"True love is like ghosts, which everybody talks about and few have seen." - La Rouchefoucauld

It was another one of those days; the fresh winter air invited the noses of many despite the fact that it sent a chill up their spines, a strange yet pleasurable tingling sensation. The blue skies were filled with just enough clouds to make the day more beautiful as light from the sun reflected off of the sheet of snow which covered the ground, creating spectacular lighting outside. Although the song of the birds were long gone, the sounds of the young children who had woken up early to play outside in the snow before school could be heard, influencing a sense of joy in the hearts of everyone else who was waking up in the comfort of their beds, making them forget completely about needing to get ready for work or for school.

Among one of those who were getting out of bed was me, Brian. Although this is my life, my story, I wouldn't say that I was anyone 'special'. Sure, I have a great social life and many friends, many of what others would like to refer to as talents, and potential for great success in life, apparently, but I like to think of myself as any ordinary grey-furred wolf and one who smiles to an extent which makes it seem like it can become excessive.

As I sat up from lying down, I looked around my desk, bed, and floor. Textbooks, binders, papers, and random stationary equipment lay scattered all over my room.

It had been another long night last night rushing through homework, giving it a half-hearted effort just so I could get to bed before midnight. However, judging by the papers and textbooks still lying on my bed and some next to my pillow, I could only guess that I passed out trying to finish it all last night.

Letting out a long sigh, I swung my legs off the side of the bed and then got onto my feet, standing up to stretch my limbs out and yawn at the same time. Flicking my tail and letting it swish around loosely, I slowly stumbled over to the bathroom in my room, yawning again as I did.

Mornings were the time of day that I loved, but today was an exception. I was beyond tired from last night's homework and was reluctant to stay awake. I would much rather have collapsed on the floor on the way to the bathroom and just fallen asleep again, but I kept my eyes open and my mind conscious. Otherwise, my morning went fairly routinely - a quick and warm shower, brushing my fangs, heading downstairs for some self-made breakfast of eggs, sausages, and French toast.

By the time I had finished my morning rituals, I had to leave and catch the bus to school. Frantically searching for all the books and materials that I needed for today's classes, I quickly shoved them into my schoolbag, somehow managing to keep them organized, and rushed out the door with just a pair of khaki shorts, a black polo T-shirt, and my grey hoodie on.

Although I loved the cold, today's freezing air caused me to shiver and walk awkwardly as I power-walked to the bus whose doors were already swung open, waiting for just me and very few others who were running a bit late.

"Hey Simon," I said to the driver, a lion, while boarding the bus quickly, dropping my bag and sitting down on one of the seats behind him, next to a husky.

"And hello to you too, Darrien," I nodded and grinned at the husky who was struggling to stay awake while playing games on his iTouch.

"Hey Brian, how's it going?" Simon mumbled while half-asleep, resting his forehead on the top of the steering wheel.

Darrien responded with a grunt, too distracted by his game.

"Dare, you look dead," I said softly, "let's put the iTouch away for now, yeah?" I slowly put a paw over his and took his iTouch from him, helping him slip it into his pocket.

"Al-Alright, Bri..." Darrien said with a yawn and closed his eyes. His head rolled onto his shoulder and then he began to lean against me.

"Woah, woah, not here," I whispered quickly into his ear and helped him back to an upright position, looking around us nervously in case anyone had seen.

"Aww... please Bri...?" he whined, trying to lean against me again, but I wouldn't let him. "Who cares if anyone knows..."

After I was sure that no one had seen, I whispered into his ear again, a slight smile spreading across my face. "We've been keeping it a secret all this time, why should we just reveal it all of a sudden?"

"I don't know..." he replied, barely audibly.

"Exactly," I chuckled a bit, patting his shoulder. "Just rest up for now, alright? You need your rest; school has been brutal on all of us."

"Okay, Bri," he said quietly, his head rolling over onto his other shoulder, and began to snore lightly.

"Atta boy," I spoke encouragingly, "I'll wake you up when we get there."

Darrien tried speaking again, but I couldn't make out anything he said anymore. I could only guess at what he said though, and leaned in and whispered in his ear, "I love you too, sweetheart."

Darrien wagged his tail slowly for a few seconds before it went limp again.

"Love you so much," I said quietly, only loud enough for myself to hear while leaning back over into my own seat and then curled up a bit to stay warm, and yawned widely.

"Alright, boys, buckle up, we're off," Simon called back to everyone on the bus with a booming voice, despite still being half-asleep.

The bus began moving and I stared outside the window, watching houses, trees, and other things slowly but then quickly pass by as we picked up speed.

"So then, Brian," Simon began saying after a few minutes had passed, seeming fully awake now. "How've you been? We haven't spoken lately at all."

"Ahh, yes, I'm sorry," I said, leaning forward in my seat, "school has been..." I paused for a second, biting down on my bottom lip, and then began speaking again. "Intense, I guess you could say. I'm only half-way through the first semester of my junior year, and we're already overloaded on work. We can't get through one week anymore without at least two tests, one or two quizzes, a presentation, and some kind of major assignment like a commentary for English."

"Ouch, I'm sorry to hear about that, buddy," said Simon empathetically, his brows furrowing a bit.

"Thanks," I said back with a slight smile. "Personally, I'm fine with school. It's I.B. that's killing us."

"I.B.?" asked the lion, tilting his head a bit while still keeping his eyes on the road. "What's that?"

I gave a shrug and flicked one of my ears, then spoke, "International Baccalaureate. It's..." I gave another pause. "It's an educational foundation that offers higher educational programs of international education."

"Yeah, I think you've lost me already," chuckled Simon, a grin on his face. "In English, please?"

"Let's just put it this way," I chuckled with him, "it exists to suck the life out of education by giving us too much work to do."

"Ahh, got'cha," he said, grinning wider. "Now you're speaking something I can understand."

"Oh, I'm sure you understood what I said at first. You're just too lazy to actually process it." I gave him a friendly slap on the back of his head and continued to chuckle a bit as I leaned back against my seat again while yawning, getting comfortable. Afterall, it was at least forty minutes from my house to school by school bus.

Unconsciously, my eyes began to droop while listening to the deep vibration that the bus was making. By the time my eyes had completely shut, I had fallen asleep just about instantly.

"Hey, c'mon, Brian, wake up," I heard faintly as I felt my head spin. "Brian, we're here."

Slowly opening my eyes just barely, I saw the face of the same lion I was speaking to earlier, before I had accidentally fallen asleep. I tried hard to move, but my body refused to, completely fatigued. My eyes drooped shut again. Suddenly though, I felt myself being lifted from my seat by someone, and I heard a familiar voice.

"Don't worry about it, Simon, I've got him," the voice said softly, and then I felt the temperature of the air change dramatically from warm to freezing cold, causing me to shiver and curl up in the strong arms which held me up.

"Wake up, baby," the voice said again, but this time whispering in my ear.

Now it became obvious who was carrying me. I grunted back sleepily in response, and then Darrien started to giggle a bit and lick my ear.

"I guess it looks like I'm the one waking up you instead," the black and white husky said with a smirk.

"Oh, the irony," I mumbled, and twisted my head up to smile at him, but with my eyes still closed.

"You're such a cutey, you know that?" Darrien gave my forehead a quick kiss and then started to set me down.

I whined quietly as I felt my feet touch the floor, and held onto him, trying to find my balance.

"Th-There we go..." I sighed, and opened my eyes slowly after finally being able to stand without support.

I looked around and let out a sigh of relief. We were behind a row of buses, so no one should've seen him carrying me, not to mention licking my ear. Then, when I reassured myself that no one was around us, I turned and looked up at him.

"Hello there," Darrien said and smiled, staring into my eyes.

For a moment, I had got lost in his eyes while I stared back. Those eyes of glistening sapphire sparkled with countless miniature stars in them, almost like looking at a swirling galaxy. Beauty, so much of it contained in just those two orbs.

"Are you alright there, Bri?" Darrien asked with his smile spreading into a grin, bringing me back into reality, my ears perking up suddenly.

"Wh-oh, yeah, of course," I said quickly, shaking my head and then looking awkwardly to the side. Slowly, I turned my head back to look at him, my cheeks slightly pink, and quietly said, "Hello," and smiled shyly up at him.

"Yep, most definitely a cutey," he chuckled, ruffling up my head-fur.

"H-Hey!" I pulled my head back and then began to pat my head-fur back down, fixing it straight.

"What?" he teased, grinning wider. "I think you look great like that."

"Yeah, maybe for a wildebeest," I giggled a bit and then started to feel the cold crawling up my spine again. I began to shiver a bit and let out a yawn too.

"Aww... how about we go inside, puppy," suggested the husky who was dressed warmly in thick layers of clothing, and then wrapped his arms around me.

"S-Sure," I pressed myself up against him, trying to keep myself warm. "And you're lucky I let you call me puppy, pup," I grinned and tilted my head back to stick my tongue out at him. "I may be all yours, but I'm still the one who looks after you."

"Mmm... maybe," he grinned back at me and bopped my nose, causing me to sneeze, and then gave me a gentle squeeze with his arms.

We started walking from the parking lot to our first class together a bit early, but Darrien had let go of me somewhere along the way, not wanting to draw unwanted attention from the other students who were socializing outside. The many students whom we passed all nodded or waved at us, all knowing us for many different reasons.

As we arrived at our psychology classroom, we took our seats next to each other and took our notes out, even though there were a few minutes left before classes started. However, on our sheets of paper were several doodles of random things such as cityscapes at night, wolves, birds, and characters from games like Final Fantasy.

"Alright, Dare, I've got a good one for you today," I took out my pencil and started making a quick sketch on the paper, completely ignoring any of the text that was already on it.

In a matter of seconds, Darrien had begun wagging his tail furiously, even though I hadn't finished drawing yet. He knew what it was.

"Sephiroth!" he exclaimed and swiped the paper off of my desk after I had finished drawing it, admiring it in awe.

"I knew you'd love it," I smiled and scratched behind his ear when no one was looking, making him groan a bit and roll his head, his leg twitching a bit.

Despite the terrible feeling from the fatigue, I knew that today was going to be a good day. In fact, our classes had gone by quite fast, making things even better. There was also plenty of laughter in them too as I joked around with my teachers in front of the whole of my classes.

When the school bell rang, signaling the end of the school day, I quickly ran out to the Performing Arts Department and opened up a small practice room, big enough for maybe a queen-sized bed to fit inside perfectly. Flipping on the light switch, the room appeared to be virtually empty, except for the piano and a few scores of music resting on top of it, a few pencils, and an acoustic. Nobody really used the practice rooms in this school, or at least not the ones at the very end of the corridor, so I felt that it was safe to leave my music scores and guitar in it. Once though, I had discovered my things missing, but it turned out that the Performing Arts secretary had found them and assumed that someone had forgotten them, and so she took them to the security room.

Dropping my schoolbag in the corner, I sat down on the piano seat which was already pulled out and placed the tips of my fingers on the keys, ready to play, but did not.

"Oh, Brian?" I heard a familiar voice call outside the closed door, and I began to play chords and sing softly.

"Oh, beautiful moon," I sang, "sing me a song. Make it slow, and sweet, if you can. Oh, beautiful moon, don't worry 'bout the clouds in the sky. 'Cause they'll all wash away with the tide."

I paused for a second and perked an ear up, listening closely for anymore noise on the other side of the door.

One loud knock came.

"One, for yes," I whispered to myself in satisfaction and grinned, standing up and opened the door to find a husky just a bit taller than me standing there.

"It was beautiful, Bri," said Darrien softly, and brushed my cheek with the back of his paw, causing me to blush lightly and wag my tail slowly. "Thank you."

I looked down a bit shyly, and then smiled up at him. "Anything for you, my beautiful husk husk."

Taking my paw in his, Darrien lead me back inside the practice room and shut the door firmly behind him, locking it, and pressed me up against the wall. I began to feel my cheeks burning, probably a deep red right as I watched Darrien slowly lean in. His lips planted on mine and I felt his tongue begging entrance, so I slowly spread my lips apart in submission, letting his tongue slip into my maw.

Our tongues wrestled with each other for a while until I felt his lips slowly part from mine, and I heard him whisper, "I love you, puppy," and he smiled before planting his lips back on mine again. The light flicked off.

I love you too, Darrien, my beautiful husky.
