Chapter Two: Friends?

Streak guided Tye through the maze of corridors of the school, making abrupt turns left and right, explaining to him all of the rooms they were passing, from the science labs and the library to the office and canteen.

"Of course no one ever eats here, we usually just go into town...Hey, are you listening to me?" It was only now that Streak noticed that Tye hadn't spoken a word since he started giving him a tour and noticed the blush that was still present on Tye's face. Streak glanced down and realised he was still holding the folf's paw and quickly let go, a blush starting to appear on his face

"Erm, sorry about that...got, er, over keen! That's the word!" The folf just smirked slightly at the fox was getting so flustered over the smallest of things. 'This fox is kinda cute...Wonder if he...Oh stop thinking like that! You know what happened last time you confided THAT information to someone...' Tye thought to himself 'Although, he seems nice enough...Maybe I've found someone that will like me for me...Maybe...' Streak just watched the folf in amusement, as he looked expectantly at him. Tye suddenly realised that the fox was looking at him, and realised that he had been so deep in thought that he didn't notice the fox asking him a question.

"Sorry, Streak, I zoned out there" Tye laughed nervously, "What was the question?" Streak just giggled silently to himself 'Wow this one is adorable! Better hold onto him...' "I said 'What class do you have next?'". Quickly the folf searched for his timetable in his backpack and started to examine it.

"Er, let's see here...Looks like I've got...Chemistry next" Streak couldn't contain his excitement and let out a small squeal of joy, but quickly regained his composure

"Same as me then! Come on, I'll take you to the classroom, but we'd better hurry, the teacher hates it when anyone is late".

They arrived through the door just in time for the late bell to ring. "Just in time, gentlemen, although I'd prefer it if next time you were a tad earlier." Said the slightly elderly lion, with a hint of a smirk on his face, who Tye presumed to be the teacher. As Streak made his way over to his desk, he quietly whispered to Tye

"Hey, no one usually sits next to me. Was wondering if maybe you wanted to?" The folf struggled to contain a smile on his face as he thought to himself 'He really does like me! As a friend at least...I'd forgotten what this felt like, the warmth of friendship...'

"Of course I'll sit next to you. I'm sure you can help me, I'm not that great in Chemistry" admitted Tye.

"I love helping people. You never know, perhaps I could even tutor you at some point!" 'Nice going Streak, you sounded way too keen there...He might suspect something!'

"Yeah, that would be nice" smiled Tye.

"Right class, turn to page one hundred and twenty..."

"I swear to God, chemistry just gets more and more confusing for me" groaned Tye as he made his way out of the classroom with Streak.

"I dunno, Tye, it seemed pretty easy to me" taunted Streak, earning him a light punch from Tye.

"Oh well, we have lunch now. Hey Tye, did you wanna, I dunno, have lunch with me? I mean it's just going into town but y'know, as you don't know the area, I thought it would be good to show you the area" babbled Streak 'If that hasn't hinted at the thing you didn't want him to know, then I don't know what will. Please God, let him be dense...Let him not pick up on it...'

"As long as it's not a date, Streak" said Tye with a smirk on his maw.

"NO! Of course it isn't! I mean I'm not gay or anything! So why would it be a date?!" 'God, is he cute when he's desperately denying stuff...I wonder...No get that thought out of your head Tye! Don't ruin perhaps the only friendship you will make here!"

"C'mon Streak I was kidding...Show me the way to lunch! I am absolutely starving!"

Lunch was a fairly standard ordeal for the two, simply sharing anecdotes from their past, Streak giving Tye advice about which teachers can take jokes, and which would give you a detention simply for breathing. Neither noticed the glances at each other when the other wasn't looking. Eventually, the two realised that they should get back to school for after lunch lessons, and it was only then that they realised that they had different classes now.

"Thanks Streak for buying me lunch and showing me around and all that. No one's really done that for me before" Tye said, with his ears lowering a bit as he remembered his past.

"Hey don't go getting sad on me! I got you to smile today, and when I first saw you today I thought you would never smile! So keep smiling, eh?"

"Fine...If I absolutely have to" Tye said reluctantly.

"Good. And maybe I'll see you after class?" Said Streak voice, his full of hope.

"Yeah, maybe". And with that, they parted and went their separate ways for afternoon classes.

Tye made his way back to his house, still getting used to the new roads and getting lost a few times before finally getting his bearings and, half an hour later than he should've done, entered into his house, only to be met by the silence of the absence of any life. Sighing to himself, he slumped down on the couch and smiled, started thinking about the events that had followed after school.

Streak had given him the tour of the town, the best places to eat, the places to avoid at night and the local park, where he and Streak had laid on the grass together in silence, just enjoying each other's company. Eventually, Tye spoke. "Streak?"

"Yeah, Tye?"

"I know I've only known you for a day, but we're friends aren't we?"

"Of course, Tye. Today has been one of the best day's I've ever had"

"Same here ,Streak. Thanks"

"What for?"

"For helping me today. For showing me round. For being my friend when no one else would"

"I don't know what's happened to you in your past, but I can tell something bad has happened. And I just want to help you"

"Thanks Streak" and with that, Streak reached out next to him and held Tye's paw in his own.

"Any time, Tye. Any time."
