#2 of A Tale of Two Lives

Well, here we go, Chapter 2! And it's also two thousand words, if only I can repeat this pattern in 4 chapters... ha!

But, in all seriousness, I hope y'all enjoy this one!

As the sun rises the next morning, Crimsa wakes her mate, as always. Just like usual, he leaves to hunt for their morning meal. But, as Crystalia's eyes flutter open, the world seems to stop, she wanders around, noticing a lack of outside sound and movement; she taps her mother experimentally with her paw. As she does, a jolt of energy flows through her as time resumes. She attempts to look around, trying to figure out what happened to her, but soon realizes that she is not in control of her body; her vision begins to angle downwards as she quickly finds that she is watching through her mother's eyes. A tingle runs down Crystalia's spine as her vision fades from the edges and, just before blackness fills her vision completely, she awakes with a start, finding herself still in her small nest. Soon feeling the comforting sensation of a claw running lightly up her spine and hearing the sound of her mother cooing her usual, "Morning sweetie."

"Morning mom." she replies, purring at the light, tingling sensation as her mother's claw rakes lightly against her rough scales. She shivers slightly as she feels an energizing rush of energy shoot down her spine. Crystalia hops off of her comfortable bed and stretches, yawning as she finishes; her mother then leads her over to the small chest of clothes she had recently bought. Crimsa traces a set of arcane sigils carved into the cave wall and, with an arcane flash, a wall appears in the entrance of the cave, blocking sight from the outside but still allowing the inhabitants to see out. Opening the chest, Crimsa pulls out a dress and shirt, and hands them to Crystalia, who puts them on quickly.

The two chat mentally for somewhere around an hour before Relid returns, tracing the arcane sigil on the outside wall just as Crimsa had done when she closed it; the wall vanishing with another arcane flash as he drops three freshly killed deer on the floor just inside the entrance. Crimsa fetches one for Crystalia and one for herself while Relid dines on his. Crimsa begins eating hers and, before long Crystalia downs hers like she hadn't eaten in weeks.

Crystalia suddenly starts talking immediately after she finishes her deer, "Hey mom, I'm gonna go explore the forest." She hardly waits for an answer, as she had done this several times recently, and her mother had stopped seeming worried in her responses after the second time, so she knew the answer would almost certainly be an affirmative.

"Okay, just be back before dark," Crimsa replies, trying her best to sound as if she wasn't worried, but it was hard to fool her mate, who looked at her questioningly, drawing her attention. To this, Crimsa simply sighed before looking back towards the entrance to their cave, just catching a glimpse of Crystalia's tail as she took flight and headed towards the forest.

Crystalia nods; wordlessly acknowledging her mother before running to the cave entrance and, to the shock of both her parents, taking flight with ease, flying quickly in a childish attempt to make it to the forest in record time.

. . .

As she wanders around the forest, Crystalia's ears suddenly catch the sound of laughter, drawing her attention from her own thoughts. She stalks towards the sound, finding the source to be none other than two strange dragons. The larger of the two couldn't have been much older than herself, as far as Crystalia could tell by size alone; the dragon's deep, brown scales made him difficult to see fully, as they blended in with the dirt backdrop behind him, but Crystalia could easily smell that this one was a young male, though she still couldn't pinpoint his age. The smaller one, who was now sprinting circles around the other, was much smaller than Crystalia. The smaller dragon's chestnut scales didn't blend in with the surroundings as well, so Crystalia was able to make out her distinctly feminine form, and she guessed they were siblings.

The male seemed to notice Crystalia's gaze upon him, as he quickly whipped his head around to see what was behind him. His amber eyes scan across the bushes, stopping when they come to meet Crystalia's own bright green ones. "Who are you?" His voice was low, aggressive, and a growl permeates it as he speaks, sending a clear message to stay back.

"I wish not to harm you. I heard laughter, and I grew curious." Crystalia speaks quietly, her voice unwavering, despite her inner fear. She knew immediately that this particular set of dragons was not directly dangerous to her, as the male didn't look to be of the fighting type, and the female was far too timid to harm her, but she also knew that siblings would sometimes kill to save each other-- no matter their seeming nature.

"And why should I believe you?" The male's growls grow louder, to the point where Crystalia can almost feel their rumbling deep in her chest, despite the nearly twenty-foot space between them.

"Because I'm as young as you." Crystalia steps out of the bushes in which she was hiding, her head bowed, but her body held up high. "My name is Crystalia."

The young male could do no more than look on in awe as the beautiful young dragoness slinks out from amongst the bushes, her perfectly toned body put on display for his eyes by her lack of clothing, past a tight-fitting flight fabric that was exactly similar to the one he had on himself. Her scales were a beautiful forest green, with grey accents around her joints, and at the tip of her tail; she had not a sign of fat on her body, and her muscles bulged slightly as she twitched from the her discomfort in this situation. He was fully aware that his gawking would do no more than make her feel more uncomfortable, but he couldn't tear his eyes from her beautiful form.

The smaller dragoness noticed her brother's infatuation with this stranger, so she guessed that this was another female, something also betrayed by her name, which she quite liked. "My name is Lasia, that's my brother Nolaltro. I think he really likes you..." Her muzzle turns up to as she looks back and grins at her brother, who's cheeks are now a brilliant shade of red, his embarrassment almost palpable to her.

"Now, that's not a nice thing to imply about your brother," Crystalia says as she approaches Nolaltro slowly, letting him drink in her form as much as he wanted. She walks beside him and maneuvers herself so that they are facing the same direction, placing her left wing over him as she does. "You've nothing to fear from me. I believe you're not as shallow as your sister makes you seem..."

Nolaltro's blush deepens, and he looks as far to his left as his head will turn. Even though he refuses to acknowledge the presence of the strange dragoness who now holds him in her embrace, Nol can't bring himself to tear away from her tender touch, so he eventually breaks. "Crystalia?" He whispers, just barely loud enough for her to hear, and definitely not loud enough for Lasia to hear.

"Yes?" Crystalia's reply comes almost immediately after Nol's question, and she instantly regrets the immediacy of her reply. She had just wanted to help, but now she had made it seem that she wanted him, and she knew that it would be dangerous to stay for too long; she knew this, but she still decided to stay and talk to these two young dragons, to try and make some friends in her lonely life.

"Please, let's talk... I really want to get to know you," Nolaltro looks at the fine, young gal and gives her a weak smile before laying down, making a comfortable bed out of the leaves that cover the forest floor below them and inviting her to do the same by lightly patting the ground with his tail.

"Sure, why not," Crystalia chuckles quietly, finding a place to lay that would put her directly facing him. She made a comfortable leaf bed there and gracefully laid herself upon it, making very little noise until she starts to crush leaves under her weight when her body hits the ground.

The two dragons lay there and chat for hours, finding that they have much in common, and that they are of nearly the same age; they leave that conversation with a newfound appreciation for each other, something that both knew would not fade any time soon.

As she turns to leave, Crystalia realizes, with a pang of dread, that she was lost in an unfamiliar part of the forest, and she couldn't fly through the thick canopy of the trees above her. It even crosses her mind to try following the other two dragons, but when she looks around, she quickly realizes that there was no way she could track them to where they were, let alone follow their tracks from there. Although, she did also see that it may even have been for the best, as following them would not bring her to a more familiar place, and she wasn't confident enough with her ability to fly home for that to be a remote possibility. Crystalia soon begins to cry from a deep feeling of helplessness; laying down on the ground, she feels the cold ground beginning to warm slightly before it iced over with a bright ball of arcane light. Looking around, Crystalia finds the trees, grass, and everything else in a small area to be covered in a thick sheet of ice. As awe fades back into loneliness over the next hour, Crystalia slowly begins to feel nauseous and lays back down on the ice-covered ground; returning to her visualization of home, once again attempting to appear at home by sheer will. This time, she feels her body warming up and the ice below her begins to melt as another arcane flash signals her departure. Crystalia chirps with joy when she opens her eyes and finds herself home.

"Where have you been?" Crimsa demands when she walks into the room and Immediately takes notice of Crystalia. Having been worrying about her hatchling for a very long hour, pacing to and fro around her cave, she was quite flustered and it was getting the better of her.

"I've been trying to get home." Crystalia tells her mother mentally, ignoring her impatience, and not letting it affect her. She was just happy to be home, and she was slightly upset that her mother didn't feel the same way about the situation.

"I've been so worried sweetie, why didn't you just walk home?" Crimsa almost yells at her daughter, being completely ready to lecture her about the dangers of being out alone. She manages to hold back, though, and she grits her teeth while her daughter speaks.

"I couldn't, I got lost and couldn't fly through the thick tree cover." Crystalia replies, her voice weak as she takes notice of her Mother's rage, and she starts cowering slightly, shrinking away from her mother's anger

"Why didn't you teleport home sooner?" Crimsa deliberately softens her voice. She had been completely unaware of how much of her rage her daughter had seen, and she was embarrassed that she had caused her child to fear her.

"I tried, I accidentally froze part of the forest before I was able to get home." Crystalia says weakly, her body still shaking, despite the obvious calm that had washed over her mother's rage. She didn't know how long that would last, and she wasn't sure whether her mother was actually calm, or just pretending to be, which unnerved her greatly.

"I guess that is something you couldn't control..." Crimsa sighs. She was now just thankful that her hatchling was home, and she knew now that there was no point in being angry with her; she had not gotten home late of her own choice so there was no point in punishing her. Instead, Crimsa walks over to her daughter and plants a soft kiss on her forehead before she lays down next to her.

Crystalia understands immediately what her mother wanted, so she lays down with her and they curl up next to each other and quickly fall deeply asleep, cuddled together, as mother and daughter.
