The World of a Husky
Part 3
The first date
______________________________________________________________________
The next day was Friday and Leo was excited. He was excited because it was the weekend and because it was his first date with Skyler. During fourth block Leo kept looking at the clock every five minutes. He kept tapping his mechanical pencil against the hard plastic desk.
"If you keep looking at that clock, time is going to move slower." Jeremy said to Leo.
Leo turned and looked at his German Shepard friend, who looked up from his desk and smiled at Leo.
"I know." Leo smiled back.
"I'm glad to see you in a better mood. So... what's been up with you the past few days?"
"It's complicated."
"I can understand that." He took off his hat and scratched the top of his head and put the hat back on. "I have a question."
"Shoot."
"You seeing anyone?"
"Um... why?" Leo started to get concerned, he didn't want anyone to know about him dating another male.
"I know this girl, and she thinks you're pretty cute."
"Oh.... I'm not seeing a girl right now." Leo said to Jeremy and then thought, "But I am seeing someone."
"Do you want me to set you up?"
"Uh... Not now no, I'm OK."
The bell rang for the end of the day and Leo turned back to his desk. He shut his binder with his notebook and loose papers still inside. He sat up so fast he almost made his desk fall over.
"See ya Leo." Jeremy said as the Husky rushed out of the room.
"Bye, Jeremy." Leo said as he walked out into the hallway. He rushed down the hall weaving in and out of everyone. When he reached his locker he was so anxious to leave that he had to put his combination in three times to open it. He just grabbed his bag and slammed the locker shut. He put his books into his backpack as he ran down the stairs.
He rushed towards the most congested hall in the entire school. This was the worst point too, because he took too long with his locker, it allowed the students to merge into the hall intersection. Leo made his way into the crowd and waited patiently.
When Leo got out of the crowd he rushed towards the door. He made his way out into the parking lot and walked across the hot asphalt to his car. When he got close he noticed Skyler leaning up against his car.
"Took you long enough." Skyler said jokingly.
"Shut up." Leo lightly pushed Skyler's left shoulder as he walked to the driver's side door. "Just get into the car." Leo hit the button on his remote and the door unlocked. He opened the door and slid into the hot leather seat. Leo put the key into the ignition and started the car. He unlocked the convertible top as Skyler sat in the passenger seat. Leo hit the button and the top dropped, as it opened the heat escaped out of the vehicle.
"Ready?" Skyler said to Leo.
"Of course." Leo shut the door and put the car into gear. He stepped onto the gas and took off out of the parking lot. It only took about 15 minutes to get to the mall. When Leo parked the car he didn't bother putting the top up.
"You're not putting the top up?" Jeremy asked as he got out of the car.
"No, there really is no point." He opened the door and got out. They walked to towards the mall and walked inside. They walked past a few stores before they got to the food court. "You hungry?"
"Of course I am. We have first lunch, at 10:30 in the morning."
"True." Leo laughed as they walked deeper into the food court. The whole area was filled with all the different smells of the different food places. "I'm gettin' pizza."
"Again? You eat that everyday for lunch."
"What's your point." Leo smiled. "What are you getting?"
"Subway."
"That's expensive, dude."
"Not really, not with the five dollar foot long."
"I have a five dollar foot long." Leo said quietly, but loud enough for Skyler to hear.
"You wish." Skyler teased.
"You wanna find out."
"Maybe." Skyler smiled back at Leo as he walked to Subway. Leo walked over to the pizza place and placed his order.
Leo walked back to the table where the Lion was already sitting. They sat there eating their food in silence until Skyler broke the silence.
"So, are we going to tell anyone about us?"
"No, not yet."
"You think we should let them figure it out?"
"That may be best." Leo took a drink of his Dr. Pepper. "We don't really know how they will react."
"True."
The two talked to each other for a while eating. It was a nice moment for the two of them. After about an hour, they stood up and walked to the movie theater. Leo instinctively reached for Skyler's paw, but stopped himself, remembering that they were in a public place.
They walked into the movie theater lobby and got their tickets. They then made their way to theater three and sat down in the middle of the room. The lights began to dim a minute after they sat down. Leo reached over the arm rest and held Skyler's paw. They both looked at each other and smiled.
Three hours later the movie ended and Skyler and Leo stood up and walked out. They made their way through the mall and back out to the car. They talked about the movie all the way out of the building and on the way home. Leo parked his car in the driveway and put the top up.
"I had fun today." Skyler told Leo
"So did I. We should do something next weekend."
"That would be fun." Skyler looked at the clock in the car. "Well I guess I better get going."
"OK." Leo sighed. "I'll see you... tomorrow?"
"Yeah, that's cool." Skyler opened the door. "I'll see ya, Leo." he said smiling.
"Bye Skyler." Leo smiled back at Skyler. He then got out of the car and walked inside. He walked up into his room and saw Neo laying on his bed.
"Where have you been?"
"I was out with Skyler."
"Oh, OK. I was just wonderin'." Neo sat up and walked out of the room.
"That was weird." Leo thought to himself as he laid on the bed. He then started to think about what would happen if his friends and family found out about this. Would they except him, or reject him. How would his brother's take it, especially Neo. How would Jeremy or Steffan take it.
Leo thought on what his life would be like if they reject him. His friends no longer talk to him, no one to hang out with. He would be all alone, just like he was once before. He hated the feeling of being alone with no one to talk to.
"Why do things in my life have to be so complex... or do I just think too much." Leo thought. Leo never had things the easy way, and they never went as planned.
