LiM Ch9: The Calm Before the Storm
#9 of LiQUID METAL
If you don't like guys, girls, furres, sex or love, violence (Not in yiff) or if you're too young (18, 21 in some places, just ask the police "Hey, am I allowed to read sexy bisexual furre stories on the net?") or any of that, CLOSE TEH WINDOW NOWS! All characters are copyright me, Shinkada, and are used with my permission, with the exception of Coda, who is copyrighted to Coro, and used with his permission. This story is a bit mushy at times, so if you don't want lurve, buzz off. Anyone who bugs me "OMG MORE YIFF PLOX" will get castrated by Okhami himself. I put in enough of it already to get you off AT LEAST once per every few chapters. If you're still not satisfied take a cold shower. ***'s represent a change of scenery or time. ---'s represent a non-critical yiff scene, fan service to shut up the wailing masses. Please, sit back, relax, and enjoy the story without whining about it. It's a good story. I like it. A sidenote; if you'd like to write a story set in the same universe as this, by all means, feel free. As long as you give me credit for it, as long as you inform me that you're going to do it via e-mail ([email protected]), and as long as you don't try and mess with my, or Coro's character/s, I don't mind. In fact if someone good writes a story I'd be quite honoured. Just make sure you tell me first, and don't mess anything up. (Wow, coming back to LiM after so long sure was interesting. It was amusing looking back and seeing how many of the ideas from this I subconsciously went on to use even now. For one, I didn't even remember I used the name Alex in this as well. Just goes to show how unoriginal I can be, hahah. That and I find the name Alexia to be the absolute prettiest name a female can have. But oh well. That and Alex has a lot of strange similarities in looks to Kyo's Drake form. Will wonders never cease? I again apologize for all the time this' taken to come back to. But hopefully, from now, for anyone still reading from last time, it'll be smooth sailing 'till the end! Interestingly enough, after re-reading Ch1&2, I've decided that I -AM- happy with them afterall. They're a bit short, but still good, so screw it. It's all good. Oh, also note, this chapter was originally meant to be Venter's cameo, but since me and his owner have fought since then, I guess there's no point struggling to keep his cameo in there.) -Shinkada * * *
LiQUID METAL
- * * **\ **CHAPTER 9: The Calm Before the Storm* *** She hadn't come out of her room since we'd arrived on Praxedis. We were in a two-bedroom, and she'd taken the back room, meaning she had to come through mine to get out... And she hadn't gone out once. I sighed softly, taking a bite from the large chunk of steak I'd ordered. 'Normally, steak is a delicacy..,' I thought to myself, looking over the chunk of medium-rare meat. 'Most meat is... But... Ever since the Drake War, the amount of meat taken from deceased furres on the market rose, although it's still very expensive.' Taking another bite, I smiled sadly as I chewed, talking very quietly. "Even if it is delicious... This is the result of someone who fought hard... Not a very dramatic way to go..." Sighing, I took the last bite, placing the tray down on the trolley the food had come in, grabbed my coat and left the room to the cold midnight air. *** 'He... Left...' She sat down on his bed, a single tear dripping down a scale as she looked over his empty tray. 'Gone out' was inscribed, simply, on the tray by denting the metal. She smiled a little at this. 'The staff won't be happy... Just to tell me he'd gone out?' She slid a paw over the dents in the tray, fixing them with a glancing thought, before getting up to return to her own room. "So much for asking him..." *** I sighed softly as I walked down one of the many beaches of Praxedis. The whole planet was a mix between Vegas-style flashing cities, and the kind of Vegas rip-off shoreline towns you might see in Hawaii that, while a congregation of capitalist gambling schemes, also had that air of Tropicana about them. Filled with those kind of small casinos where everyone wears Hawaiian shirts and cheats profusely. I wiped my brow with the back of one wrist - it also had the heat that Hawaii was notorious for, I noted to myself. I sighed softly as I looked towards the packed streets; it was one of those nights where I was just noticing nobody but all the happy couples that walked around, arm in arm. I wasn't normally one for that kind of lonely self pity, but that was just the kind of mood I was in now. I sighed and shook my head, and turned, walking further towards the shoreline and away from the streets. At least I tried to if not for the giggling couple, oblivious to my presence, making out in the sand. I grumbled to myself and quickly walked away, heading away from them and along the shoreline. "Damn furs," I grumbled, idly kicking a rock into the water. At the very least the sand felt nice beneath my footpads, and the wind, cooler out here so close to the ocean, felt good through my fur and hair. I sighed yet again, running a paw up to my head, running it through the fur on my forehead then up and through my head fur. I couldn't help but growl again as I heard a girlish scream from the couple I'd passed a while ago. "Bitch's probably getting raped," I grumbled, almost surprising myself that I'd be so harsh even in one of my more venomous moods. I rolled my eyes and grumbled, before turning around to see what was wrong. Instead of the salivating wolf like I was expecting, all's I saw was both of them, wide eyed, staring over at the city. I blinked a few times, and after a moment my vision joined theirs on the city, and the high, violent flames it now contained. In a flash, without thinking much about it, I shifted the insides of my leg around a bit and with a huge mechanical clank, I'd propelled myself into the air, not only rapidly making my way to the city but also getting a birds-eye view for a moment. Just enough to see another building explode and erupt into flames. With a determined nod, I landed with a huge crash on the sidewalk, chips of concrete flying up, just in front of the beach, stopping my fall by temporarily converting most of my body to pure metal, before reverting it to normal and sprinting off in the direction of the newest fires. The fire department would be on the old fires in seconds, it was the new ones that had to be taken care of. I got lucky, however, because as soon as I started approaching the more recently attacked buildings, I saw a heavily-robed fur darting out of one building, and straight into the next. Another building exploded just as he did, about a block in the direction he seemed to be coming from. "That's our guy," I grumbled to myself, before sprinting in after him. The building was already evacuated - obviously, being so close to Korshal, Praxedis had to have good defense measures. "Just what's the purpose of doing this if everyone's already gone?" I asked myself as I looked around for a trace of where he went, before I found it in the form of a blade coming up against my neck. A normal blade, I noted, not a laser. "One move and you're dead you furry piece of shit," a gruff voice said from behind me. I looked at his hands - they were strange, naked. Devoid of fur. For a moment this puzzled me, before the obvious hit me. "Ah, a human huh. What a coincidence that we speak the same language?" I said, trying my best to act like I had a hint of fear in my voice, and stall for time and information. "That's no coincidence you stupid fucker. Lord Above, you don't even know where you got your own damn language from," he practically snarled and pressed the blade tighter to my throat. "What do you humans want?" I asked, ignoring his strange comment, almost grinning as I managed to put a slight shake into my voice. "Easy. We want what's ours. And we'll do anything to get you disgusting freaks out," he said, pushing the blade until it just barely began to draw blood. I wanted more information, but any more would be a bit too much of a risk to myself. Any more information would have to come a fair deal less willingly. With a glancing thought, my neck not only sealed its own wound, but then turned to metal and grabbed the blade from his paw. He let out a strange noise somewhere between a quick yell and a terrified yelp and jumped back, making it much easier for me to take the blade from him as his hand just lost its grip entirely. I turned to him, smirking as I let the blade drop into one paw, then let it melt into a small puddle on the floor, the rubber that had covered the hilt sitting in the middle of the silvery pool. He looked at me for a few moments, obviously trying to keep up with what had happened, before he drew what looked like a blocky blaster from his side and fired a few shots at me. I instinctually dodged, although one shot hit me square in the shoulder. I looked at for a moment while I was on the ground, having dived down, before bursting into laughter. The human stared at me a few moments, before he unloaded a few more shots into me. I just kept laughing, honestly unable to move from laughing too much. Soon his shots turned to empty clicks and he dropped the gun, stepping back once. This just made me laugh more. "Ohhh man! You guys sure are unlucky! You use metal as projectiles? It's just not your day up against me. And it has limited munitions? Ouch! Hahahah!" I burst out, having to gasp in between words to quell my laughing. He was just about to turn and run before my arm quickly thinned out, lashing out to let my paw grab him around the neck and haul him back. He looked at me with what could only be described as terror, but I'm not THAT much of a jerk. I metalized™ my paw and gave him a good thunk on the head, KOing him instantly, just as Alex and a full police squad burst through the doors. I winked at her and brushed a large bang of purple hair from my face, earning a roll of her eyes as she called off the police and signaled them to grab the guy. With a nod I handed the human to them and they were gone, leaving us. "Well, a 'good job' is in order, I suppose," she said, giving me a friendly smile I hadn't seen in a while. I smiled back and shrugged, thickening my tail a into a lizard-like one and using it as a prop to lean back on, a habit I'd rapidly developed since my 'change'. "No problem, he was a pushover. Someone's going to have to report to Grant about this, would you prefer it be you or me?" I asked, not really looking at her as I brushed some hair from my eyes. She scowled a little - she hated it when I didn't give her my full attention - and shrugged right back. "I'm sure you're eager to talk to him as always, and you don't really need to go through the details with me, so you may as well tell him directly." I nodded, agreeing but having wanted to ask her anyway, and pulled out a small holo-disk, paw pads arcing across the pad to dial up Grant's number. When he answered, I almost had a heart attack. Holo-disks aren't really holograms. They're basically just really fancy, high-tech camera phones that take 3D pictures by using multiple cameras. But since they're 3D they're called holodisks anyway. So when Grant picked up the disk, I got a damn nice view of his well-toned, naked, furry chest, and the furre in bed beside him. The MALE furre in bed beside him, my mind added. All's I could do was stare, wide-eyed; Alex did the same. Grant, obviously just woken up, looked behind him, staring for a moment, before he turned around and moved the holodisk to be in front of him so the other furre was off camera; there was a slight tint of red on his gray cheeks as he cleared his throat. "This better be good," he grumbled nonchalantly. I composed myself quickly - I nearly always strived to look professional in front of Grant - and saluted with my spare paw. "Sir, Praxedis was just attacked by a human. I've come up with some critical information about the threat they pose," I said sternly. This definitely got his attention - and Alex's, as I heard her shuffle up behind me. "Everyone's fine I assume?" Grant asked as he rubbed his now much more alert eyes, reaching over to grab his glasses as he balanced his holodisk on his knees. "Mostly, Sir. He was a lone operative, running from building to building with timed explosives. I think it was more a threat than anything else, or he would've blown them all up at once. It's like he was just trying to get our attention..." "A diversion?" "No, I don't think so. We would've heard news of other attacks by now if it were..," I replied - even though I'd thought about this, I still had no idea why someone wouldn't just hit everything at once. "Oh well, Praxedis would've saved as many as possible. The threat, go on, what is it, was he tougher than expected?" Grant asked, obvious he was getting impatient for the real info. "Quite the opposite, General. If this one is anything to go by, the humans are... Absolutely no threat. It seems they haven't even gotten into Laser technology yet. He shot at me with the metal pellets we haven't used in years, and tried to cut me with a metal blade. Even their explosives were small, each one was only just enough to take down one building," I finished, shaking my head a bit. The whole situation made no sense and had given me several headaches so far. Grant, likewise, didn't seem to have anything to say. "He hit me at first, and I was worried... When I realized that it was metal and was, ESPECIALLY to me, harmless, I was laughing so hard he hit me at least another ten times. Even on a normal soldier it'll bounce right off their armour without the least bit of effort. In fact, I'd heavily advise putting everyone in Heavy Armour when we assault. They won't be able to touch us," I said, taking some pride in the idea that I'd thought of. "Maybe if they all have those primitive metal weapons," Grant quickly snapped back, obviously irritated by the confusing situation. "But it doesn't make sense. How could they all have metal weapons, yet at the same time have a prototype Ion Cannon Satellite? It has to be some kind of trick. If it really ends up that they only have metal weaponry we can easily have everyone re-fitted on-site, but if it ends up being a trick and everyone's in Heavy Armour then we'll have a lot of unnecessary losses. No, I'm not taking a risk like that," Grant finished sternly. I nodded, a little disappointed he didn't like my idea, but he had a point. "But, thank you, Okhami. This information will be most helpful IF it turns out to be accurate. Is there anything else to report?" "N-... Oh, yes, one thing, Sir." I said, suddenly remembering what the human had said. "The human said something about... Reclaiming what was theirs, and getting us 'out', or something... Oh, and he said something about us not knowing where our own language came from. He was speaking in English," I said as I tried to recall everything the human had said to be. Grant pondered this, before nodding. "I'd heard rumours that the humans spoke English, but they were never set in stone. There's going to be a few conspiracy theorists that'll be happy with this information. Thanks again, Okhami. That's all?" "That's all... Uh, Sir." "Very well. Good job, Okhami. Just don't forget to pop out those metal pellets he used and let some tech professionals study them. Remember, your ship leaves for Korshal in... 13 days now, right? Yeesh, you only just got there and you've already found trouble," Grant finished with a laugh. It was then I noticed how the colour had returned to his eyes. He looked MUCH better than he had just a day earlier. I nodded with a smile, and saluted once again. "We'll try to dig up any more rats for you, Sir... No offense..," I said with a wink. Grant sucked in his lip a little in an expression of mock frustration, and with a returned wink he turned the disk off - my own automatically shut off as his did. "Wow, you sure can be professional when you want to," Alex said from behind me. When I turned, she was smiling, and like Grant had recovered a fair bit from when I'd last really looked at her. I returned her smile, and leaned back on my tail once again as I formed my paw into a brush and began combing out what I'd messed up from the small bout. Yeah, I know, I can be a real pretty boy. "Well, thanks. I mostly save that side of me for Grant, though, so don't expect to see it around too much," I replied, really looking like a pretty boy now as I smirked at Alex and brushed through my fur. She raised one Draconic eye ridge at me for a moment before rolling her eyes, mimicking me and leaning back on her tail, running an imaginary brush over her scales as her hair moved around to mimic my own, even changing its colour to purple. I blinked a few times, before my snout widened a bit and became more lizard like, and my tongue likewise changed to become lizardish as I poked it out at her, clenching my eyes. She laughed for a moment, before her face went serious. I blinked a bit, although absently continued to brush my fur. "Okhami... There's something I wanted to talk to you about..," she said. All the humour had gone from her voice; I was beginning to notice she had a habit of randomly dropping subjects to discuss serious matters. "Sure, shoot," I said casually, although I gave her my best 'I'm Listening' look. "I... Well, I... It's horribly inappropriate, considering I'm your captain and trainer, but..," she stuttered out, and, she did something I hadn't seen in a long while - she blushed. It's pretty obvious when a black-scaled Dragon blushes, let me tell you. Or any Dragon for that matter. Not only do they blush (rumour is Red dragons, and those close to them, actually blush teal, although the only close-to-common Dragons are black, so I didn't really know), the extra heat to their head actually makes them puff a little bit of smoke. Definitely an amusingly cute look. I gave her a confident smirk as I finally remembered to pop out the bullets the human had emptied into me, taking out the 13 (one had missed - a clip of 14, I noted) bullets and pocketing them. "But... Would you like to grab a coffee, sometime?" She hurriedly asked, obviously just wanting to get it out and be done with it. It was obvious what she was saying - I may be slow but I'm not THAT slow. "Coffee, huh," I said slowly, acting like I was considering it. My acting skills aren't tops but in her current state, Alex was more than gullible. I twitched my mouth as if in consideration, although it was actually me trying not to grin. "Coffee... I dunno, that IS inappropriate," I continued; I didn't really blame her for being nervous. If I rejected her or was offended then I'd be completely within reason to go to Grant and tell him just what'd happened. She'd be demoted pretty quickly. "Well, it'd be a lot less inappropriate if it were dinner instead of coffee," I finished, finally letting my grin show. She paused for a moment, expression confused, before she growled lightly and frowned heavily at me - the blush stuck. "Argh, you jerk! Dinner it is. Too late now, but tomorrow we'll eat somewhere fancy," she said, continuing to look frustrated even though it was obvious she was holding back a smirk. I returned her hidden smirk, before what she said struck me and I looked down at my watch - just after 2:30am. "You're right, it IS too late. I don't know about you but I'm going to go back to the room and catch some Z's," I said, giving a suddenly-tired yawn as I gave Alex a wave and walked out the door behind us. She stuck around for a moment, thinking God-knows-what, before she quickly followed me out the door with a call for me to wait. I slowed to let her catch up, not that I was too far ahead. "So, how do you know Grant, anyway?" she asked as she padded up beside me, arms crossing idly. I looked over and up at her with a smirk, studying her as usual. I think I neglected to mention her height - Alex is about 8' tall, which is tall even to your average fur. Me, being the short 5'5 that I am... Well, she's almost double my height, now isn't she? "Oh, when I first enrolled I couldn't stop laughing at his hardcore, stereotypical military shell. Unfortunately for me Grant needed someone to make an example out of, and since I was so conveniently laughing he pulled me out in front of everyone." "Oh God, let me guess, the kick in the jewels act? He's been pulling that on newbies for years, the unoriginal bum," Alex said with a giggle, showing her cutesy side. I returned her laugh, before a question I'd had for a long time sparked me. "Hey, Alex... Why does Grant hang around the RGMA, anyway? I mean, sure, it's a prestigious school, but it's only a military school. He's one of the damn Generals of the Army. Shouldn't he be hanging around the Octagon or something?" "Pfft, I thought you would have figured that out after the big meeting you barged in on. That silver building on the campus is actually the military's very own secret clubhouse. It's where they hold absolute emergency meetings. The entire building's made of Energy Mercury so it's practically indestructible. The Octagon became nothing more than show as soon as it was assaulted during the Drake War. If I was informed correctly, the horse coated in metal you grabbed a seat next to was the Secretary of Defense, heheh." My eyes progressively widened as Alex talked, although it turned to a grin as I realized I'd made a damn strong impression on Earth's military leaders. Alex rolled her eyes yet again, as usual acting like the professional and grown-up of the two of us, as I chuckled as I thought back on my handiwork. "Don't be too proud. Yeah, you made a good impression, but a lot of the higher-ups are very set in their traditions, don't forget. I know there were a few people none too pleased with your outburst. I'm sure they'd be even LESS impressed if they knew you thought they were just the RGMA's Captains and that you'd, willingly, told a group of mid-rank Captains about the LiM Project," she said, reaching over to poke my shoulder with a talon. I stumbled a bit, and crossed my arms with a hmph - that'd never even occurred to me. "Well, either way, fair enough," I said as we'd finally gotten to the hotel, opening the door for myself before holding it open for her. She giggled and gave me a mini-curtsy as she walked in, and I shut the door after her, following her to the elevator. 20th floor, and the elevators here were those 'slow and leisurely' kinds, so I got comfortable against the side rail as the muzak of the elevator threatened to burn my ears. Glancing to the side at her, I saw Alex was staring at me. I raised a brow at her, frowning for a moment, before I cracked a smile. She was attractive, very attractive, and I admit I'd developed a penchant for the way, when a lizard looks at you with their muzzle down a bit, it was difficult to see their mouth. Drew almost all attention to their eyes, and served to give them puppy dog eyes that really, really gave dogs themselves a run for their money. "What?" I finally asked, voice cracking a bit as I tried not to laugh. She was giving me those puppy dog eyes now, for no reason. She didn't reply. "What?!" I asked again, still laughing although getting a little more impatient now. "Is there something on my face? Is my hair messed? What is it?!" I asked again, biting my lip between sentences to quell the laughs. I stared back for a moment longer before I realized something - she was really happy. It took my brain a moment to process that she was in the kind of stupor a teen would be in after their crush just accepted their invitation to their first date, although I never considered the possibility that this may actually have been the case. "Bah," I grumbled, still lightly laughing, and turned away from her, crossing my arms. I jumped a bit, however, when I felt something long, hot and wet slurp up my cheek - the unmistakable feel of a tongue, even if a lizard one - and turned to her with a blush. She was still giving me those puppy dog eyes, before she imitated me a moment before and crossed her arms, turning away as a few puffs of smoke poured from her nostrils. At first I thought she was playing, before I realized she really was genuinely just a bit giddy and needed to do SOMETHING to come to terms with me upping the ante on our date. I simply laughed and shook my head, smirking now as I looked to the doors. "Y'know, you can be really childish, sometimes," I said with a sly sideways glance to her. She simply blew a puff of light smoke and went quiet again. I laughed at her as the doors dinged lightly and I walked out, closely followed by Alex. We were wordless as we walked down the hall, but it wasn't an uncomfortable silence. I had a habit of quieting up, and I was glad Alex was the kind of girl I could do that with without her getting antsy. I casually placed my hand on the lock of the room, unlocking it the fancy way, and opened the door for her. She giggled, again, as she walked in. 'Look at her, she's giddy as hell,' I thought as I smirked to myself, walking in after her. When I closed the door and turned around, however, I immediately slammed back against the door, eyes wide. Alex had either removed or just plain de-materialized her top, AND her bra, and was staring me down with those puppy dog eyes, again. Not to mention the giant mounds of scales on her chest. I gulped heavily and just laid back against the door, ears flicking to press against my head. She'd, to put it bluntly, caught me 100% off guard. She continued to give me the puppy dog eyes, something I'd later figure out was her own version of a seductive smile, before she straightened up and frowned at me sadly, obviously concerned. "Okhami..? Did I do something wrong..?" She asked, voice almost breaking. I quickly composed myself, realizing she was probably worse off out of the two of us, and gradually straightened up before raising a brow at her. "N-no, not at all, but... Um... You don't think you might be moving a bit fast, do you?" I asked, laughing nervously. I'd learnt from my last mistake with Coda, I didn't want to rush this one. "Well, I just... Assumed, it's what you wanted to do... I mean... This is what the female usually does when it's established that two furs like each other, right..?" She asked, practically overflowing with uncertainty. She was speaking like it was out of a textbo-... My train of thought halted. "Wait... Just, what do you know about relationships..?" I asked, blinking a few times. She looked down and hugged herself, covering her chest as her eyes saddened. "Well... Dad never really went over anything with me, he never was too good of a father like that... He didn't know how, he's only ever been a Captain as far as teaching goes, so that's how he taught me... I had to learn about mating from educational books, although they were kind of out of date, and... I don't know... I'm sorry..," she said. It FINALLY hit me that this was her first date, that I was probably one of the first furs she'd ever admitted any kind of feelings for, and quickly walked up to her, placing a paw on her upper back and formed a plain shirt over her.* "I'm sorry, it's my fault. I didn't know you had no idea about it all... Uh... Well, basically, usually the couple kind of dates for a while before anything sexual happens. I mean, there's flings, which usually happen on the first date, but they don't really count as relationships, and I don't want you to be a fling," I said, smiling at her at the end as my ears perked back up. She continued to blush before she smiled down at me. "So uh... I was moving a bit too quick, eh? Heheh..," she joked, laughing nervously, obviously trying hard to be casual. I laughed back genuinely, smiling widely as I leant to embrace her lightly, resting the side of my muzzle against her upper arm since the alternative was to rest somewhere around the line between her stomach and her cleavage. She returned the embrace, still smiling embarrassedly. "It's fine, no harm no foul," I said softly. My mind was still catching up with it, placing all the pieces in - her shyness in asking me out, her giddiness in the elevator, how close she was moving from the elevator to my room... The whole time she'd been mentally bracing herself to mate. "Now c'mon, go to bed before you do anything else silly," I said with a playful wink. She nodded, wiping her eyes a bit with a more casual smile, and quickly walked - almost ran - to her own room, and closed the door swiftly. I shook my head for a moment after her, before I practically collapsed onto my bed. 'Crazy girl,' I thought to myself as I looked up to the ceiling. I squinted as I pretty much just noticed the light, and gave a lazy clap to turn it off. 'Only one day here, and I've already managed to stop a terrorist, find out some vital - if confusing - information on humans, and turn down sex with the most voluptuous creature I've ever seen.' I shook my head and rolled over, smirking into the darkness. "If this whole holiday is going to be like this it's going to be even more tiring than my training," I grumbled to myself playfully, before my mind immediately returned to Alex. 'She's so shy around me when it comes down to it... The Captain act is probably just that, an act. She does a good job of keeping it up if she's as insecure as she showed me today, I would have called her a hardass not 3 hours ago. But now... Well, now I feel like I'M the mature and experienced one. Confusing lass... But hey, that's what makes things fun,' I thought through with a chuckle, before I finally closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep. Just in time to -not- hear the soft panting and, eventually, moans, coming from next door. *The LiM Project gives many interesting abilities. One of these is to alter ANY property of ANY metal. This includes its density and, overall, mass. LiM participants usually wear their own custom kind of metal that's as flexible as cotton, and as light and strong as carbon fiber. They're also known to carry around extra metal under or within their skin for quick access, in case their own doesn't quite cut it or if they need to part with some materials. Alternatively, by carrying around metal that isn't their own, they can actually throw a bit of metal just after expanding it past its weight as an effective grenade, as one of the characters will later demonstrate. I like my stories to be as technically correct as possible, so just in case I'm called out on this one, there's my reasoning. :3
