#1 of Cityverse

This is an in-universe, basic introduction to my Cityverse continuity. I'll be uploading more documents in time, going into a bit more backstory. But basically, The City is its own reality, a separate universe from everything else.

WELCOME NEW CITIZEN!

Congratulations and welcome to your new home!

Welcome to The City, new citizen! This is an automated message from the City Government, here to help you get started on your new life here!

Note: This message has been automatically translated to your native language

Now, you may have significant memory gaps, as well as confusion. This is all perfectly normal! Most new citizens experience this, and is no cause for distraught. The medical technician, who gave you the datapad you're reading this on, is here to help and watch over you. The fine medical staff of this City Immigration and Welcome center are keeping a close eye on you, and will make sure you are comfortable. In time your discomfort will pass, and you're sure to settle into your new life here in The City.

Now, let's go over some of the basics. How you got here, Government, and the various species you may encounter here.

I

How you got here

This is a tricky bit. Most citizens here are what's locally known as "Wash Ups". Like a piece of driftwood washed up on the shore of a beach, you likely just suddenly wound up here. You simply "washed ashore" into The City, and brought to this center. No one is sure why people show up here, or why they have little to no memory of their past life, outside of their identity. No memory of family or loved ones, nor if they even had those. But this is not something to worry about. The City Government is here for you in this hard time, and will help you get settled into your new life. You'll soon make new friends and new loved ones, and discover new things you've never even imagined!

Part of this immigration process is the installation of a Citizen Identification Biochip. This tiny chip is perfectly safe and harmless, and will help ID you as a registered citizen. It will allow you to shop, go out to eat, and do whatever you want in The City. This Biochip also automatically translates audio and visual information to a form you can understand. This means you'll hear all languages as your native tongue, as well as see other citizens use proper mouth movements and body language based on your personal language and culture. This is to insure there are a minimal of cultural taboo breakings, and to help keep citizens safe, happy, and comfortable. You'll also see all signs translated into your native tongue, for ease of understanding.

The City and City Government

We'll try to keep this section brief, as you'll learn more about our grand government as time goes on.

2.A - The Mayor and City Council

Our current mayor is Mayor Ezekiel, a Draconian of 421 years of age (Please Note:, this has been automatically converted to a timeframe you will understand, and does not represent what the subject considers to be their age. Note: you will not receive this alert again, unless you specifically request it). He has been mayor for the past 27 years, being re-elected 5 times (the standard term length is 5 years). There is no current term limit for mayors, but no Mayor has chosen to remain in office past 10 terms. Most past mayors have been Draconian.

The City Council currently has 34 members, each representing a single species, or a group of races and/or cultures. However, not all races and cultures are represented, due to lack of interest or too few numbers. These councillors are elected every 5 years, through an elaborate and complicated election process. If you wish to know more, head to your local Library/Information Center to learn more!

2.B - CIPS- City Intelligence and Protection Service

The CIPS is the main defensive, protective, and intelligence gathering force for The City. The CIPS is headed by Nicholi Chernyshevsky, who rose through the ranks of the Intelligence branch.

The CIPS is made of 2 primary branches, Intelligence and Protection. Intelligence deal with any potential non-standard (for instance terrorism threats, or any new citizens that show worrying and threatening behavior), or even any possible external threats from other Worlds/Realities.

Protection has 2 sub-branches. District Security and the City Protective Service.

District Security is the hyper-local security force. They enforce local and district laws, investigate crimes (that don't affect beyond the local district), and assist in local emergencies. The DS is made of policing units, medical/psychological specialists, and emergency management drones (these non-sentient drones can fight fires, deal with rubble, help find victims, or whatever else is needed).

The City Protective Service is the City's military organization, with its own forces for different aspects (sea, land, air, special forces, etc). The most elite of these forces are The Paladins. They're the most elite force of the City, dealing with threats no other City Government force could deal with. The service was formerly led by General Korin, a Draconian of great esteem to many, however they're now in the process of assigning a new General to oversee and lead them after the death of the General..

2.C - Places of Interest

The City is vast, and therefore has a great deal to offer in terms of food, entertainment, nightlife, and anything else one may seek. There are restaurants for the cuisine of various races and cultures. Several theaters for movies and plays from all sorts of cultures, appealing to various cultures. We have various clubs, bars, and other amenities all over the city. The biggest nightlife area is in the Capitol District, not far from the Capitol Building and the Capitol District Waterfront.

Some notable locations that may interest you:

Capitol Building - The Heart of The City, where the Mayor and City Council work, as well as the Mayoral residence.

Duke's Bar & Grill - Former Mayor Duke's bar, run with the help of Jermiah. Located across the Waterfront from the Capitol Building. Provides a good night sight of the Capitol.

Razor Of Love - The most popular nightclub in the Capitol District. Packed full most nights, though special VIPs can always get in.

Races and Species

There are countless races and species living in The City. It would be near impossible to list all of them here, so we will list a few of the most populous races living here, as well as some notable individuals.

Note: Many names may sound strangely similar to names in your culture. This is due to the Biochip translating their names to the closest equivalent in your language. As well, they will hear you call them by their proper name (again due to the Biochip translation function).

Draconians:

While not the most prolific race, they are among the most respected and oldest races here. Most significant city posts and positions, including the Mayorship, have been held by Draconians for most of the known history of The City. Their race can seemingly be traced back even to the beginnings of The City.

But don't let all this deceive you, as they are as diverse a race as any other. One of our most notable citizens (and former Mayor), John "Duke" Logan, now owns and runs a small bar, and gives off a congenial and welcoming presence. In contrast, Mayor Ezekial is much more serious, focusing on his work and the needs of The City first. He's been described as an extremely serious man, focused on his duty as Mayor.

So don't be nervous if you encounter a Draconian (if you haven't already), as they're just like anyone else!

Chimerians:

The second most significant race here in The City, and seemingly been here almost as long at the Draconians. They're a vibrant and proud people, eager to help a friend or scorn an enemy. They've often been described as not being exactly subtle, either.

Chimerians are unique as they're truly a race of people, made up of several different and unique species and subspecies. They don't go much into their genetic and pre-City cultural history, if any of them even know it.They have many stories for their origins, and none have been proven (nor disproven). Many humans have said they appear to be like animals of their worlds, but bipedal and sentient. "Anthropomorphic" in one of their more populous tongues.

One of the most well known Chimerians is Nicholi "Nick" Chernyshevsky, head of the City Intelligence and Protection Service (CIPS). He is the first Chimerian to hold this position, an honor he takes close to heart.

Some other notable Chimerians are:

Joseph and Dyers, the owners of the Razor Of Love, which is one of the most popular clubs in The City. Their club is situated in the heart of the Capitol District, and is often packed. Better get there early, if you want to get in! (Note: attached to this document is a pass to get in free for one night, courtesy of the owners.).

Jeremiah, co-owner and cook of Duke's Bar and Grill. Formerly the Lieutenant Mayor under Duke's administration, they decided to leave politics and open a place where people could come to escape their woes. Jer's cooking is famous in the Capitol district, as he's learned to cook many various styles of foods from various cultures, all while adding his own flair.

Chimerians can come across very boisterous and emotional, and often wind up being one's best friend or worst enemy!

Synthetic and Cybernetic races:

The City is full of non-organic citizens, all deserving and having full rights as any other law-abiding citizen. They are in all forms, shapes, and sizes. Some identity as Synths, some as robotic or cybernetic, and many as other various terms. Some have physical bodies, and some have no physical form at all! All are as equal as any other citizen. Do note, for reasons unknown even synthetic and cybernetic beings have amnesia when they first arrive here.

Some notable individuals include:

Vec, a professor of medicine and head of universal species medicine at the Capital District University. They have maintained the position for over 50 years, ever increasing their medical knowledge as new races and species join our great City. Be the patient organic, synthetic, cybernetic, or any other form of life, Vec treats them all the same.

Nomad, bouncer and head of security at Duke's Bar, and formerly held the position at the Razor Of Love. His rough and menacing appearance helps with this, despite him having a generally gentle nature. However, he's not a pushover, and has known to get quite rough with those who make a pain of themselves.

Aves, a brilliant scientist and inventor, who's helped create many of the technologies used in The City. The Biochip is of their design, a breakthrough that works far superior to previous forms of instant or near instant translation.

Other Races:

There are so many other races you'll encounter in The City. For some, there are many members of them living here as citizens. Others, just a few. If you have questions or curiosities about any race, culture, or belief system, simply visit your local Information Center, or look up a brief summary via your Personal Digital Assistant.
