Park and Rest (Otherwise Untitled)
#250 of Short Stories
A rabbit is woken up.
~ The noise started the rabbit awake somewhat, though he couldn't discern its nature, source, or direction. Before he'd fully awakened, his ears were perked into the chilled air of the car under cover of night. He held in place and his breath for a moment, waiting for any sort of follow up.
~ As the source of the noise declined to provide any elaboration, he resumed breathing in slow puffs of forced calm as he squirmed in place to pull the blanket a bit tighter.
~ With a deliberate caution, he levered himself upright to peer around the surroundings of his car. The park remained empty, and the lot offered only the company of short tufts of grass that had taken root in the cracks and gaps of the parking lot. Having exhausted caution and patience, he simply flopped back down into the seat to stare at the bare metal of the car's roof and wait for sleep to take him.
