Lucky Curse
Imported from SF2 with no description.
Tomorrow is my 18th birthday.
Living in my home feels like prison now. I can't relax at all as I think more about the kind of curse I will be getting soon. I hate myself for causing this tension on my family - tears would be shed, with either of us saying that everything will be fine even though we know that's just a blatant lie.
My father received a curse where he would have one day every month where he would get sick, forcing him to stay in bed throughout the day. My mother requires her to stay out of contact with the sunlight - any exposure to it would immediately cause her to faint. It always pains me that she has to take extreme measures to go outside now.
Of course, if you are lucky, you get some silly curses. One of my classmates has this condition where their skin color changes temporarily depending on what he eats or drinks. The coach has to drink a particular brew everyday, but he discovered that it's actually quite simple to make it and he only needs to take a sip to prevent the curse from activating.
As the clock approaches midnight, all three of us are hanging around in the living room. It's such a pain to see my parents' stares at me, thinking that I would just disintegrate as the clock hits 12. We all jumped as we heard the chime, and they immediately inspected me.
"Oh my God."
"How are you feeling?"
"Any fever?"
"Should we get you to the hospital?"
"Tell the school that you can't attend for a week?"
Trying to lift the mood, I assured the two of them. "Dad, Mom, I'm fine. See? Seems like I got lucky, I don't feel different. Let's rest up, all right? I think we all can relax with this good news." They look horrible, and I know I am too, since I don't think any of us had enough sleep this week.
Dad pats my shoulder, "You sure? You're not hiding anything from us, are you?" "I'm sure, Dad," giving them a smile that I hope looks genuine. Mom starts to cry happy tears, and the two of them enters their bedroom after giving me another hug. I'm sure they are immediately knocked out from the lack of sleep, since I did not hear any voices coming from their room.
I sighed, "Well, let's hope I'm right..." I scratched the itch on my left arm, and proceeded to enter my bedroom as well, locking the door. Feeling that the room temperature is a bit hot tonight, I opened the windows to let some air in. "Huh, I didn't realize there's a full moon tonight, it's so... pretty..."
Then, it all happened so fast. I feel pain all over my body. "NGH! Oh... oh no..." I fell on all fours, feeling the cracking bones and growing muscles. Fearing for the worst, I confirmed my fears as I see fur slowly covering my entire body, my nails becoming claws by the minute.
As I feel my ears getting longer, I realize that I can hear and smell so much more. I can feel a tail slowly forming, and I can see a snout slowly forming on my face. While the pain is still there, I admit that the rush of power is an interesting feeling to have as well. As the transformation ends, I howled at the moon and passed out from the changes soon afterwards.
Hours passed, and I woke up. "Ugh... what happened last night?" I tried to blink myself awake, as I stretched my body out of the bed. However, I froze the moment I realized that my body feels... different, and I held my breath as I saw my claws. "Oh no, no, no, it was real! What do I do now..." While I definitely felt the panic on trying to explain this to everyone, I also admit that it's so nice to look like this, feeling more powerful as well.
I jolted when I heard the knock on my door. "Son, how are you feeling?" I smelled my parents outside. I sighed, considering that this form seems permanent now, I decided to rip the bandage off and warn them before opening the door. "Mom, Dad, please don't panic, yeah?" I immediately smell the fear from them, "What happened to your voice? Oh no, it's the curse, isn't it!? Open the door now!"
"Promise me you won't scream." I opened the door, and their eyes bulged over seeing a towering beast in their son's room. "S-son, is that you in there?" "Yes, Dad, heh... Seems like this is my curse, I can... leave if you want."
I was ready to leap out of the window, before I realized the two of them hugging me. "Oh, son, I'm just happy you are safe." I feel tears forming in my eyes as I hugged them back. "I-I'm happy you accepted me, even looking like this. Mom, Dad, I love you." Even without my enhanced smell, I just know that all the stress has been lifted during that moment. No more speculating on the type of curse, just happy that our family is still intact. My tail wags furiously over this, and I sigh internally that I would need to keep my emotions in check from this point on.
