#2 of Back for Revenge

I was startled by the sound of the bus driver yelling out my name while the people around me stared impatiently. I realized I was at my stop as I shook my head a bit to wake myself from the dream world I was torn from, getting up out of my seat and down the ramp. What just happen? Was I really daydreaming? before making it out there was one last attempt to destroy my pride with a kid sticking his foot out in the walkway to trip me. I did stumble but long grew use to this attempt and kept my holding on my feet only making a retreat out of that infernal bus and back into freedom.

My heart was still pounding in my chest. My ears ached from the sirens I thought were real. My face was even still wet from the tears I shed in fear but everything is normal. I saw no creatures, no blood, no dead bodies... I saw the children playing about in the street, the parents about getting the mail and creating small talk with others. I shook my head with confusion and tried not to think about it for now.

Just like any other day, I walked home from the start of my street. Even though a hand full of other people got off at my stop, I always walked alone. When it came to friends people found me to be a plaque. While I walked on down the street, I wondered to myself what really was keeping me here. I had very little left to hold onto, my religion and my love for a creature that does not live on this world. That's all I had left and yet there was more, perhaps it wasn't something I had rather then something I feared. I feared death; I feared what would happen after death. Therefore, with that fear keeping me here I kept moving onward at my own rate lost in this world.

When I reached my home and open the front door, I was greeted with an unhappy face of my step mom. She was holding a staff I treasured as my only relic and link to my religion. The staff was 5 feet tall, a toothpick staff painted in black with yellow lightning like designs drawn into it. The top quarter of the staff had silver thick tap around it from when I had broken the piece off. My step Mom threw the staff at me and I fumbled to catch it while she screamed out.

"I'm sick of that stick you always drag around with you, everywhere I go the damn thing is trying to trip me or get in my way."

I cringed slightly "but Suz" I stuttered

"No, I want that thing in the trash by trash day end of discussion" and then she stomped off.

I sighed, she was always upset about something, like the world kept giving her crap and she shoveled it off at me. I made my way to my room when I noticed the living room TV was left on, knowing my step Mom she would blame it on me some how so I went in to turn it off. She always watched the news so it was no surprise that is what the TV was showing.

I went to press the power button when an emergency report aired on the TV and caught my attention. The news Caster looked in disbelief at this report but required by his job he announced a state of emergency.

"I just received word that the nation has gone under a state of emergency; it appears were under attack by an unknown enemy at this moment. The invasion seems to be sweeping not only the nation but" The news castor paused, even he couldn't believe this report "Ladies and Gentlemen I cannot believe what I'm hearing, it seems the world itself is under global attack by humanoid creatures. The military is doing all they can to stop this attack, we advice you at this time stay in your homes. If you are outside seek closest shelter immediately and conceal yourself from view."

I was becoming convinced this was a prank but my excuse was proved wrong when sirens began to go off. I was filled with disbelief but something possessed me to go to the one spot I always went when I felt cornered and lost. Throwing my book bag off my shoulders it pounded the floor heavily and a ran out the door with my staff. I ran as fast as my feet would take me down my street and into the woods nearby. It all seemed like a dream to me. I was always wondering to myself what I would do if the world was changed by something like this. The only thing I could think of is getting this hill found in the woods at the edge of a private schools field and track grounds. Could this really be happening? It was like something out of my dreams.

I finally emerged from the woods to a hill placed at the edge of this forest. I made my way up the steps hill half made of rocks at the base and all sorts of plants grew on top of it, there was always one spot in the middle that nothing would grow on however. I reached the top and plunged my staff into the dirt so it would stand on its own. I looked over two main streets I could see from here at a distance. It was strange seeing the streets cleared. There was not a single person outside besides me. This convinced me enough this was the real thing.

My sights shifted when I heard the sound of dirt rapidly falling to the ground and the hill I was on rumble slightly underneath my feet. I could see down the hillside some sort of secret passage underground was opening up. I managed to catch a sight of a dark furred head with pointed long ears coming off the back of its head. That's all I needed to see to know I was in danger, I grabbed my staff and pulled at it starting off down a side of the hill but my staff broke in half one piece still stuck in the ground. With mixed emotions a panicked and dropped the other half running down the hillside and into the forest.

I looked back quickly to see the creature standing on the hill were I was holding the pieces of my staff. The creature was so tall; it made my staff look like a wand in its paws. However, it jumped down the hill and began chasing me with great speed. I turned back around just in time to dodge a tree, I was running hard, and breathing heavy. My options were slimming when I started running along side a creek. The old creek was man made a long time ago; it was made of mostly mud with whatever garbage the lazy people nearby decided to toss into it.

The creek has seen nearly everything a garbage dump has. From simple bag garbage to cans even to mattress springs and pipes all the way to an entire dingy I had found one time. It was a death trap to fall into however, with metal sticking up out of the surface of the dark water I made sure to stay away from the edge. I was growing very tired and out of breath by now as well, starting to stumble I told myself not to look back but I did. I saw the tall creature behind me, made of very dark gray fur. The creature looked humanoid just as the news has reported. Like a furry...

Only a second later my side had collided with the hard rough surface of a tree spinning me around as my moment brought me painfully up against another. My head bounced off the jagged bark and losing my balance I slipped into the creek I feared. I fell face down into the shallow water that was only a foot or so deep, however the murky water hid a metallic object that I discovered.

A sharp pain pierced into my shoulder as a metal object was impaled into it, shattering the bones in my shoulder. The pain was unlike anything I have ever experienced. I let out a painful scream underneath the water and tried to pull myself up so I could breath. My fear grew to a level I've never knew when I realized my right arm wouldn't move and my left hand wasn't enough to get me up out of the water, it would just get sunk into the muddy bottom. My legs were set up on the side of this creek, they were so numb from running I couldn't even use them to help me get out and I feared my time had come.

Just as I struggled with the last bit of energy I had as water started pouring into my throat I felt a large but warm and furry hand grip around the back of my neck and jerk me out of the creek. The metal pole came out of the water with me. I couldn't even see my eyes were blurred and full of water, I was coughing up breath after breath of mud water from my lungs. Before I could begin to comprehend my situation, I felt the sharp pain of the metal object being ripped out of my shoulder. When I thought I could not bear the physical pain of my shredded shoulder the world turned dark around me unfocused and a dazed. The only thing I could remember was the feel of fur carrying me.
