Holiday Mini 1: Max and Trevor Take a Walk

#1 of Holiday Minis 2023

Here is the first of a few Holiday Minis. Just cute little Slice of Life stories of my characters enjoying the festivities.

This one is the first as it's probably the least Christmassy and chronologically furthest from the Holiday itself.

I have a few in mind. I'm hoping to get at least 3 out this year (More would be nice, though)

They will get a little spicy, though. But Trevor isn't really ready for that stuff yet, so this one is SFW.

If there is a story who's characters you wanna see in one of these, lemme know. I maybe already be writing them and I can prioritize that :3

This one will have a second part. Assuming I can pump these out fast enough.

Crescent Moon Bay, A Few Days Before Christmas

The sun was beginning to set over the horizon as the young mountain lion sat on the rocky shore, scribbling in his book. It wasn't much like the beaches to the south, but the endless pebbles were sometimes nice to look at. Though they had a tendency to get stuck between the beans of his foot paws. He wasn't as much of a surfer as the rest of the small group. He was fine staying on dry land, sketching the scenery as he sat near the small parking lot. There always seemed to be a bit of a delay between the time the light was gone and the time the lights in the lot would turn on. At the moment, he was finishing up a small portrait of the waves with his new friends surfing them. Out on the waves were Trevor, a deer, Kurt, the scrub-jay and Briana, a coyote.

The light was beginning to fade, bringing out a deep sigh from the cougar. Max put his pencil into his backpack, which he had laying on his skateboard. The sketches he kept out to show Trevor when they got out of the water. Trevor always seemed thrilled to see the progress of the drawings. He checked his watch, seeing that there was still half an hour or so before the lights in the lot and the pier would turn on. Behind him, a truck had just pulled up. The sound alone of the engine had the distinct.. something wrong with it that only Kurt's father, Nathan's truck could provide.

The truck flashed it's high-beams a few times before the jay inside cut the engine. With the tell tale squeak of Nathan's window opening, Max looked back at the truck. The bird at the wheel poked his head out of the car.

"Hey Max. Not too cold tonight, huh?" His beak clicked as he spoke.

Max shrugged, "It's not too bad. Ever get snow?" It was chilly, but nothing his fur couldn't help with. That and his hoodie.

The bird shook his head, "Not since, eh.." He scratched his neck, "Before I was even born?"

"Wow, that long ago?" Max said with a smirk.

"Har har!" Nathan said, "Might want to cover your ears" He gave a second before honking the horn.

In the distance, the surfers were riding their last wave of the night before coming back to land, walking towards the truck. Briana was the first to get to the car. The small group wasted little time in throwing their boards into the back of the jay's truck. Max was helped up by Trevor, the buck's antlers were still dripping from the water. The two looking at each other for a slightly awkward amount of time before returning their gazes towards the car. Max saw Kurt get into the truck first, Briana hopped into the back. The adult poked his head out again.

"Getting in?" Nathan said, starting the car.

"Actually, my dad is coming to get us." Trevor said, trying to hide himself blushing.

Nathan nodded, "Ah, alright. Need us a stay and wait?"

"No!" Trevor said, "We'll uh. We'll be fine."

Nathan squinted his beady eyes at the two, "Well, Okay. Be safe, you two."

"Always, see you guys tomorrow!" Trevor waved at the group.

"Yeah, see ya!" Max gave the group a wave.

The truck pulled out and left the parking lot, leaving to two alone for the time being. Trevor turned away from Max, pointing to the zipper on his wetsuit with his thumb.

"Can you unzip me, please?" Trevor said.

Max pulled the zipper down the deer's body, "Like this?"

"Woah, a little too far, I don't have anything on under this." Trevor said as Max go to his thigh.

"Oh, for a second I thought you were making a move." Max grinned, pulling it back up to Trevor's waist.

Trevor pulled his arms from the suit, "A creepy parking lot is the last place I want you to see me naked for the first time."

"What's the first place?" Max winked at the deer.

Trevor glared at the feline, "I didn't mean it like that!"

Max laughed, handing the deer the woolly denim jacket he'd been holding onto all day. The deer slipped it on, not bothering to put on a shirt under it, letting the top half of his wetsuit dangle in the air. The two of them looked over towards the pier as the lights on it started to turn on.

"Ever walk along the pier at night?" Trevor asked, starting to slowly meander towards it.

Max shook his head, grabbing his skateboard, "I haven't even walked it in the day."

"I have failed as your guide." Trevor said, grabbing Max's hand, "Lets go."

"What about your dad?" Max asked as the two walked along the small boardwalk.

"He's decided to be late."

"Did he put you up to this?"

Trevor shrugged, "He suggested propose here."

"Uh huh."

"Said it would be romantic."

"He said that?"

"Yeah, and the bathroom here has a killer gloryhole. We used to go all the time."

"Yeah, sounds like Hank."

"You think?"

"Oh this one! Yeah, He told me about this one already."

"Oh?"

"Yeah, last night we were cuddling, you know, after all the sex."

"Without me?" Trevor feigned being upset

"It was a school night, after all."

"Wait, shut up." Trevor stopped Max, placing his paw on the mountain lions chest.

"What is it?"

Trevor pointed towards the pier, "We're here."

The two stood at the start of the pier, it's wooden floor lit by tall lamps every ten or so feet. The pier was empty, it's last visitor left as they were teasing each other. There was a shack with windows. There was a small light on inside, but it was only there to shine on a "closed" sign. They walked past the threshold and a small sign that said the pier was closed. They looked it over, then to each other and shrugged, moving onto the pier.

As Max and Trevor walked down the length of the pier, they gravitated towards one another. Max felt his hand brush against the deer's a few times. Each time, they shrugged it off, separated momentarily until it happened again. Around the fourth or fifth time this happened, Max took the initiative and interlocked his hand with Trevor's. They held hands for the remainder of the walk to the edge, where a bench sat, overlooking the sea.

The sun had finished making it's way passed the horizon, leaving only the fainted amount of light over the edge of the world. The two set down, hand in hand. Neither of them acknowledged it for a while, they just sat in silence, watching the waves in the distance.

Trevor was the first to speak, "So uh, any family plans for Christmas?"

Max shrugged, "Not really, why?"

"Wait, your family isn't doing anything?"

"We don't usually, no."

"Why not?"

"Hanukkah?

"You're just fucking with me, aren't you." Trevor eyed the cougar suspiciously.

"No, seriously." Max rolled his eyes, "We had a whole thing and everything."

Trevor thought for a moment as the pieces fell into place in his mind, "So.." Trevor turned to look at Max more directly.

Max turned towards the deer, "So..?"

"Would you uh.." The deer blushed profusely, "Want to come to my place for Christmas?"

"Your dad wouldn't.." Max stopped himself, "Fuck am I saying, of course he'd be thrilled."

"Well it's just.." Trevor looked serious, "It's kinda just me and dad."

"Oh." Max frowned, giving the deer's hand a squeeze, "Hey, of course I'll come over."

"Really?" Trevor beamed, "That's awesome!"

"Couple things though."

"Hm?" Trevor cocked his head, some retained water still dripping off on of his antlers.

"Well." Max placed his backpack on his lap, opening it to show a wrapped gift, "I was gonna give this to you now, but I guess it will have to wait."

"No reason you can't do both." Trevor grinned.

"Greedy little deer, aren't ya?"

"What is the other thing, anyway?"

"Oh, yeah. That." Max blushed, "Well, I was thinking that um.."

Trevor raised an eyebrow, "Yes?"

"Well uh." Max scratched the back of his neck, "If I'm coming to your family thing for Christmas I think it would only be right if I came as.. Y'know.."

"Yourself?" Trevor looked at Max, eyes on his.

"As your boyfriend."

"Oh." Trevor blushed, "I yeah, of course. Wait really?"

"Yes?" Max said, pulling his hand slightly back only to realize their fingers were still interlaced. This only made him feel more bashful.

"No more pretending sleeping with my dad, though." Trevor said in a mocking tone.

"Oh fuck, nevermind. Deal's off."

"Hey, it's weird." Trevor laughed, "When your boy.." He stopped, his face twisting into a sort of deer in headlights look.

"You... Okay?"

"I just.." Trevor looked back towards the ocean, "Never heard myself say boyfriend out loud before."

"Well, it's not Christmas, so it's not like we're a thing yet."

"Shut up." Trevor nudged the feline.

"Should you tell your dad or should I?"

"That's we're like.. Official?"

"No." Max shook his head, "We're not inviting him into this."

"Fuck off."

"So he is invited?"

"I will throw you off this pier."

"And deprive your poor old dad his favorite fuck buddy?"

"Oh my god, shut up." Trevor rolled his eyes melodramatically.

Max laughed, "I guess me coming over for Christmas is gonna be pretty telling."

"Oh, I'm telling him like, the second we get in the car."

"He really did suggest you take me here didn't he." Max frowned

"Kinda?" Trevor laughed.

"Romantic place, it was a good plan."

"Changing your mind out of spite."

Max sighed, "No, I'd have asked you out eventually."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah." Max said, admitting defeat, "And we're all alone here."

"We are." Trevor grinned, leaning closer to the mountain lion.

"With no one to interrupt." Max leaned in.

The two stared into each other's eyes, their noses close enough to feel the heat of the other's snout. There was a tension in the air around them, their hearts were beating faster. The moment was finally upon them. They moved their heads into position and pressed their lips together. Closing their eyes, the world around them melted away as they kissed for the first time. It started as a peck, but as soon as it ended, it turned into something more. As soon as Max thought to be pulling back, his body reacted, pressing back against Trevor. His arms moved to the deer's furry sides, into the warmth of his jacket. Soon he was pulling the deer into the kiss. Trevor was a bit out of practice, but his passion was there in full force. They were making out in no time, their bodies melting into the kiss. The only thing that stopped them was the sound of Trevor's phone pulling them back into reality.

"Oh shit, my dad's here." Trevor said, looking over to the land where the parking lot beside the pier was.

"Think he saw us?" Max asked.

Parked in a spot just beside the pier was Hank's SUV. Lights on and steam from the engine rising high above it. As the two looked back towards it, the lights flashed off and on. Trevor's phone rang again, this time he pulled it from his jacket and put it against his face.

"Hey dad." He said into the phone.

"Yeah, we'll head right over." There was a pause, "Oh my god dad, stop!"

"Guessing he saw?" Max blushed.

Trevor nodded and covered the phone's receiver, "Wants to know if you'll spend the night."

"With him? Any time!"

Trevor brandished a finger and glared at the feline, "Yeah, well head right over." He said into the phone before handing up.

"Alright, let's go." Max said, standing up, holding his hand out to walk the deer over to the car.

Trevor was clearly nervous the whole walk to the car. Max tried to reassure him with occasional hand squeezes, but the deer was clearly in new territory. Max understood. Hank looked to be pretty protective of his son. Sure, he wants him to be happy, but dating is weird and things go from a fun idea to a reality real quick.

Max sat in the back while Trevor sat up front, trying to be subtle about their current situation. The two buckled up as the large buck turned his neck to face his son, eyes squinting slightly.

"So how-" He said before he was cut off by the younger deer.

"I invited Max to Christmas and he said he would if we were dating so now we're dating I think or at least for Christmas we didn't really talk it out but I thought you should know now before it was weird!" Trevor said in one breath.

"Oh." Hank nodded, "Okay." He turned to Max, "Any dietary restrictions? Kosher?"

Max shrugged, "Anything's fine. I don't really do the religious stuff."

"Works for me." Hank said, revving the engine, "You good, Trev?"

Trevor shrunk in his seat, "Yeah."

"Cool." Hank laughed, "You guys hungry?"

"Yeah." Max said, letting out a sigh as the car rolled back towards the road. Making their way towards the main street.
