#2 of Harmonious Pursuit

Later that day, Gael looked over at Peirce during class, but unlike usual, Peirce acted to be absorbed in his schoolwork. Gael knew this was an attempt to ignore him, since Peirce did very little work at school. Gael sighed, and looked down at the desk.

At the end of the day, Gael watched as Peirce walked quickly out of the school before he could talk to him. At that point, he knew that the hyena would not talk to him. He packed the rest of his books into his bag, the guilt being hard to bear, and picked up the bag, walking out of the building and looking down at the ground as he walked. He didn't want to go to work that day, but he knew that he had to. He walked to work, the same little gas station.

"Hello Abby..." Gael muttered, getting back behind the counter. He took his work outfit out of his bag, and switched shirts right there.

"Something wrong?" Abby, a black terrior, asked. Abby was nice, often helpful, and somewhere in her late 30's.

"My best friend is mad at me." Gael explained, taking a box of the various candies, and went to go restock them.

"What happened?" Abby asked, as a female rabbit walked in, and approached the counter.

"$10.00 of gas on pump 3." The rabbit said. Abby rang it up on the register.

"Okay. Thank you." Abby replied. The rabbit nearly nodded, and walked out.

"Well, he's insulted because I had sex with a guy that did some bad things to him." Gael sighed, and continued to restock the shelves.

"Oh. Well maybe you should apologize." Abby suggested.

"I would, but..." Gael trailed off as their manager, a bear by the name of Arthur. Arthur was strict, and mean. He looked over at Gael, and walked over to Gael, standing over the wolf ominously. Gael gulped silently, and continued to work. Arthur kicked the box out of Gael's arm. Gael stopped, and looked up at Arthur, with a bit of fear at the large bear.

"Well?! Pick it up!" Arthur exclaimed, and Gael scrambled to pick the scattered items up off the floor. Arthur placed a foot on Gael's back, forcing the wolf to the floor. Gael, in shock, squeezed the candybar he was holding in his paw at the moment. The bear walked infront of Gael, and glared into the wolf's eyes. "Listen, fag. There are atleast ten or twenty people that would kill for your position if I fired you. So, you better do pretty damn well, or I will find a reason to fire you, you pathetic, weakling fag." He growled. He grabbed the crushed candybar. "By the way, this comes out of your paycheck." He took the candybar and slammed it into Gael's face. "Now get to work." The bear got up, and looked over at Abby, who was pretending she didn't see anything, and walked back into his office.

Gael wiped the chocolate off of his face, and continued to work.

"I'm sorry...." Abby commented.

"It's okay." Gael replied.

"Why don't you do anything about it?" She asked.

"Because I need this job, or I can't survive. If he fires me, I have no choice but to plead to my parents to let me live with them again. If they do allow me to live there, I'll have to become everything they want me to, and give up my individuality. I'd rather die." The wolf commented. "And dealing with this everyday is nothing."

At nine o'clock, Gael tredged home, and walked into his apartment. He walked into his bedroom, took a single blanket and wrapped up in it and began to cry. When a knock came at his door, he dried his eyes, and rose to the door. He opened the door. It was Boris, the landlord. Boris was a horse, and he was staring Gael down, with a glare.

"Can I help you?" Gael asked.

"You're late on your rent." Boris noted.

"But I just payed you two days ago!" Gael complained.

"I never got it, so as far as I'm concerned, you never paid." He said. He grabbed Gael, and forced Gael into the hallway. "This is your last time being late on the rent. Find somewhere else to live, and I'll send you your stuff."

Gael went out onto the street, and whimpered. He looked around as he try to decide what to do, and walked into the back alley. He sat down, and huddled in his blanket, and cried. Shortly after, he had inadvertantly fallen asleep in the alley.

Waking up that morning, he shook his head to regain his senses. "Oh, crap." He cursed, getting up, and checking his watch. "Ten minutes till school starts..." He walked to school, and quickly shoved the blanket into his locker, and slipped into homeroom quickly. He sat down next to Peirce, but Peirce got up, and walked to the other side of the room. A lion approached the wolf, and sat next to Gael.

"Hello there. My name is Devin..." The lion greeted.

"Go away!" Gael exclaimed, looking down at the desk and putting his paws over his face.

"I could make everything better..." Devin suggested. Gael just looked over at Devin. "Meet me after school, and I'll help you..." the lion said. Gael looked interested....
