Chapter 4
Yoka sat on the cliff's edge with his head in his arms crying. It was dark out and the stars shone brightly. Yoka looked up at them and marveled at their beauty, only to be struck into spiraling depression once more as memories of Yoshi came flooding into Yoka's mind.
He and Yoshi use to stay up all night looking at the stars. Well, that was when they were still the best of friends. Yoka didn't get it. He thought that he could trust Yoshi. Yoshi even said it himself, Yoka could tell him anything and everything would still be all right, but evidently, he was wrong.
Yoka continued to cry on the cliff. It was a special place to him, since he had used to go there all the time before he met Yoshi. He only came here so he could just cry it out when he felt down. It was a nice place and it let Yoka do some thinking when he needed some time alone, and right now, Yoka had a lot of thinking to do.
He just couldn't figure it out. Why would Yoshi yell at him like that, especially when he had just entrusted Yoshi with his most personal secret? Yoka always thought that if Yoshi knew, he'd get rejected by him and that would break their friendship, but Yoka had a hope. He had hoped that Yoshi would be okay with Yoka's secret, but he wasn't. Yoka cried some more, regretting ever telling Yoshi that he was gay.
Yoka was gay, and for a while now, he had had a crush on Yoshi. He loved how Yoshi was always there to comfort him, how he always worried about him. Yoshi was just so sweet. Yoka even owed Yoshi his life. If he had never met Yoshi, Yoka would have been long gone.
Yoshi meant everything to him. Yoka couldn't imagine a day without Yoshi. A day without Yoshi was a walk through hell for Yoka. Yoka cried even more as he thought this.
"Why Yoshi why?" Yoka mumbled to himself, "why did you have to yell? You said that everything was going to be all right. Then tell me why, why would you hurt me so bad?"
Yoka stuffed his head into his arms and continue to cry once more. He was heartbroken. Yoka wanted all the pain to just go away, but it wouldn't leave him alone. Memories of Yoshi kept swarming his head, and with each memory that came, Yoka only felt more sorrow and depression.
Yoka continued crying on top of the cliff. He tried to stop thinking about Yoshi by thinking of other stuff, but everything he thought of brought back even more memories of Yoshi, and every thought of Yoshi brought back vivid memories of what happened tonight.
Yoka had confessed to Yoshi about both being gay and being gay for Yoshi. At first Yoshi was silent, then he went on a rampage. He yelled and cursed at Yoka. It was a living nightmare. Yoka just couldn't take it and fled the house.
Yoka finally stopped crying. He had no more tears to shed. He sat there on the cliff overlooking Serka. Life sucked, Yoka thought. He didn't feel life just wasn't worth it anymore. Yoka wanted to get rid of his stupid pain, and jumping off the cliff looked like a good way to get rid of it, for good.
Yoka stood up and looked over the cliff. It looked pretty deep, but it was still dark out, so he couldn't really tell how deep it was, but it didn't matter. Yoka thought about his entire life. His childhood was all beatings and persecutions. His life with Yoshi was fun, too bad he could never go back. And now, life still sucked, Yoka had this fissure in his heart, and it wouldn't go away, well not yet.
Yoka closed his eyes and prepared to jump. Should he really do it? What would he be leaving behind? Yoka thought for a bit about who would miss him. Anyone outside of Yoka's limited circle of friends wouldn't care if he died, heck some of them would probably celebrate. Yoka was never really close to Ryn so she probably wouldn't feel too bad. Sector was kind of close to Yoka, he'd probably be sad for about a week or two and then be perfectly fine. Koiyano was rather an oddball, but he could probably make it without Yoka too. Tyrone and Keyrame went off to join that Kairyome organization. They use to write letters to Yoka and co. all the time, but they stopped recently for whatever reason. Guessed they stopped caring.
Yoshi... Yoshi would be glad that Yoka was finally out of his life. He would probably be relieved that Yoka was dead. Finally Yoshi would be able to do whatever whenever without the constant worrying of what Yoka thought.
Yoka sighed as he realized that he was nothing more than a burden to everyone. All he did was cause people to worry. The world was probably better off without him. Yoka clenched at his chest as he prepared to jump. He suddenly remembered that he was wearing a necklace.
Yoka took off his necklace and looked at it. The jewel inside was made of such beauty. Yoka felt crushed when he remembered why he had the necklace in the first place. It was suppose to be a symbol of his friendship with Yoshi. What a friendship, Yoka thought. He dropped the necklace onto the rocky cliff. No way was Yoka going to die with that wretched rock constantly reminding him of how horrible his life was.
Yoka closed his eyes once more. This time, he was going to do it. He was really going to jump. He felt a surge of hope dwelling within him. Yoka wanted someone to yell "Don't jump, Yoka!" He wanted to know that there was still someone out there who cared for him. He stood there for what felt like hours. No one was coming, and if someone did come, would they really care if Yoka died?
Yoka sighed at how depressing the thought was. He shut his eyes tight, and got ready to jump. And this time he did. He jumped off the cliff.
"Hey!"
Yoka quickly opened his eyes in surprised and quickly grabbed the cliff ledge. At least his training with Yoshi wasn't a complete waste Yoka thought. He pulled himself up and looked for the source of whoever greeted him. To his surprise he saw a light gecko sitting on the cliff a couple feet behind where Yoka was sitting.
"So, how's life?" The light gecko asked. The gecko was strange. Yoka had never seen the gecko in his life before, and here he was, talking to Yoka like they met up somewhere for a drink or something. The gecko had pure white eyes, which stood out in his black Gi.
The gecko's eyes were mysterious. They seemed to be so pure, yet they seem to hold dark secrets withen. His gaze felt deep and penetrating, almost as though the gecko could see right into Yoka's thoughts.
"You know it's kind of hard to have a conversation with someone if they don't reply to your questions." The gecko chuckled.
"Oh, I'm sorry," Yoka blushed and sat down to look at the gecko. He noticed that the gecko had a sword sheathed to his right. The light gecko was fairly skinny, but he seemed to have a nice muscular build, not too much, but not too bad either. He looked as old as Yoshi, actually he was a lot of like Yoshi, except much skinnier.
"Are you just going to stare at me all night or are we going to have an actual conversation and watch the sunrise?" The gecko asked still laughing.
"Oh, I'm sorry," Yoka blushed even more. How embarrassing, Yoka thought. He never even met the guy and Yoka was already caught staring at him.
"The name's Keith," the gecko said, extending a hand.
"Umm, Yoka," Yoka replied shaking hands with Keith. Yoka was still blushing from being caught staring earlier.
"Come sit here next to me and we can talk and watch the sunrise," Keith said still giggling a bit from earlier.
"Umm okay," Yoka replied nervously. He sat up, walked over to Keith, and sat to the gecko's right. This is weird, Yoka thought, why would this gecko be so nice to me, he reminds me a lot of Yoshi, but he has a different aura to him.
"So you never answered my question," Keith laughed cheerfully,
"Oh, I'm sorry," Yoka laughed a bit, the gecko's cheerfulness was starting to rub off on him. It made him feel a bit better.
"Umm, what was the question again?" Yoka asked blushing some more. Keith laughed aloud when he saw Yoka's face turning red, which caused Yoka's face to turn even redder.
"What's so funny?" Yoka asked nervously, his face growing brighter and brighter every second. It took a while, but Keith finally calmed down.
"I'm sorry," Keith replied still giggling a bit, "It's that you look so cute when you blush so much." Yoka's started blushing furiously, which in turned caused Keith to laugh some more.
"Oh, so how's life treating you?" Keith asked after he finally calmed down.
"Life sucks," Yoka sighed as memories of Yoshi and what he did came back.
"How so?" Keith asked in a concern tone.
"Well..." Yoka thought for a bit and debated whether or not he should tell the gecko about what happened and how he was gay. Well Keith was obviously not from around here, and if he knew, it's not like he would go around and tell the entire village. He was a stranger and was probably on his way out, so there was probably no harm in telling him.
"Well?" Keith asked, still concerned about Yoka.
"Well," Yoka started. Yoka shut his eyes tight and hoped that Keith wouldn't yell at him like how Yoshi did, "the thing is, that I'm gay. I had a crush on my best friend and when I told him about my love for him, he just yelled at me." Yoka was on the verge of tears and stuffed his face into his arms.
"I was hoping that he would at least accept the fact that I was gay, but he just yelled at me," Yoka continued crying now. "Why does love have to hurt so much? Why does it have to be so complicated?" Yoka asked, his head still buried in his arms.
"Yoka."
"Yes?" Yoka asked, lifting his head from his arms to look at Keith. Yoka suddenly felt Keith kiss him on the cheek. Yoka was caught completely off guard. He wanted to say something, anything really, but he couldn't form any of the words. Yoka tried thinking of how he felt, but he couldn't figure that out either.
"Who said love had to hurt or be complicated?" Keith gently whispered. Keith put his arm around Yoka's neck and Yoka leaned on Keith's shoulders. It felt nice and Yoka finally stopped crying.
"Keith," Yoka started, but stopped when Keith put a finger to his lip.
"Don't talk," Keith said smoothly, "let's enjoy this moment together and watch the sunrise." Yoka nodded and continued leaning on Keith's shoulder. Yoka felt a nice warm feeling wielding up inside of him. He enjoyed the feeling and he loved how Keith was there with him.
The two sat there and enjoyed the sunrise. The sunrise usually represented a new day, a fresh start, a chance to do something new, where anything could happen. To Yoka, it represented a new chapter in his life, a chapter where he starts fresh.
Keith sat there and enjoyed the sunset. It was a pretty nice view. He looked down to the sleeping fire lizard to his side and smirked. He chuckled quietly as he realized how easy it was to gain the trust of the animals in this town.
Keith's white eyes then focused on the blue necklace lying on the ground near the cliff edge. He gently put Yoka down and went to pick it up. He brought it up to his face and brushed some of the dirt off. Keith smiled as he realized what he was looking at. The gecko stuffed the necklace in his pocket and sat back down next to Yoka and admired the sunrise.
"So I'm assuming you got Aqua's Gem sir?" said a voice from out of nowhere.
"Yeah I got it Leon," Keith said casually without taking his eyes off the sunset, "Apparently you're scouts were wrong, neither of the Aqua turtles had it, it was this Ignis lizard here."
"I see" said a doberman spontaneously appearing next to Keith. The doberman had plain grey eyes and wore a simple grey jacket with a black undershirt and dark blue jeans to match. He had his hands in his jacket pockets and had a boring look on his face.
"So what are you going to do with the Water turtle at base and this Ignis lizard sir?" Leon asked.
"I think we can turn them into decent soldiers."
"I see, will they require any extra training?"
"Maybe, the Water turtle shows promise, this Ignis lizard however may need some work."
"Shall I train him for you sir?"
"There is no need Leon, I'll train this one myself."
"But sir," Leon started in a half worried expression, the other half looked like he was bored, "you do not need to take you're precious time to train such a weak looking animal."
"Looks can be deceiving Leon my friend," Keith replied coolly.
"So be it" Leon sighed in a defeated tone, "What shall we do about the city that lays before us sir?"
"Gather you're troops and lay waste to the city, these Animalians don't deserve to live the way they treat others," Keith said looking down at Yoka, "Just remember, some of these Animalians may have been exposed to the necklace giving them dormant powers they may activate near death, but I want them all dead today."
"No need to worry sir, and what of the relations of the ones we now foster?"
"Kill them especially." Keith answered with a smirk, "They deserve retribution the most."
