw, making his face almost completely feminine. The only dead giveaway that it was a male was the distinctly male voice that spoke out in irritation, "Hey what's the deal?" asked the cat as he looked up at the panther.
"Oh god, I'm sorry." Jack said, ashamed at himself for being so stupid. Jack stretched out his hand to bring the white cat back to his feet. Once the cat was standing again, he started to wipe off the slush that had once been fluffy white snow that had gotten on his well worn jacket.
"It's okay; really, I was just startled is all." The cat said, adopting a softer tone.
Jack was relieved, "I'm Jack, you want to grab a coffee or something, I can't just walk away from someone I just trampled without feeling like a total ass." He said to the cat.
"Why not, you don't seem like the asshole I thought you were at first." The cat said, elbowing Jack playfully, "Kidding." The cat said when he saw Jack's hurt expression, "Anyway, I know a good coffee place close by, so follow me."
Jack stumbled after the cat, and barely kept up with the cat's fast pace. When he saw the cat disappear into a shop to his right, he sped up and walked in as well. After the loud shuffling of feet and bustle of the street, the quiet coffee shop was an unexpected relief to his sensitive ears. He spotted the cat, who was already at a table, sitting alone and waiting for him. He walked over, and sat down next to the cat.
"I almost lost you there." He said, grabbing the attention of the cat, who seemed to be distracted.
"Sorry about that, I just don't like being in the streets, too loud." The cat responded.
"It's okay," Jack said, and finally noticed the empty coffee shop, "Where is everyone?" he asked, "This place seems like it should be full of people in the cold out there."
The cat just shrugged, "I dunno."
Jack suddenly realized that he didn't even know the cat's name yet, "Hey, what's your name? I didn't hear it."
"I never said it, but it's Grant."
"Well then, Grant, let's get the coffee then."
"Don't worry about the coffee; I'm not really in the mood for it any more." Grant said, "I'd much rather talk."
"Umm, okay."
"Get some coffee if you want it." Grant said.
Jack nodded, walked to the register, and ordered a coffee. He waited for a minute, and picked up his coffee, and walked back to the table Grant was sitting at. Grant was taking off his scarf, and pulling something from his pocket. It looked like a small sword on a chain.
"I've been looking everywhere for you, Jack." Grant said, suddenly the air in the room grew thick, and Jack felt a soothing feeling creep over him. The feeling kept spreading, relaxing his muscles
Jack was about to speak, when Grant shushed him, "If this pendant accepts you as its owner, I'll give you two choices." The words resonated in Jack's head, and he could no longer think clearly, wanting nothing more than to hold the pendant that was in Grant's paws. Grant reached his hand out, Jack doing so as well. When the pendant touched his fingers, sparks ran up his spine. The pendant was his; he could feel it deep in his bones.
The pendant suddenly started to swell in his hands, the chain starting to shrink, and the sword starting to expand in his fingers. The blade that had been dull moments ago became razor sharp. The hilt that he couldn't grasp with his fingers due to the size was suddenly a perfect fit for his hands.
Grant smiled, "So it has chosen you..."
Jack grunted, not comprehending anything going around him fully, as the sword whispered to him, whispers of the battles it had fought, and the battles to come. He couldn't possibly part with this pendant. Ever.
Suddenly, he felt the whispers fade, and the sword shrink in his hands, reverting back to its pendant form.
"I have a proposition for you, Jack, you can come with me and you can keep that pendant, and learn to use the power it holds. Or you can choose to give the pendant back, and go back to your normal life, forgetting everything that happened just now." Grant said.
Jack's throat was dry, along with his lips, and when he tried to voice his answer, it came out in a croak.
He took a sip of the coffee he had gotten earlier, making his dry throat slick again, and he said "I'll go with you."
"Fantastic! I knew you were the one!"
Well that's it, the next chapters / book things will be taking place at this mysterious place that Grant was talking about. This was extremely short (4 pages-ish) compared to what I usually do (7-11 pages-ish), and the next parts will most likely be my normal length.
If you spot any errors, please let me know, and as always, thanks for fav'ing, reading, watching, and everything else you furs do.
