Fallen - Chapter 12 - A Light In The Darkness
Imported from SF2 with no description.
“Anita. Anita!"
A youthful looking man of about twenty-four hurried down the hall while trying to get Anita Bell's attention before she disappeared into the women's toilets.
“What is it, Garret?" Anita responded, stopping with her hand resting on the door handle.
“Summerton declined the offer; they're pushing to go to court," Garret explained, a little winded.
Anita stepped away from the door and towards the man almost two decades her junior. He was smartly dressed and spoke with confidence, but his face betrayed his youth and although he was intelligent, he still lacked experience. As Anita approached, Garret straightened up and looked her directly in the eye, a sign of his respect towards both her position and reputation.
“Take Shannon and talk to Marcus. If they're pushing for court, they must have something more. Find out what. This can't go to court." Anita spoke with a precise, cold tone. There was a reason most other lawyers feared going up against her; she was a cunning and ruthless woman, known for using bully tactics and underhanded plays to get her way. Anita Bell was a freight train in the legal world, and anyone that stood in her way usually got ploughed. Cases against her clients rarely saw the light of court because they were crushed before they could get there, or buried in years worth of paperwork. What made her particularly troublesome was the fact that she knew how to cover herself. If something not entirely within the legal limits needed to be done, she often had a way, or found a way, of doing it; and if someone tried pinning it on her, they ended up chasing their own tails within a month.
Inside the women's toilets, Anita stopped to take a deep breath. She closed her eyes and let the world fall away from her, a moment's peace in an otherwise often chaotic world of frequent back and forth between the top lawyers in the city. Anita was a force to be reckoned with, for sure, but things didn't always go according to plan. More often than not she came out on top, but sometimes she needed to think fast and even take a hit.
After indulging in her moment of peace and serenity, Anita proceeded to do what a person usually goes to the toilet to do. When she was done, she washed, straightened herself up in the mirror, and then went to leave. But there was just one problem, the entire door was blocked by metal, from ceiling to floor and across the full width of the door frame.
“What the..." Anita stared at the sight in disbelief, unsure of what to make of it. But her attention was soon directed elsewhere and the door forgotten completely.
“Anita Bell," a stern, almost primal male voice spoke.
Quickly turning on her heel, Anita came face to chest with the city's defender. She stepped back and looked up, staring into Julius' azure eyes. Internally, the woman couldn't help but feel a little intimidated, but she forced herself to keep her calm composure.
“What do you want?" Anita demanded.
“Carrick. Who is he?" Julius began. He glared at Anita with fierce eyes as he stood over her, his voice flat and his words to the point.
“I don't know," Anita replied, her tone matching his.
Julius moved on to his next question, “What's his connection to Lechester?"
“None, as far as I know," the woman replied, her tone this time sounding a little haughty.
Julius stepped closer, making Anita lean back.
“You can't intimate me," Anita stated, attempting to call the tiger's bluff. “I know how you work. You're all tough and macho when the thugs have weapons but you're not the type to harm someone who is defenceless."
Julius stared at Anita for a moment more before withdrawing. He stepped back from her, as if admitting defeat. This made Anita feel like she had won. Her confidence returned and she composed herself once more.
Then Julius' expression changed and he looked at her with eyes that cut like glass cutters; there was a deviousness in them, something cunning and almost cruel. As he calmly stepped forward, Anita felt fear creep back into her. She withdrew, a menacing presence seeming to grow exponentially around her, filling the entire room.
“Tell me," Julius spoke, his voice soft but clear, “have you ever been denied an orgasm?"
Confusion mixed with fear at hearing this inquiry. Anita made a living at reading people, reading their actions and predicting their thoughts. But Julius she could not read; she had no clue what was on his mind, what he was thinking.
“Do you know what pleasure is?" Julius asked Anita. As he did, the tiger reached out his hand and extended his claws, using them to tug at the buttons of the woman's blouse to expose her breasts neatly and snugly set in a black lace push-up bra.
Anita swallowed, her heart beginning to race. Was he going to... No. He wouldn't. It wasn't his style. Surely...
“In response to stimulation, the body generates electrical impulses which the brain interprets as pleasure," Julius continued, his claws slowly plucking at button after button.
“Eventually, the amount of impulses firing through the brain becomes so high that the brain overloads, creating the euphoric sensation known as an orgasm and resulting in the release of various chemicals that act like a narcotic."
As Julius spoke and unbuttoned Anita's blouse, the woman backed back until she was up against the metal barrier covering the door, her C-cup breasts rising and falling as she breathed quickly, her heart and mind racing.
“That release, that eruption of pleasure is the driving force of nature that encourages a species to seek out mates and breed. After all, if it wasn't the single most enjoyable experience in a creature's life, it would have no reason to do it and the species would die out.
“But have you ever considered the effects of denying that release?"
Suddenly, in the blink of an eye, Julius' large palm and fingers were against Anita's neck, wrapping around her throat like the neck of a turtle-neck jumper. His grip was firm, holding her in place with ease, but he applied no pressure so she could breath easily. Anita flinched at his sudden action and attempted to grab at his fingers and arm, but she human strength was nothing compared to his strength of an Arkon.
“Do you know, some people deliberately deny themselves release," Julius continued, his tone beginning to turn menacing ever so subtly. “It's called edging. It takes a great deal of self control for a person to work themselves up to the point of orgasm and then stop. They say they can feel their muscles aching, like a tidal force receding back into their body as they deny themselves that final leap into the ocean of euphoria."
As Julius spoke, Anita found herself growing aroused. She didn't understand how or why, but her body was beginning to grow hot and she squirmed in his grip, her thighs rubbing together as if beginning for something to be pressed between them.
“But there is only so much one can handle before the want, the need is too much to bare and they can't stop themselves any more. Nature cannot be denied; it is instinct at the most base level. Even those who do not indulge eventually grow frustrated, their bodies longing to experience the natural force it was designed to generate and the mind cannot focus on anything else. It is a drug we are designed around, addicted from and long before conception."
Anita's fear had washed away completely by now, her body becoming enveloped in the tingling pleasure that was inexplicably coursing through her. She couldn't help but let out a slight moan as she felt wetness between her thigh.
“You cannot deny your own urges indefinitely," Julius stated, his face coming close to Anita's, “But I can control electricity, I can deny you release for as long as I want. How long do you think you can last? How long do you think it will be before this pleasure you are feeling becomes torture, becomes _ agony _."
Anita moaned again, this time louder. There were voices coming from the other side of the door, now, people had wanted to use the toilet but found the door wouldn't open. Hearing voices inside, people began to call out and bang on the door, but Anita was oblivious to them; all her senses were now focused on the sensation her body was being bombarded with by Julius. She could feel the pleasure building and already it was bottling up, like a fizzy drink being vigorously shaken in a bottle without a means to escape. Anita's moans turned to whimpers. The prolonged pleasure was unlike anything she had experienced before and already her head was getting fuzzy. She had stopped fighting Julius, but she couldn't tell when that had happened. All sense of time seemed to slip from her perception as another moan escaped her lips. In a vain attempt to relieve herself, Anita pressed and rubbed her thighs together, but the aching between her legs could not be sated. She tugged at her bra, unbuckling the clasp at the front to expose her breasts and squeeze them, but that only added to the problem, making her writhe and moan some more. Julius just stared at her face, watching her expressions contort and wince as his control over her central nervous system proved more than she could handle.
“P... please.... I-I can't.... I need to..." Anita begged, barely able to get the words out between ragged breathes.
“Who is Carrick?!" Julius demanded, almost shouting the words.
“I don't... I don't know... I swear... I get... I get my... instructions... anonymously..."
“What is Lechester's connection to Carrick?"
“He's a... a pawn... put in... position... over a de.... over a decade..."
“Why so long?" Julius' tone softened a little but his onslaught on Anita's senses persisted.
“Se... secrecy... to... to legitimise... Lechester's career..." Anita moaned loudly, the process clearly taking its toll on her both mentally and physically.
“What else can you tell me about Richard Lechester?" Julius pressed.
“W... Westfield... Lechester's real name..... is Westfield... That's all I know... I swear," Anita pleaded.
Julius growled before releasing the woman from his grasp. Her body slumped on the floor and she let out a wail, every muscle twitching as the ensuing orgasm caused her to pass out completely. A few moments later, the door to the toilet was pushed open and people streamed in to see what was going on. All they found was Anita, barely dressed and unconscious on the floor, her body twitching erratically; the sheet of metal that had been preventing the door from opening stood propped up against the stalls, warped as though pulled directly off the wall. Julius was nowhere to be seen.

“Westfield. Are you sure she said Westfield?"
“Positive. Why? Does that name mean something?"
Harrison tapped his finger on Carry's kitchen table thoughtfully. “A little over twenty years ago, Gunther Westfield was found dead at his estate, the same estate you checked out the other day. Gunther was wealthy and well connected, a highly respected man for a variety of reasons, not all of them good. Although nothing could ever be proven, it was believed that Gunther had strong ties to organised crime."
“What does that have to do with Lechester?" Julius asked.
“I'm getting to that," Harrison assured his friend. “Gunther had a son, and when he was found dead, a search was formed. No body was ever found so it was assumed the boy was hiding. The building and the grounds were thoroughly searched, and missing posters were put up all over the state for months afterward, but he was never found. Eventually it was assumed Gunther's son had been kidnapped and killed elsewhere."
Harrison stood up and walked around the kitchen, his head lowered as the cogs in his mind turned over. Finally, he turned to Julius and continued speaking.
“It's a stretch, but if Lechester is really the missing Westfield boy, it might be possible that he was taken and raised by Carrick, or whomever Carrick took over for. It's one hell of a long play, but if someone wanted to get an ally inside the political circle with no ties back to them, and total loyalty, that would be a sure fire way to do it."
“But what does that mean for us? What use is this information?" Julius pressed.
“It stirs doubt. The idea that the mayor was raised by a head of organised crime, specifically for the purpose of infiltrating a position of power, will make peoples' heads spin. They won't know what to believe. Every word he speaks will be second guessed and in the meantime we can dig deeper into his background. School records, medical records, guardianships, anything. It might not be enough to get him kicked out of office, but it will sorely limit is ability to do anything because people will be watching him much more closely. We might even be able to get that warrant for your arrest revoked and a few good people reinstated at the precinct."

It was almost a month before the headlines began flooding with the conspiracy that was Richard Lechester's career. For the most part, his life was legitimate, but some details, when looked at more closely, didn't add up. He didn't appear to have any living relatives; both his parents were listed as having died in a car accident when he was four. They even had a place in the cemetery complete with bodies and incident reports. But further details about Lechester's parents seemed scarce, such as where they worked or where they came from. Nobody from the area they were supposed to have lived seemed to remember ever meeting them and there were no records of their parents. Even the woman that raised Richard seemed to have popped up out of thin air. She was alive and still a prominent part of the current mayor's life, but when pressed for more intimate details, such as why she had moved to this city or adopted Richard, explanations began to get sketchy. Even her finances didn't entirely match up. Although she had a legitimate job, it seemed that her life with Richard was conveniently just comfortable enough, with minimal financial issues which, for the income she was earning, seemed a little stretched.
When further interviewed about why he chose the career of a politician, and if he'd ever wanted to do other things, even Lechester seemed to stumble on minor details. All in all, the proverbial house looked solid, but upon closer inspection, the foundations seemed dubious at best. It still wasn't enough to have Lechester removed from his position as Mayor of the city, but it made a lot of people look at him differently.
The arrest warrant was not revoked.
