Model Citizen (Part 1)
#1 of Model Citizen
The rabbit raced through the woods, his heart thumping hard in his chest as he panted and glanced behind him, the looming figure was no longer in sight, but he could not stop. "I knew taking a short cut through the woods was a bad idea" He told himself before hopping over a small stream. The rabbit's large ears where getting whipped by the low branches as he ran through the trees, but they still heard his pursuer, cracks, steps and the occasional breath.
The sight of a street light, his heart skipped a beat, he felt safe but kept sprinting. The last trees keeping him from safety where the densest, but he forced his way through. He almost cheered out as he broke into the quiet, still park as he smiled.
A hard blow came from behind, knocking the fragile little rabbit to the ground and nearly rendering him unconscious. He looked down at himself and forced his eyes away from his wounds. His legs no longer worked and he quickly grew light headed "p-please" he tried to beg as the figure drifted closer. "Please" he repeated in his shaky voice.
He tried to scream, but it was too late.

It was a beautiful morning, the sun was shining and the birds where chirping and Alex, a middle aged male wolf, was walking to work. He was making great time and decided to take the long way to work, through the park, but as he grew near to the center of the park, the atmosphere changed, the sky no longer seemed bright and the birds quieted down.
A shape lay motionless on the ground and before he could even see what it was, the smell gave it away. Someone was dead in the middle of the path. Alex gasped and looked around to make sure no one else has seen it yet or will see it before pulling out his phone and calling the police.
Alex paced nervously, keeping his distance from the mangled body as he waited for the police, they asked for him to make sure the individual was dead and to perform C.P.R. Alex simply replied "chest compression won't help much for this guy" and he was right, he didn't want to admit over the phone, but the poor rabbit was practically shredded and looked more like roadkill than a murder victim.
Alex took it upon himself to make sure no one else saw, especially no kids, when he finally saw the police rushing over, he sat on a near by picnic table and took some deep breaths, trying to calm himself as he called his boss before a officer could talk to him.
He gave a brief and vague explanation to his boss, who was very understanding and encouraged him to take the day off. An officer, a large cat, perhaps a mountain lion, approached him "Usually I'd start this with good morning citizen but..."
"Not a very good morning now..." Alex finished for him
"exactly" the officer nodded "anyways, a few questions sir... How did you find him"
Alex took a deep breath and tried to explain clearly "I was on the way to work and saw the body from a short distance, but than i smelled it and knew he was dead..." The officer held out a stick of minty gum and Alex gladly took it "thanks" and started chewing it before continuing "i approached and made sure no one else would see the body before calling"
"you made sure no one would see?" The officer asked.
Alex's heart skipped a beat "y-yes, just looked around to make sure no one would bump into it and stop them if they where about to"
"you'r a good person sir?"
"Alex, my name is Alex Dixon" he took a deep breath "if I can ask... who is it?"
The officer turned to the others and asked "whats his ID?"
A very panicked looking squirrel replied "Kenneth Kirby"
"Kenneth? Ken, I knew him, I worked with him a few years ago" Alex replied.
The officer he was talking to looked a little sad "i knew him too... he was a great guy, real model citizen type of guy"
Alex nodded "and he was when I knew him..."
Alex and the officer talked for a little more before the officer said he can leave now. Alex sighed and walked out of the park, heading back towards home and trying to return his mood to joyful with no success.
It was a long day for Alex, he was stressed and nervous after what happened. He remembered hearing of three other animals found murdered similar to this. Alex was a bit of a pack rat, he went to his pile of news papers and rummaged through the top three and sure enough, three days, now four and three, now four deaths. "When will it end?" he asked himself, growing nervous as if the murder might be right behind him
It was a long day and Alex tried to clear his mind and calm down, but as bed time came around, he round himself scared and restless. He looked down at himself and settled on taking a sleeping pill and forcing sleep upon himself.

The figure moved with ease through the night, checking doors, house 301, locked... House 303, locked... House 305, locked... House 307, locked... House 309, unlocked and it slipped in as if just a breeze in the cool night air.
A young fox yawned and got up to the sound of her alarm "damn Night shift" she thought to herself and almost chuckled before heading towards her kitchen. In her sleepy state, she thought the shape was her mind playing tricks at first, but she blinked and it remained. Thinking quick, she threw her mug at it as hard as she could and rushed up the stairs. She could practically feel the figure breathing down her neck and she kicked, feeling her foot make firm contact with the shapes chest as she reached the top of the stairs.
The shape lunged and nearly pinned her but let her squirm free, its claws ripping her pajamas to shreds and leaving scratches in her skin, making her yelp out she she jumped free and dashed into her room and locked the door. Than turned and started to the quick access safe she kept her hand gun in, but before she made it three feet, the door was in splinters and she was pinned.
A huge clawed hand held her throat tight, stopping her from screaming as she felt the claws sink into her flesh, she held her head and neck as still as possible as to not cause further damage as she fought to free her body, when she suddenly found herself airborne, flying across the room, she could see the figure, it seemed to laugh.
She hit the wall and it winded her. The world spun around her and she tried to crawl her way into the bathroom but found her dressiness too hard to over come and she fell over.
The figure loomed over her, almost looking disappointed, waiting for her to make her move. The fox wanted to curl up and pray she would be spared. She felt a weight fall onto her chest, the figures foot and it was slowly pressing down harder and harder on her chest, pushing the air from her lungs and making her thrash frantically which is when she saw it. The little wire framed stand she kept her home phone on.
She grabbed the leg and with her full strength, smashed it against the shape, which staggered back, giving her a chance to grab the phone and roll into her bedroom and under her bed.
She dialed 911 and impatiently waited...
"Hello, 911, whats your emergency?"
She barely whispered, it was all she could muster having been winded twice "hello, theres someone in my house and they are trying to kill me!"
The operator was clearly surprised "ma'am" the operator said "remain calm and try to hide yourself or leave if you can and tell me where your location"
The fox stated "309 south boulevard and..." she gasped as she watched the shadowy feet of the figure walk into her room, slow and deliberate "hes in my room"
The operator said "police are on the way ma'am, remain on the line if you can.
The fox looked around frantically as the feet came closer to her bed. Her gaze met a button that she lost from her favorite sweater and an idea came to mind. She threw the button against her closet door and the figure turned and approached it.
She slowly shifted to her night stand and reached up, the bracelet on her wrist tapped the quick access safe and it opened. She took hold of the gun and turned her attention towards the figure... It was nowhere to be seen.
The sound of rushing air made her ears perk up before the bed above her was crushed and she screamed.
"Ma'am, what happened!" the operator asked.
"My bed!" she shouted "he crushed my bed and..." she looked at her self, the jagged pieces of wood where holding her in place and where nearly cutting her "and I'm trapped"
The figures head became visible and she pointed her gun at it. She felt a firm grasp around her wrist and a claw held a tendon, she couldn't pull the trigger. She felt her arm being wrenched around and than a loud snap and she yelped out and started crying "MY ARM!" she cried into the phone "HE BROKE MY ARM!"
The sound of police sirens made caught her attention "oh thank god" she said but felt the claw tightening on her tendon, her finger flexing on its own. "No" she said "please please no!"
The police jumped out of their cars and a gunshot blasted through the night air "Shot fired, we might need backup!" the mountain lion called into his radio and all of the officers readied for a firefight. Only a moment later the figure was on the roof, holding the body of the fox, he held her over the edge of the highest point.
"He's gotta be at least 7 and a half feet tall" the officer said into his radio as he readied the spot light. There was a crunch and everyone winced as the foxes body hit the ground "canine, hes some sort of canine, glowing blue eyes... FIRE AT IT!"
The shape jumped, vanishing behind the house and the police followed after it, the mountain lion rushed to the corpse of the fox "b-Briana?" he asked, hoping desperately for a response from his old friend "Bri..." he saw her face and jumped, his fur standing on end and he no longer hoped for a response, but instead hoped than she was gone and not suffering. He felt for a pulse. Nothing. And let out a slight sigh of relief.
In the woods, the figure seemed to go through the dense trees as if they where nothing, quickly out pacing the officers. They tried to track by scent but found none. and where forced to return to the scene.

Alex woke up slowly in the morning. He hated using sleeping pills, it was always such a poor quality of sleep. He heard a firm knock at his frond door and jumped up and opened it up "Hello there?"
It was the mountain lion officer "hello there sir" he held his hat in front of him and Alex's heart skipped a beat.
"oh no, don't tell me... Some one else is dead now" Alex said.
The officer nodded "do you know Briana?" he asked.
Alex frowned "not her, no please tell me it was anyone but her"
The officer nodded "I'm so sorry Alex" he said.
Alex took a deep breath and let it out, reaching up as if he was about to tear his fur out and he started to pace a little "I... I need my coffee... Would you like to come in?"
The officer nodded "of course" and started to follow Alex inside, shutting the door behind him. "Oh, Alex, I haven't told you my name yet, I am officer Mills when I'm on duty and off duty I'm Jamie Mills"
"Nice to meet you Jamie, and as you already know, I'm Alex" he said with a slight chuckle as he nervously turned on the coffee maker.
"you seem nervous Alex, tell me, is there anything illegal in this house?" Jamie checked his watch and hug his hat on the chair he was sitting on "I'm just kidding, but i would like to know how tall you are"
Alex chuckled a little "you seem like a pretty cool guy, anyways, I'm six foot 2, why?"
"well" Jamie started "last night we caught a glimpse of the murderer, but he was at least seven and a half feet tall, canine and with very dark fur, so your off the list"
Alex let out a sigh "yeah, he's quite a bit taller than me, and as you can see, I'm mostly white"
Jamie nodded "exactly, but as it was the end of my shift, I was tasked with checking out the near by neighbors"
Alex nodded "fair enough... Cream, sugar?"
Jamie shook his head "just as it is please"
Alex took two mugs of coffee to the table and sat down, passing one to Jamie "officer... Jamie, do you think I should get a gun?"
Jamie sighed "it might help, but Briana had a gun... The murder used it against her though"
Alex's heart skipped a beat "fuck..."
Jamie straightened his posture a bit "how did you know her Alex?"
"Well, she only lives a few houses down and I..." he cut himself off and forced himself to continue "had a bit of a crush on her"
"she was my little sisters best friend Alex and I got to know her pretty well because of that" Jamie told him.
"Fuck" Alex said again "she was a real nice person"
Jamie nodded "A real model cit..." he cut himself off "Thats the only connection between the victims, they are all such great people"
Alex nodded "I guess I'm safe"
Jamie glanced around, seeing the stack of news papers and the mess in the corner and a few beer bottles "don't worry, I'm no better... But that's the connection I'm seeing, thanks for mentioning how nice she was"
"Hey happy to help" Alex replied and sipped his coffee "if you come by for coffee more maybe I'll be able to help more... Or at the very least, we'll get a new friend out of it"
Jamie chuckled and finished his coffee "anyways, thanks Alex, I'll be sure to drop by some time, but now I should go, hopefully that coffee will be enough to get me home"
Alex laughed a little "it was nice talking, I'll see you around, oh, don't forget your hat!"
Jamie smiled and took his hat "thank you" and left.
Alex looked around a little "yeah, i'm gonna buy a gun... What time does the gun shop open?"
Later that day, Alex found himself at the gun shop, looking at the many options of guns, pistols, revolvers, shotguns, and even a few tactical rifles.
The shop owner joined him "good day sir, admiring our options I see?"
Alex looked at the owner, a canine, perhaps a husky, and was a little shorter than him "uh... Yes?"
The husky chuckled "need help making your choice sir?"
Alex blushed a little "yes please, it's been a while since i owned a gun"
"so, what do you need it for? home defense, hunting, carry, target?"
"uh... Home defense and personal carry I guess?" Alex replied.
"nice" the husky said and guided him to the hand guns "so a pistol or a revolver wound be best for that"
"okay, I've always liked the way that revolvers looked and felt... So now I just need to pick a caliber" Alex thought out loud.
"Our most popular for self defense in the revolver is 9mm and .45 ACP" The husky told him "but I recommend as powerful as a .357 or better"
Alex nodded "I used to own a 357, so that would bring back memories, so I think that'll be my choice"
"Perfect, lets chose a model and than do some paperwork"
After it was said and done, Alex had bought a holster and, a gun, and a few boxes of ammo and a little safe to keep it on his night stand, and was heading straight to the range to test it out.
The husky stepped out back and lit up a cigarette. "Don't you know smoking is a nasty habit?" a soft voice asked and he looked down to a young otter, maybe only 7 years old
"oh, hey babe, how are you?" he asked.
The little otters shape melted and reformed into an adult female otter "babe, you always know it's me, what gives it away?"
"your beauty" he replied.
"aww, babe, your so sweet!" she said and melted her shape again, reforming as a teen "this is your favorite, isn't it?"
He nodded "I like all of your forms, but that one... mmm, show me your swim suit"
She giggles and her clothes melted, reforming as a blue swimsuit with the crotch already wet "like this?"
"babe, meet me in the private room please"
The two excitedly headed off to a hidden room of the gun shop.
