The Traveling Chronicles of Twix: Ch1. Island of Furs :Not finished
Story and Setting
It is the late 1990's Most of the world has been charted...Most of the world has been charted. But not all, and it's in one of these dark spots where this story takes place.
The departure date is unclear, but a ship, known as the Hamlet left a port in Maine some time a few months ago. It's course was charted to make a stop in England, then go to some southern countries, before circling back to Maine. This didn't occur. Given the equipment of the time, it was strange to lose a ship, but one of this magnitude, with that many people, it was a tragedy.
No one had contact with the ship as it drifted, powerless into every increasing food until they hit a clear spot, hitting Jagged rocks and careening onto a beach. The island is large, it's tropical...The human passengers, all but the crew at first think they have reached their destination, just lost course though they are soon corrected....

The Other Side
Life on the island is peaceful, there is plenty of food and enough space for everyone. The creatures here have lived in complete solitude since the first beings crawled from the ocean. They have developed a rich culture, but lack many means to make the technology humans have. This has not slowed their progress however. In tune with the forces of nature and the elements, the creatures have crafted a private oasis for themselves, away from prying eyes and human steps.
Combining electricity and mystical manners without any scientific explanation, the city of these creatures is much different, crafted stone and wood buildings, underground labyrinths streachign the entire island, a currency system and government, a self contained society build around the unification and understanding of the powers that be.
All was fine, until the Foreigners showed themselves in they large metal craft.

The Fog
The fog surrounding the island has many purposes. The most obvious is keeping the island separated from the land outside of the fog, and keeping what's on the island in. The fog also has a very interesting magic about it. Because the underground and above ground are two very distinct places, very distinct languages emerged, to the point that the two could not understand each other. So the Keepers of the Fog devised a solution, any dialect that is spoken would be instantly translated to a dialect that the receiving party could understand.
Under and Above ground
Above Ground: Uplanders are governed over by the Council of the Elders. The Arts they practice, if they practice them are generally nature oriented. Some Uplanders can have a bit of a superiority complex. They tend to appreciate the balance they have with their subterranean counterparts a little more though. A more male dominated society then underground, though, and as such females are sometimes kept out of the political loop.
Under ground: Underwolders are none to be slightly more driven by instinct. They mine and produce much of the island resources. The network of tunnels and caverns is said to extend all the way to the water. They are a matriarchal society, governed by a queen. A single elder and ambassador is crowned to deal with the above grounders. The arts they practice, if they practice them are usually elemental, or things to help traverse the vast caverns underground.
