Spyros abilities
#1 of Spyro Stories
CW: mild violence
A while back I wrote a couple stories revolving around Spyro and Cynder, specifically their elements and what it would feel like getting hit by the breath elements and abilities they have. Here's Spyros abilities
The Hero Grublin. Tough. Strong. A leader of the weak. The first in the fray when Malefor sounded the march to war. He had led his troop of lesser grublins as they passed through the wall of fire and toward the dragon city. The defenses of the city were pitiful. A single cannon manned by a lowly mole soldier; a few dragons that flew around the army, but couldn't even make a dent in the sheer numbers they had. Even the large wall that surrounded the city had a major flaw. The main gate could be locked by magic, but if it was hit hard enough, the magic would break and the door had to be held shut for a period of time if they wanted the magic seal to take effect again.
But with the battering ram the Dark Master has graciously supplied them, that wall wouldn't stand a chance. However, even though the cannon atop the wall was the only one, it would still prove problematic if they were able to destroy the battering ram before it reached the wall. It needed to be destroyed. So the Hero Grublin led his troop toward the siege towers and volunteered them all to ride it atop the wall and attack the cannon directly.
"You know the drill, maggots!" The Hero Grublin shouted at his troop In their guttural language over the sound of the army below them. They were riding the siege tower as it inched closer to the wall. From there, the troops could disembark and attack the cannon while the tower fired boulders at it as well. Everything about the siege tower was powered by a dark crystal, crafted by Malefor himself, that sucked the magic and energy out of other creatures, such as dragons, if they got too close. If it was destroyed, the siege tower would fall, so himself and a few other chosen members of his troop would stay behind to protect it.
The siege tower shook slightly as it thumped against the wall, indicating they had arrived. The bulk of the grublins quickly stepped off it and headed right for the cannon, while the rest remained to stand guard. The Hero Grublin parked himself right in front of the dark crystal, determined to protect it with his life.
It wasn't long before he saw two dragons hurrying over to them to take care of the siege tower, and as they got closer, he recognized who they were. Spyro and Cynder, the two biggest thorns in the Dark Masters backside. Between the two of them, they had killed many grublin troops, more than he could count. They were strong, but that didn't mean the Hero Grublin was going to back down without a fight. It would be honorable if he died in battle; all he had to do was buy enough time for the cannon to be destroyed.
The two dragons rounded the corner toward the tower, and while Cynder went to work fighting his troop members, Spyro made a beeline straight for the dark crystal. He was probably hoping to destroy it quickly to limit the amount of damage the cannon took, but the Hero Grublin wasn't going to make it easy for him. Brandishing his lance-like arm, he brought his shield up just as...
(Fire)
A wave of fire washed over him. The shield helped protect his face, body, and arms, but his legs still got licked by the fierce flames. Pain shot up his legs and the smell of burnt flesh rose into the air. When the flames stopped, the Hero Grublin lowered his shield. It was black and charred, and probably wouldn't be able to take much more. His legs were pure black on the front, and screamed waves of pain up to his brain.
But he could still stand, and that's what he'd do till his last breath. He thrust his spear forward, hoping to land a crippling blow to the dragons right shoulder. He may not be able to kill the purple dragon of legend, but if he wounded him greatly, than maybe he would be too weak to stand up to what the Dark Master was going to throw at Warfang next. But Spyro just twisted to the side and clamped his powerful jaws around the lance, yanking on it. Because of how weak his legs were, the Hero Grublin couldn't find stable footing and was pulled against his will.
He had just enough time to bring his shield in front of him again as Spyro lowered lowered his horned head and, covering himself in fire, shot forward like a comet, pushing the Hero Grublin right into the sharp facets of the dark crystal. The crystal pierced through his chest, and his shield, already brittle from the intense heat, shattered from the force of the charge.
Defenseless and unable to move, all he could do was watch as Spyro brought his maw right up to the Hero Grublins face and opened it. His eyes widened in horror as a bright light shone deep in the back of the dragons throat, before his entire face was bathed in flames.
(Ice)
Several large shards of ice thudded against it, some piercing, but most shattering. The Hero Grublin smirked. "Nice try, dragon." He said, lowering his shield and thrusting it forward, attempting to gore the dragon with his own ice spikes, but Spyro just stepped backwards out of reach.
The Hero Grublin readied his lance, keeping his shield up and ready to strike if Spyro got too close. Watching carefully, body tense as he prepared himself to react to anything the dragon did, he watched as Spyro rose into the air and started spinning quickly. A cold wind picked up and surrounded the dragon, and the Hero Grublin was just able to bring his shield up to his face when another ice spike shot toward his head. A wave of spikes shot out of the centralized blizzard Spyro was creating, flying in all directions. They continuously bashed against the shield, and the Hero Grublin didn't dare lower it for fear of getting hit.
He didn't see it, but he felt Spyro get closer to him. A freezing wind started buffeting against his left side, and he felt it going completely numb. It was only when the wind and spikes stopped that he finally lowered his shield, his entire body achingly cold. Spyro was back on his feet, crouching low. He lunged at the Hero Grublin, and the Hero Grublin attempted to bring his lance up to pierce the dragons chest, but his arm wasn't responding. He had just enough time to look down and see his left arm completely frozen solid when Spyro swiped and shattered it at the shoulder.
He watched the severed arm clatter against the stones wall before looking back at the purple dragon standing in front of him. All he heard was Spyro cough once, and his frozen cold body barely registered the ice spike go into his neck and sever his spine.
(Electricity)
He heard a loud snap and felt something strike his it. Not long after that, the Hero Grublins entire body seized up as what felt like burning knives raced through it. He tried to cry out in pain, but he was no longer in control of his actions or muscles. What felt like several minutes of pain, but was probably no more than a couple seconds, the pain stopped, and every muscle relaxed at once, causing him to involuntarily drop his shield.
Feeling fuzzy, smelling ozone, and hurting all over, the Hero Grublin shook himself quickly to bring himself back to reality. He stood his ground again, leaving his shield on the ground. He couldn't allow the dragon to hit him with another attack like that. He had to strike while he had the chance. Holding his lance in front of him, he charged forward, hoping to land a lucky hit. Spyro stepped quickly out of the way, and jumped into the air. At the top of his jump, he curled up into a ball and encased himself in an orb of pure electricity. The Hero Grublin found himself unable to move again, and the metallic smell of ozone once more filled the air.
The Hero Grublin felt pain, but not like the last time he was hit. And then he heard the orb pulse, and a wave of electricity shot through his body. What he felt was worse than the last time he was struck. The electricity danced through his body, tearing him apart from the inside out. The orb pulsed again, and again, and each wave set his body afire. His heart stopped as a wave passed through him, and then started up again when the next wave came. Over and over it stopped and started, before it promptly just gave out, unable to keep pumping.
(Earth)
Something with tremendous force rammed into him. It caught him by surprise and he felt his arm almost snap because of it. He saw Spyro open his mouth wide and shoot out another green, earthen bullet. The Hero Grublin jumped to the side to avoid being hit, and the projectile instead struck the dark crystal. A whispery scream rang through the air when it was hit, like the cry of lost souls, and cracks formed on it.
The Hero Grublin growler angrily, mostly at himself for not doing his duty right, and stepped back in front of the crystal. Spyro charged him and grabbed the edge of his shield with his front two paws, hooking his claws into it, and ripping it out of the Hero Grublins hand. His arm was wrenched to the side, and he felt it painfully pop out of its socket. His shield clattered out of reach. Once more, Spyro shot an earth bullet, and it connected with the Hero Grublins chest, pulverizing his ribs. He collapsed in his knees, finding it increasingly difficult to breathe. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Spyro stepping toward him, ready to finish him off.
As a last ditch effort, the Hero Grublin struggled to his feet and spread his arms wide. He released the dark energy inside him and dark purple spearheads, trailing evil magic, shot towards the dragon. Spyro curled up and encased himself in a ball of earth right before they hit him, leaving the Hero Grublin without hope or ideas. Collapsing once more, weak, and unable to breathe at all, the Hero Grublin watched as the ball of earth started to spin. It remained in place as it gained speed before it shot forward, growing spikes as it did, and obliterating the Hero Grublin against the stone wall.
