The Castle (Excerpt from Shenyo's Life 2)
#1 of Shenyo's Life
There was some sort of movement. Something was picking him up, and he soon felt the cold rain hitting his back. Someone was carrying him. Had all of that been a dream? Was he knocked out by the guards again? No. There were still pulses of pleasure emanating from his neck, reluctant to fade. The memory set him off.
In an instant his limp body tensed and sent a knee hard into the person who had him over their shoulder. A male voice cried out in pain as he doubled over, allowing Shenyo to drop to his feet, then crack across the man's face with his fist. The blow sent him toppling over.
Though his vision was still blurry, Shenyo turned to face the direction he had been heading. And found the small pink haired woman several yards ahead of him. Her head was tilted, a curious look on her face.
"Now how did you wake up? You should have been out for hours." She did not seem to care much for the person unconscious on the ground.
The response Shenyo gave her was a deep, dangerous growl. But it trailed off as flashes of lightning illuminated the structure behind her. They were only a few hundred yards away from the largest castle he had ever seen.
The entrance composed of two wooden doors that reached two stories in height, and could easily allow an entire parade of horse drawn carriages through if need be.
There were no windows on the first floor, but on the second there were small ones, not enough for a man to get through, and on the third there were expansive, luxurious ones. Defense did not seem to be their top priority. The length of the structure almost seemed to be a mile long, but in his current state Shenyo could not believe such a thing.
It was then the lightning cracked again, lighting the seven distinct circular towers. They were made in sets, the first two, the shortest, near the front. The next set was taller, a third taller still, and finally the seventh tower stood alone at the very back, the tallest of them all.
"You like?" The woman's soft voice came from beside him suddenly, her arms wrapped around his right one. He couldn't help but jump a little in surprise. He hadn't even seen her move.
As he tried to take a step back his vision wavered. Perhaps he had lost too much blood after all. Yet the creature who did it was holding onto him as if they were lovers.
"Who the hell are you?" He shook his head. He already knew that. "I mean, why are you doing this? Why would you take so many people in just to be food for you? Haven't they suffered enough?" A vampire needed a steady source of blood, that he knew for certain. There was simply no other reason for this.
Yet she laughed. "My little one, you need to rest. You're adorable when you tired and mad." She grinned, showing her fangs, before nuzzling his arm.
Be careful. The voice commented, cutting through the haze in his mind. She is more powerful than she appears. I do not need you dying on me now. It was, as always, optimistic about his performance. At least it wasn't being as negative as usual.
"Just, get off of me." Shenyo growled at her, raising his other arm back to strike her. "I'm warning you, vampire." There was no response, only more nuzzling. Strike her.
Reluctantly, he lowered his arm. If she was going to hurt him she already would have. That and she was acting rather strangely. She was being affectionate as if they had known each other for quite some time. To his knowledge he had only heard her name in passing, but never met her.
Once she was fully satisfied with showing her fondness of him, she spoke. "Let me bring you inside. You need to get cleaned up and given fresh clothes." As they began to walk she pulled the man into the air with only a gesture to have it follow along behind them. Despite how strange of a sight it was, his attention quickly turned to the immense wealth displayed within the castle.
Thick, blood red carpets lined the hallways. Just ahead of them were two symmetrical stairways that curved outward into a semi-circle shape and led up to the third floor. On the dark grey walls were gold plated pictures every few feet or so. This was expected at this point, but the subject matter of them was not. Some were scenery, but most were portraits of Sakura smiling or otherwise happy and excited. It was a little strange.
Shenyo refrained from commenting, only watching as the guards just inside the door spoke with Sakura, taking the man he had knocked out. They seemed annoyed at her.
"I would find you your own room, but I already know the one you'll be sleeping in as long as you're here." She spoke with a mischievous smile, and proceeded to tug him up the stairs whether he liked it or not.
Although he assumed it would be the third floor that was their destination, they continued to walk for quite a long time through the halls to the back of the castle. There were rooms everywhere, with each door a specific color. Red rooms appeared to be bedrooms, blue were bathrooms, and green appeared to be random. There were several other colors as well, but they were so sparse that none of them had been left ajar for him to look in while passing.
At one point, Shenyo felt the need to speak. "Why is everyone so friendly here?" There were countless people moving about, yet none of them were in uniforms that he could see. "They speak to you so informally. If you weren't all over the walls, I would ask if you truly were the mistress of this castle."
Sakura could only laugh, and pulled him closer. "Oh my little one, you will learn. This is not a place of slavery. It is a place of salvation. I allow them to do as they please, without fear of being caught and forced to do anything they don't want to." Her voice was full of honesty, and full of love. She was telling the truth.
It was this truth however, that didn't' make sense to him. Vampires had always been evil, terrible creatures. They had never done anything helpful for a single mortal. His own experiences with them were proof of that. Why would this one want to help? How could she resist the urges of her existence?
"Why?" He stopped, managing to pull away from her. "Why would you do this? This isn't what your kind do. You murder, you rape. You destroy lives and families and savor every moment of it! This doesn't make any sense, what do you gain from this?" Shenyo rubbed his head, still feeling dizzy. This was all simply too much.
Yet Sakura did not return his angry, hate filled words. She merely smiled and slid in front of him, wrapping her arms around his waist. "You will learn. All you need is time. When you see their happiness, you will know why I do this." She kissed his chest lightly before taking his hand and leading him on. Even though he had more to say, the kiss had silenced him.
Even longer they walked, eventually coming to one of the few silver doors he had seen. Upon opening it he realized it led upward into one of the towers. Specifically, the door led to the seventh, tallest tower. What was up there could only be guessed at, but he had a good idea. His suspicions were confirmed as they reached the top. Sakura's master bedroom. The carpeting in here was the same kind, except black instead of red. The king sized bed she possessed had a square canopy above it, allowing her to close the curtains to create a pitch black atmosphere despite the sun outside. This, in retrospect, was rather necessary for something such as herself.
"Do you like?" She inquired sweetly as she led him further, watching him as he looked over the various dressers, cabinets, and the single table with two chairs. "I love the view from up here. It's so very beautiful when the moon is bright."
Glancing out one of the four windows in the circular room, he was finally able to see just where he was. They were atop a massive hill, where it almost seemed as if the top was cut cleanly in a horizontal fashion for the placement of the castle. There was also a sheer cliff behind it, and small lights at the very bottom of the hill. A small village existed there, it seemed.
In the very center of the castle he noticed there was a large square hole, where a garden with various trees and flowers had been planted. Perhaps it was made to allow them to go outside, while still being safe within the walls of the castle.
As he turned back to her to speak again, he was surprised by what he saw. In her hands was a bucket, a towel, and a rather large sponge. "Time to clean you up, my-" Shenyo cut her off.
"Stop calling me that. My name is Shenyo, and I am not your pet." It was a bit harsh, but he was getting sick of the way she spoke of him as nothing more than an object. Even he could tell she meant no harm by it, but he was still unsettled by everything that had been going on.
Still, she did not miss a beat. "Mmm, my Shenny." She corrected herself. "Now then, its time to clean you." Without warning she pulled him down to the ground, sat on his chest, and began to slowly rub him down.
"H-Hey! Stop-" Shenyo instantly began to struggle, but was frozen still as her lips pressed against his own, her hands gently sliding up to cup his face as only a lover would. Left blinking and surprised, she merely smiled to him after she pulled back. Slowly she began to wash him again, this time without protest.
Eventually, as she began to move lower and lower along him, he did have a question. "Why are you treating me this way? You don't even know who I am. All you know is my name." Her reply began in a laugh.
"My silly little...Shenny. Of course I know who you are. Even though most of what you do is only for small groups of people I hear many interesting stories. You have done many things to help others without expecting a single thing in return. Yet you also kill those who are merely blemishes upon this world." She grinned. "I knew who you were from the moment I saw your cute little ears."
Shenyo wasn't sure what to say in return. She spoke the truth about him. Though he did not know for certain why he did what he did, he knew it felt right. Whether it was saving someone, or killing someone he perceived to be evil, he simply did what he felt had to be done. With the voice added in, it was a confusing life.
"It is also your blood. I have never tasted anything like it. I felt wonderful from only a drop of it and when I drank deeply...I felt alive again." She shivered from the mere thought of it and began trailing her nails along his jaw line. "This castle is becoming too much for me. I have been looking for someone to share it with that I know I can trust. With blood like yours as well, you are certainly the one I choose."
Despite his urge to throw her off, he knew he had to think about this. The life she offered was one that would help people. These people were clearly happy. Who was he to pass it up? Even if he feared her kind, he could find no greater guilty pleasure than letting them sink their fangs into him. A clear love/hate relationship.
Breathing deeply he could feel his mind and body recover. With that came an idea. "We will see." Quickly his tail wrapped around her waist, yanking her into the air before throwing her into the bed. Leaping to his feet he glanced to the window, before looking to her again.
Sakura was already perched on her knees, watching him as one would their prey. "Oh? Are you going to try things out here? If I had known, I wouldn't have bothered wasting time." She wanted more of his blood, he could tell. Then to taste the rest of what he had to offer. Unfortunately for her, that time would not come just yet.
"You still need to prove something to me, before I call you anything more than a vampire. And I have just the way of doing it." Sakura was beautiful, kind, and intelligent. Though she was controlling and vain, everyone had their downfalls. Had he been any other man in any other circumstances he wouldn't have even thought to reject her. However there was a trait in particular that mattered to Shenyo. In truth it was the most important out of any. And he intended to find out if she had it no matter what the risk.
The only thing he wasn't sure of in this entire situation, was how much what he was about to do was going to hurt. Slowly he began to walk towards her, a grin upon his lips. Just as he was about to touch the bed he turned, dug in his feet, and charged
If she had said anything, he wasn't able to hear her over the sound of breaking glass around him. Nor did he pay much attention as he focused on leaping as far out as he could, body spinning and twisting through the air as the rain covered him once more. His goal was in reach, he simply had to make the landing.
