The unknown future
chapter 1)
after the comet hit the earth.
Everything was turned over.
Mankind changed, developing animal features.
Fur, tails, ears, legs and the snout were now on almost every person.
This was caused by the radiation given off by the comet.
60 percent died of this radiation, 25 percent changed.
And another 3 percent changed and went feral.
These feral's were extremely dangerous.
They were big, strong and had a well developed hunting instinct.
The humans that survived were mostly killed by these creatures.
The morphs on the other hand were quick and had good senses.
Being able to detect the feral's before they detected them.
Normal life was gone. Electricity and running water was a thing of the past.
Even if they repaired something electrical the static electricity from the comet that flowed
true the entire earth would short it out in an instant.
Life went back to the middle ages. Gold and copper were now the currency again.
With 1 gold being worth over a 1000 copper peaces.
Most would never even hold a gold peace and serenely not own one.
The population spread out and formed city's with walls to protect them
not only from the feral's but also the wildlife.
Animals were far from extinct. They thrived.
No more destruction by the human race allowed them to take back a lot of their territory.
As for the people who not lived in the city's lived on farms and such. A lot of the time in peace with the wildlife.
The feral's were almost never seen out in the wild lands. As they were attracted to the city's.
Still some of the morphs had it difficult not being able to afford living in the city's nor being able to farm or make stuff. A lot would starve and sometimes transform into a feral due to the hunger.
Others would do things people would go to jail for.
Witch brings us to a forest outside of Dronnar.
A road led true the forest, u could only hear the wind blow.
A bunny ran around looking for food, as was a squirrel jumping from branch to branch.
In the distance were three morphs approaching. A rat and two goat morphs.
The goats were caring a chest. And the rat ranting about how sore his feet and legs were.
The rat's complaining drove the goats half mad until one shouted.
"will u just shut you're mouth, we will be there in half an hour"
then the rat dropped to his knees. Head leaning forward.
Looking like he had given up completely.
The other goat said " common man get up. Its only a little wile longer so we can get paid"
the rat not moving nor giving an answer. They set the chest down and one of them took his shoulder.
The rat fell back. Not moving at all.
" what the fu.." one of the goats shouted after they saw a large pin penetrating his chest.
Straight true his hart. The rat never felt that he died.
Before the goats could run something dropped from the trees.
A flash of a shiny thing and then everything went black.
A large canine stood there.
A dagger in each hand. Both piercing there intended target.
With a swift motion he puled his daggers out of the corpses.
And wiping them clean on the peaces of cloth they wore as clothes.
Almost no sound was made in the process of killing these three.
The canine looked at his work and let out a small sniff.
He did not like this type of work. To easy. Killing a few thieves for hire.
"Wrong job fellas" he thought. Then walked to the chest. He opened it it was full of scroll's.
He dug true them until he found the one he was looking for .
A purple seal marked it as did the eagle on the seal.
He put the scroll in his pack and took out some matches.
and lit one up then threw it into the chest.
Letting all the other scroll's burn.
After the fire went out he left.
Knowing the feral's would clean up after him.
And in the shadows he disappeared.
........
Somewhere in the Forrest there was a fire burning.
At the fire sat a white striped tiger. A pure breed, something that was not seen all to often.
But she was not alone. There also was a dog.
A mixed breed. with animals most pure dogs and cat race's were gone.
Only the royals had them.
The dog lay at her side with his head on her lap.
Her tent strung between two trees behind her.
A bow and a few arrows lay against one of the trees.
She herself held a dagger, this was if one of the feral's came.
Thats why she had gray. His senses picked it up if a feral is near.
He alerts her by tapping his paw against her and barks if they get to close.
This makes it more comfortable for her to sleep.
She was sleeping in her tent.
Gray right besides her.
The fire was smoldering. Still emitting heat but most of the flames were gone
a dark figure was walking besides the tent.
The canine had seen the fire and waited for the right moment to come closer
Looking at the sleeping cat. He huffed. "a cat. That figures" he thought
The thing that surprised him was the dog besides her.
He never saw someone out here with a pet.
Most animals were to wild to tame and those who were tame belonged to the city people.
He looked a wile at the dog knowing what they could do.
The dog did not move. He sighted of re-leaf.
Continuing his search of the campsite for something of value.
But something is making him uncomfortable. Was it the dog?
His question was quickly answered. He felt something sharp poke in his back.
"well well, looky here, a stray mutt rummaging true my camp. what shall I do with him gray" the tiger said holding her dagger to his back. The dog growled stepping to face the canine.
"well, not everyday that someone can surprise me" the canine said wile slowly turning his face towards the cat.
"it so your own fault, people should know better than to underestimate animals" she spoke up
"now take out those weapons of your's and throw them towards the fire."
he slowly went to grab his daggers. Making sure not to threaten the dog so that he would not get bitten.
Getting bitten by an animal was one of the worst things that could happen to him now. At least a day and a half to the nearest city to get medical treatment. It would fester before he got there.
It could cost him his life, showing his every move he threw one dagger after the other.
"now turn around and put your hands on your head" she commanded.
As he did what he was told his face became illuminated by the little light the fire still provided.
A long wolf like mussel with two pointy ears and a amber glow to his mostly gray fur.
His eyes the same amber glow, full of fire.
The cat looking at him rather surprised. She expected a scruffy no life thief.
This guy was rather well looking like he actually took care of himself.
After realizing she was staring at him she ordered him to shuffle backwards to a three, the cat went for some rope in her tent as gray stood guard. It only took a minute to fully secure the canine to the oak behind him.
She put a few pieces of wood on the fire to get it going again.
Sitting beside the fire with gray laying at her side, his eyes not braking contact with the canine.
" so what were u trying to find in my camp"
the canine snorted " something of worth, maybe something to eat" he said not even bothering to lift his head to look at the cat. He was still thinking how he was caught so easily.
"no light, cat out cold, no sound" he mumbled " the dog. It had to be the dog"
"It was not the dog" she said "i was awake"
" i noticed u before i went into my tent. Lurking around."
"that is not possible" he said "no one has noticed me for a log time, and those who did never lived long."
the canine was distraught by the idea that a cat knew where he was before he even entered the camp . He, the skilled assassin outmatched so easily, that by a feline.
" I have lived in the Forrest's for years" the cat said. "with the feral's around u need to feel its presence to survive. U were easy to detect. Like u did not even try."
the canine's head fell down in disbelieve. He went silent.
The cat trying in getting his attention but it seemed like he was gone into his own thoughts.
She gave up after a wile and went to sleep . Gray followed her but still kept his head outside of the tent to keep an eye on the tied up intruder.
Hour's passed and the sun came back into view.
The canine grunted. He had hardly any sleep because he was tied up.
His arms and legs numb. The strain on his back.
He lifted his head to get a look around himself, thats wen he noticed the feline looking at his daggers in awe.
"be careful with those blades" he said " they are extremely sharp."
the feline looked up to the tied up wolf.
"these are cobalt titanium Damascus."
"where did u find these?"
"i only have seen this alloy in long swords belonging to royalty"
" I got them from my mentor." he said "6 years ago just before he past away"
"that was the last person that gave anything about me. I have been on my own ever since. These blades helped me in everything, protection, hunting and jobs, well till now"
"i...i...." the feline tried to say something but she saw the depressed face of the wolf. She could see the disappointment he had in that one expression.
"wha... whats your name?" she asked
"why would you like to know? You already caught me."he said with a defeated tone.
"well I would like to know who I am talking to"
the canine sighted. "Jonathan"
this caught the feline by surprise.
" that is actually a beautiful name, I am Thea by the way. And u may have heard but this is gray."
gray barked, still standing attention at the tent.
Now that the sun was up Jonathan could could see the dog better.
Grey looked more like a wolf than a dog yet smaller than a wolf.
He did not look aggressive at all. More like a cute pet.
Still he did not trust him. It could still be dangerous.
Thea asked a few more questions to figure out who he is, but to no avail.
After a wile she gave up and started doing her own things like packing up camp.
It only took her half an hour to pack everything.
She put out the still smoldering fire and sat down facing Jonathan.
"what are u staring at" he said.
"at you. I am thinking what to do with you"
" I need to go to Agrar, thats a 2 week walk. Don't know if I should leave you hanging here or take you with me."
the canine wanted to say something but was cut off by her.
" leaving you here would be the easy thing, but that would mean certain death.
On the other hand taking him with me could also be useful. He can carry the backpack.
What do you think Grey?" she looked at the dog and he just tilted his head.
"Pack mule It is" she said, she then picked up the daggers and held them an his throat.
"try anything and you are a goner, understand" she said in a firm tone.
Jonathan swallowed knowing how sharp those blades were and gave her a nod.
She untied him and he fell to the ground.
Thea made a noose out of the rope and put it around his neck.
"that is so u won't run away with my stuff." she swung her water flask in front of him.
"here drink some, its going to be a long walk"
"thanks, can I say one thing?" he asked
"sure but make it quick"
"well" he said " 50 meters that way in the tree is my own pack of supply's. It would be a waste to leave it there"
"and what is in that pack? More weapons?"
"food, water, a few spare garments and cooking supply's. U can check it yourself"
"ok" she said "put on the pack and we will get yours as well. But remember, no funny business."
he nodded. He took a few sips of water and gave the flask back,
then he proceeded to do as he was told.
Better to do what she asks then to be left out here. He thought.
Indeed after the 50 meters up in the tree was his pack.
She searched true the pack if there was anything in there that could be used as weapon. The only thing coming close were a fork and knife.
There was also some food and water present. But not to much.
"well its like u said. Here u go. I suppose you know the way to Agrar."
he nodded "east from here until the river"
" on you go then" she said.
With that they were on there way.
A trip that would change both of them.
End of part one of "the unknown future".
