This is my take for one of the writing prompts for the Writing Corner. This time the prompt was "He died for the second time that day" and I decided to take inspiration on Re Zero Kara Hajimeru Issekai Seikatsu. Commets and critics are welcome and needed.

A flash of silver cut through the air, a high pitched whistle following the weapon as it missed me by a hair’s breadth. I jumped to the side, barely avoiding the backswing of the axe. A deep growl came from the demon, her eyes glowing with an omnious purple that was copied by her horns. With a roar that shook me to the bone, she swung her axe once more, the metallic edge aiming for my neck. I brought my mace up in an arc, forcing the axe to pass over my head and creating a break in the demon’s defenses. I lunged forward, striking her abdomen with all the strength I had left. A deep blue flash filled my visions; a loud rumble, like that of a thunder, muffled any other sound and, before I knew it, I was flying through the air. Weightless and numb. The moment I hit the ground, the air left my lungs and a field of white invaded my sight. My body kept rolling across the ground, the sharp pricks of rocks piercing through my armor and into my skin until all the momentum was transformed into bleeding wounds. I struggled to breathe, dry coughs rocked my body, the metallic taste of earth and blood mixing in my mouth.

It felt like hours had passed before the air soothed the burning in my lungs, color seeping back into my vision a few seconds later. My ears were still ringing from the sound, an annoying whistle muffling all sounds while my spikes of pains reminded me I was still alive. Gritting my teeth, I forced my arms to move despite the heaviness that was setting into them; the rough earth biting into my skin as my hands slid across it to find better purchase. A grunt left me as I struggled to my feet; my legs were trembling the whole time but still they held me up. Defiant, I glared at the demon at the other end of the clearing. Her lips twisted in a prideful smirk, her pale skin mocking me with its lack of any marks and bruises. I whispered a curse, knowing my chances of victory were slipping out of my grasp with every breath I took. Even so, my mind was set and gathering all my resolve, I raised my weapon in front of me, or what was left of it at least. The end of the mace was a mess, with more than half of the spiked sphere missing while the rest was filled with cracks. A deep weight settled in my gut, acid burning the end of my throat in warning.

A malicious laugh crossed the field, the demon advancing with measured steps towards me, purple orbs daring me to challenge her once more. Shame coursed through me as only silence met her challenge, a sneer soon following her laugh. It was taking all I had to remain on my feet, fighting against the nausea the spinning world was giving me. My muscles burned with exhaustion and protested against any further abuse with sudden contractions. Still, I prepared for my last attacks, one hand gripping my weapon tightly while the other prepared to support my arm after the hit. Ever so slowly I raised the remains of my weapon over my head while my feet moved into the stance I had adopted so many times before. My eyes focused on the pale figure of the demon, her figure now only a couple of steps away from me. The glint of her axe beckoned my eyes as the metal was lifted high into the air, death clinging to its surface.

In a blur, the demon jumped forward, lines of purple tracing lines of the air. It all blended together. The smell of brimstone punching into my nose with a vengeance. The piercing pain as my muscles protested against the sudden movement. The clang of metal on metal that marked my fate. My mace flew out of my hand, the metal device soon lost in the distance. A deep growl filled my ears, moments before a powerful hit threw me off my feet. The moment my back made contact with the ground, I knew I had lost. The creeping cold that had set on my limbs only made that more apparent, dousing the last flames of fighting spirit I had in me. I was only a panting mess, waiting for the end. A blurry pale figure approached me, her eyes piercing into my very being, like twin tigers preparing to pounce. Quick as a snake, her thick tail wrapped around my neck, the rough scaly skin shredding my skin. Her powerful limb lifted me up with ease, bringing me face to face with her. A sickening sweet smell hitting me with every breath she took. I could feel the rumble of her voice through my body, but my mind could no longer make up the words. I remained silent, clinging to the last act of defiance I could still do.

Her eyes seemed to burn brighter for a second, a hint of scarlet red framing her orbs. A roar left her throat, powerful and demanding, a celebration of victory. Then, her tail clenched tightly around my throat, constricting until a crack announced her victory and my vision was painted white. I lost all my senses then as I submerged into a sea of white. There was no time where I ended up, no space either. Just an unsettling loneliness and despair as I drifted in the eternal void.

Then I felt an insistent tug on my very being. Calling me, beckoning me. It pulled me towards the warmth. It pulled and pulled, bringing me closer to a dense warmth. Suddenly, a rush of information filled me. Air cooled the burning in my lungs, electricity ran through my body, waking up the slumbering muscles. It took me a few minutes to gather myself and evening my breath. Soft light shined over the room, showing me the dark slab of stone where I lay in. I took in the hundred of bodies laying around me, all identical, all lifeless but me. With a groan a door opened in the distance, the number 2 glowing with yellow light upon it.
