MSBA- Tutorial Part 3
#7 of MSBA
Final chapter to the tutorial section of this story
I hesitate and take a few steps back as I notice that there is another figure approaching, this one much more unique looking and much taller. They are some sort of humanoid wearing a fancy blue and black outfit with a long, curved sword in one of his hands. It takes me a moment to realize that they are not doing anything more than just walk up and don't have any more response regarding anything. He seems to almost be a much larger version of the soldiers, but based on the height, I get the feeling that this is a clay soldier designed to represent another like me. Probably going to mean that my next ability is going to have a different effect on the other people.
All the previous green boards disappear again and a new one shows up showing me pushing the energy into my mouth. And unlike the previous times it doesn't even try to force me right away to perform it. Instead it seems to encourage me to walk closer to the other figure. I reluctantly do so and also see if I am able to push the energy through my mouth at the same time. I know that the big fireball restricts my motion and in many regards so too does the second, though for a different reason. I find that the act of bring it up doesn't seem to be limiting me in any regard, I thankfully get no feedback from that annoying chip and I don't see anything suddenly go on a timer on my status screen. I see another screen showing me winding back and then an image of screaming, which does clarify things a bit for me. Guess it's not so much a mouth laser. All the better because I imagine that would such a foul taste in ones mouth. But with the thing being charged up I notice that I can no longer fire the little balls at the enemy. I guess this one doesn't lock me out of motion, but does lock me out of using anything else while I'm holding it. Curious as to what all it does I take a deep breath when close to the other figure and do my best to simulate screaming out this energy. I am shocked to hear an almost supersonic screech coming from out of my mouth, accentuated by the air in front of me even rippling. All of the little dolls in front of me seem to take some damage as far as I can tell. But the more pronounced effect is on the other figure. I'm sent back about a foot or two from the act, but the other figure is sent flying a good ten to fifteen feet. So a good way to back someone off.
Looking at the band it doesn't seem to have that long of a timer. But considering how little it seemed to do to the little clay soldiers and even the larger clay person doesn't look all that phased I'm guessing it's an almost exclusively defensive ability, meant to try and protect myself, rather than actually try and do any real harm to anyone. Of course since the other one has a gun, I'm not entirely sure how much use being able to knock someone back a little bit will really help me all that much. But I guess better than nothing. Though that does make me consider for a moment on what the difference must be between the two of us that he gets a gun and I'm just stuck with a wand. Theoretically shouldn't a gun beat a stick at any level of skill? Or is it where my weapon can change over time. This is really not being explained to me all that well. But I haven't really seen any sort of sign of any kind of shop just yet. I have some symbols on my device that is going up, and I notice it goes up a bit faster whenever one of their clay soldiers die, but there is no indication as to what I do with this information. If I'm getting money from something I have no idea how to spend it. I can probably guess by the fact that I have six little blank slots in the device that I can hold up to six of something, but whether that's six weapons, six items, I have no idea. But I guess I'll have to just figure that out later as right now it seems exclusively concerned about just teaching me how to use my abilities.
I see another set of boards show up and this set actually rather confuses me. Especially in that the chip seems to be trying to prevent me from doing it and only making me go based on the boards. But I guess from looking at all the information it's trying to give me I guess it makes sense. It seems the fourth ability to my repertoire as far as I am able to discern would basically take everything I have left in my one bar and use it all up at once. And from the pictures it's done by throwing my energy to both sides of me and then spinning them in a circle until I've formed a bit of a halo around myself. From what I can gather from the pictures this would pretty much damage everything in a massive explosion around me. But would have a lengthy cool down afterwards and effectively make me defenseless in the mean-time. I suppose that might be why it doesn't want me to practice it since it hasn't shown my anything to regain my bar other than time at the moment. But it moves on after that and the other figure stands before me as the signs change again. This one sends my energy in the one direction I haven't had to send it so far, which is behind me. Apparently by just building up all my energy into my tail I can unleash a really powerful attack. And since this time it is letting me do it I try and push the energy in that direction, finding it extremely uncomfortable to do so. It's like having your mouth full of water and trying to pour even more in.
Eventually I find that the sensation is actually giving me a headache and then a few seconds later something strange happens. I can feel a burning sensation on the center of my head and then I can start to see something that isn't at all what I can see from my own eyes. It can't really see all that much, just can see a sense of light. When I put my hand over the area on my forehead that is burning I can see this new sight darken, though I'm not feeling anything in particular. The only other thing I can see through this new sensation is the other figure. I also notice that though it doesn't restrict me from moving in any regard, I seem unable to divert my power to anything else while this thing is going on. Meaning I guess if I wanted to attack with something else I'd have to figure out how to cancel out of this attack first. I find that if I focus on the only figure I can see I get this sort of tension that's just waiting to happen, as if there is a bowstring pulled taut in my tail and when I let it go while focusing on him all of the energy I had been building up fires out from behind me and I notice that the violet beam seems to quickly curve in the air and pierce the other figure in the chest, causing it to just completely fall apart.
Once it has fired I find that the extra sight thing immediately goes away and when I look down at my little status thing I find that not only does this ability use up more of my blue bar than the other ones, except of course the one that would go through everything I had left. A second thing I notice is that the thing indicating a timer almost doesn't seem to be moving on this ability. Meaning it is a far stronger ability than the others, but not something that can be used frequently. Probably best as a way of finishing off someone. Though, I wonder if there is any way to avoid taking damage from such an ability. Because the eye thing would lead me to believe that it is something that would lock on to the target. Which of course means if I have such an ability it stands to reason that there are others that may have similar abilities to myself. So that is something to definitely consider when facing others. But I highly doubt that other people would have the same sort of abilities as myself, so there will always be this disadvantage of not knowing what each person can do.
But the little clay soldiers stop showing up and the signs don't show up any more. Instead another little golden trail shows up, leading further on. I follow it and I find myself no longer in the rather open path but instead a place with quite a lot of twists and turns. I find a ledge with the trail leading me towards it. I don't exactly see any sort of staircase right now. So without anything else to try I guess I just have to climb up it. I jump up with the intent of seeing how high I can go and though I can jump much higher than in my real body it's nowhere close to high enough to get over the ledge of this thing. I look at my staff, wondering how I'm supposed to deal with this thing when trying to climb. Without any sign being shown and the chip being thankfully rather quiet I just slide the staff along the top of the ledge and then I jump up and reach onto the ledge. While up here I actually notice that there seems to be a sort of foothold barely in the wall. Not enough that I could probably just run up it, but I can use it to help pull myself up. And I find it far easier to climb up than I would have previously.
Once up on the top I grab my staff again and wait for the little trail for me to follow to show up, knowing there really isn't much point in doing anything else. Deviating from what it wants cause the chip to act up and hurt me, as is taking too long. I can tell that the area up here is far darker than it was previously, allowing me to only see a certain distance away. I try walking forward and attacking with my staff at the same time, noticing how though I can move and attack at the same time, my legs feel a bit sluggish for a second. It is a strange sensation. It isn't so much of the chip preventing me or my legs not working, they just move slower than normal. Which is new information anyway since that means that if there is something that can slow my motions, then it stands to reason that there will be something to accelerate them.
Walking around this area is very nerve wracking. Even though I strongly imagine that there is no real danger in this current place, it doesn't change the fact that my senses are working overdrive trying to pick up the slightest trace of anything out of the ordinary, which is very difficult to not be on edge, despite the drug that is apparently flowing through my veins keeping me calm. There are a few more areas where I have to do some more climbing up or down and even one spot where I was expected to have to jump over a little gap. Eventually the trail leads me to this large, open area where I can see a sort of monster of some kind staring at me but doesn't move. It's wreathed in a sort of blue aura. I can see the line stop right next to it and note that the chip has started working on me again to get me to step forward enough to step within a certain distance from it. I don't know what it wants me to do beyond that but I start feeling the chip try and move my arms and so I figure it must be trying to get me to attack it. But if it's just going to stand there and do nothing I might as well attack it with the thing I know can get extremely powerful if I'm allowed to just build it up. So I raise up my arms and begin pushing the energy past the staff.
And the chip lets me. And since I know this ability is one I can just make as large as I want I just let it build up until I find a point where it stops growing or the chip gets impatient. And oddly enough it is more from getting bored than anything that I move on. The thing is currently huge after having taken a full minute of just charging the thing up. Easily would fit the entire little area of this monster. And knowing that I probably need to actually take it out I move my staff forward and then down, wondering what will be the effect of potentially hitting myself with my own attack. I lower the attack and half brace myself for the explosion I'm causing, but don't actually feel anything. Instead as I look up I can see a little barrier having been formed right in front of me. So apparently, I can also use this one ability to attack myself to block a hit. Can't exactly do it with my normal attacks and really not that useful considering the cooldown and how long it takes to charge up. But I'm sure it could be very useful in some situation or other. The monster thing has practically disappeared, leaving the blue aura thing just sitting there as a floating little orb of something or other. Knowing that at the very least I should investigate and see what it is I walk up to it and tentatively touch the thing. The moment I make contact it flies right into me and I can feel a sort of energy within me and my whole body seems to glow blue as well. So then would that mean if someone were to defeat me they'd get the blue thing as well? But I can see a blue ball symbol now on my little status thing.
And knowing that that is how this place usually ends up doing things I look around for another of the signs to show up. And oddly it doesn't seem to be in all that much of a hurry and the chip doesn't seem to be doing anything. Not really feeling any impulses from the chip I lean back against the wall, half trying to see what it feels like and anything else. And with nothing else to do I look down at the device and just start playing with it, seeing what all it does. And then I go about poking at the blue thing.
Touching it brings up some more information, which would be useful if not for the fact it's all written in a language I cannot read. There are a few bars next to some of the text that I can't read that have gotten somewhat filled up. But I suppose it could be useful enough once I at least am told what each of those areas actually mean. Eventually I grow bored and push off the wall and just start trying to explore, trusting the thing would tell me if I am doing something it doesn't want me doing. After going over another little ridge that I had to jump I feel my little arm thing begin to vibrate. Curious I look down at it and see that a new icon is blinking at me. I click at it and it brings up a map of some sort, though the one I see is mainly one giant corridor in front of me. But more importantly I can see a little circular area and a symbol of some sort of figure outlined in red just entering it. And then there's a side path I can take that would take me completely around them completely.
Seeing no input from the chip I decide to just play it safe and go the side path. It'd seem incredibly silly to tell me something is there, give me a way to avoid the thing entirely and then not expect me to avoid the thing. This is supposed to be some sort of tutorial thing, after all. As I walk down the side path my arm thing buzzes at me more and when I look two more circular faces join within the radius as they all make their way towards the area I'm no longer all, all the more justifying my decision to just flat out avoid them completely.
A bit further in I actually find another set of boards rise up to show what it was that I just went through. First board seems to be talking about that aura, showing that there are a bunch of different little things, all of them improve things. One increases the power of attacks, another makes people faster or able to take damage better and mine apparently helps with the cooldowns and the regeneration of the blue bar. The second one is talking about that circle. Apparently on my menu next to the map there are these two little symbols. When I click on one a small obsidian shard appears out of the ground. And when I pick it up and throw it up into the air it creates a field that would alert me whenever someone is coming into the area. But they don't last forever and I can only have two of them up at any given time. So very useful thing to keep in mind when moving in this darker area. And if everyone has these it would be a nice line of defense to make rounds to go place them. But we'll just have to see. Thankfully, from looking at the map I can see that I'm almost at the end of this tutorial thing. I half wonder what else it's going to throw at me but find that at the end of the area I see another board. This one is showing a new map with three lanes, three things marked as objectives on each lane for each side and then one thing at the end. And there is a ton of little paths throughout this new map, including even some interlocking paths and multiple levels. And apparently the game wins when the last objective is defeated.
