Ch. 12

"Your planning on following us?" I asked Rian as I pulled my backpack over my shoulders and adjusted the straps.

"Only if it's ok with you. I don't want to be in the way," He said as he too adjusted his own backpack around on his back. "I want to hear the rest of the story of how you took down that Saturn guy and rescued that Lucario of yours."

'I wonder if this is how Ash felt, if he didn't want to have a companion on all of his journeys?' I thought as I walked up to nurse Joy and collected my other Pokemon. "So tell me nurse Joy. How are my Pokemon?"

The nurse gave me a pleasant smile and deeply bowed as she steeped out from behind the counter. "Most of your Pokemon are fully healed and ready for the open road. Though I do have a few concerns about your Lucario and Gardevoir. Both of their pregnancies are...interesting, to say the least," She stood back up and looked me strait in the eye. "If I did not know any better. I would say that the two of them are going to give birth to live offspring, rather than an egg each."

This got the attention of Rian as he walked up to stand beside me as I clipped the rest of my Pokemon onto my belt. "Therefore, I would greatly recommend that they stay here at the center so that I can study them further, and aid in the time when the birth occurs." She gave me a pleading smile, full of hope that I'd comply with her wishes. "After all, if they were to give birth here, I would be able to make sure that the birth goes smoothly and with as little pain as possible."

I finally clipped the last Pokeball to my belt and looked up to the nurse. "Thanks, but no thanks nurse Joy. I've dealt with situations like this in the past and I don't think that either of my girls want to be strapped down and studied like lab rat...Rattata's," I told her as I took the last two balls off the tray and clipped them onto my belt as well. "I'm confident that I can take care of them when that time comes. After all, I do have some training as a Pokemon doctor as well."

The nurse looked like somebody had just beaten her to the last sweet roll in the bread basket at dinner, as her face lost it's cheer. She was most likely upset that she wouldn't be the first doctor/nurse to observe a once in a lifetime event that would most likely put her face on the news papers around Sinnoh and probably in the history books. "I still can not stress the importance of their condition though. If I did not know any better, I would say that their very close now to giving birth. Plus, it would be much safer for everyone involved with the pregnancies, if they were to give birth here at a center, rather than on the open road." She said as she reached out and took hold of my shoulder. "If not for the sake of the Lucario and the Gardevoir, then the babies that their carrying."

I looked down at her hand that was now grabbing my shoulder and gently took it off and let it go from my grasp. "Again. Thanks, but no thanks nurse Joy," 'She must be very persistent if she breaks her character like this.' I thought as I gave her a smile. "Like I said. I do have some training as a Pokemon doctor," The nurse was about to say more but I simply just held up my hand to stop her. "Look nurse Joy. I appreciate your concern and all, but I'm already to much in your debt. You've not only taken care of me when I was injured, but my Pokemon as well when I couldn't. I just don't want to put myself in your debt any further."

So without giving the nurse a chance to change my mind, I quickly waved to the nurse over my shoulder as both Rian and I leave through the double doors. "That nurse seems really interested in your two Pokemon." He says as he stops just outside to wait for me to catch up, which I quickly did and the two of us headed for the exit to the town since I was still walking a little stiffly due to the healing burns.

Once we reached it, I debated whether or not to release both Jenavee and Rena as I pulled off their balls from my belt and looked at their shinning surfaces of their Pokeballs. 'Though I do have to admit that I'm a little reluctant to be caught out there with two pregnant Pokemon. Especially when I don't know if I'll be able to set up a proper shelter for the three of us, then deliver the babies,' I thought as I clipped their balls back onto my belt.

"A penny for your thoughts Donovin." Rian said as he turned around and started walking backwards. Only to start heading towards some trees nearby in his awkward/backwards walk.

I honest debated with myself about stopping him, and thought the better of it as I reached out and grabbed him by the arm. "I was just thinking on how funny it would have been to see you back into those trees." I said as I pointed behind him and allowed him to look. "Though I doubt that you'd have been happy to see me..."

"SWEET. THOSE ARE JUST THE BERRIES I NEEDED!" Rian shouted, interrupting me as he quickly pulled out of my arm and quickly started jumping up to grab off several of the berries on the trees. This really reminded me of the days that me and my sister would go spend the week with our grandparents at their farm that had over 5 acres of different fruit trees. She would often ask me to get down the oranges that were higher up, since the sun helped those ones to develop into some of the sweeter ones.

Just as I was about to start laughing at Rian's vain attempts to reach some of the ones on the higher branches, I froze as a shiver ran up my spine. 'I guess I haven't lost all my fighting skills. I can still sense when theirs an opponent nearby.' So as Rian continued to collect the berries that he wanted, I looked around for my opponent. Either this opponent was very skilled at hiding themselves, or they just weren't in the immediate area.

"HAY DONOVIN. A little help over here buddy." Rian said as I turned back to see that he'd picked nearly all the berries from the branches that he could immediately reach.

I didn't want to take my eyes off the area and allow my opponent the ability to attack me with my back turned (as I've had that happen to me enough from a bunch of small kids who were to frustrated at not being able to best me at the sword back home). So while I helped Rian with his berry picking, I would continuously look out of the corner of my eyes. After a few minutes of this, I eventually gave up and focused on my picking, until one berry flew back up on it's branch after I'd picked a berry that was right next to it which was making the branch to heavy.

Freezing right as I was about to hand Rain the berry, I looked through the tree's foliage at a sight that'd been previously blocked to me by the weighed branch. Standing on the edge of the forest at the North end of town, stood a Galactic grunt. I could tell it was one, by the sea green bowl haircut, and the silver and blue uniform. He seemed to be lost in thought as his head was bowed down and looking at something within his hands with his back turned towards my direction. I was instantly brought back to reality as I felt someone pull at something within my grasp.

"Darn it Donovin. Your squeezing that berry to hard. Give it to me before something awkward happens," Rian said as he pulled at the blue berry that was starting to crack along an edge and leak out some kind of blue juice over my hand.

I released the berry and to much of my own amusement, caught Rian off guard as he pulled the same moment I let go. He fell to his backside and the berry went flying. I'd seen enough anime to know where that berry was going to land, so pulled out my sword and made a thrusting motion. Rian let out a yell as he saw me pull out the sword from behind me and threw up his arms to shield his face. "What are you so scared of Rian?" I asked him.

When he opened his eyes he saw that I was holding a long sword, that was just inches away from the top of his head. He slowly looked up the blade from guard to the blades tip and saw that I'd speared an Oran berry just above his head, which would've splattered over his head and covered him in it's juices. As his head was tilted back, a single drop from the berry slowly oozed out of the place where the blades tip had entered the berry, slowly made it's way down the berry to the bottom of it, and dripped off to land just between his eyes.

"Whops, sorry about that," I said as I slowly raised the sword away from his head, only to lift it up so that I could take a bite out of the speared berry. I'd eaten about half of it when Rian slowly started scooting away from me. "Huh? Oh, sorry. Did you want some?" I asked as I slowly lowered the blade so that it was horizontal, and took off the berry and offered it to him. He just looked at me, until I started to shake the berry in his face.

"What the....by the legendaries, how did you do that? Plus, where have you been keeping that sword of yours?" Rian asked, completely ignoring the berry being offered to him.

"Oh well. More for me then," I said as I quickly finished off the berry and buried the rest near the tree from which it had been plucked. "Waist not, want not." Then began brushing off the dirt on my pants. "As for your questions. I've been practicing the art of the sword for many years now and a simple thrust like that is a move that I first developed. As far as where I was keeping my sword, there is a spot on my pack that hides it almost perfectly when I'm not wearing it on my hip," I slowly looked over at him over my shoulder and smiled as I pulled out a piece of cloth from my pocket and wiped down the blade to keep the berry juice from sticking to the blade.

Rian quickly jumped to his feet and quickly came over to stand right in my face. "Aw man, that is so cool. Could you teach me how to fight with a sword?" He asked with big eyes that just begged to be answered in a yes.

To this I couldn't help but laugh. 'How long had it been since a person asked me to teach them how to fight with a blade? Probably years if I didn't include that kid who tried to put a hole in my chest by flinging around that blade at the last Renaissance Fair. "Maybe some day, but not right now," I said as I looked through the tree and could still see the Galactic guy hadn't moved. "Right now, I've got to take care of an infestation that needs to be exterminated."

"What are you talking about Donovin?" But didn't get an answer as I walked around him and headed off to battle the Galactic grunt. I only got a few steps past him when he sighed, raised up his arms like Atlas, and shrugged his shoulders. "Aw what the heck. It is not like I have anything better to do right now. Plus, I would like to see what this, 'infestation' he is talking about," So he turned and followed me.

This almost seemed to easy as I would see person after person pass by this guy without him even looking over his shoulder. 'Is this guy really that stupid, or is...,' I thought but stopped walking towards him only to have somebody bump into me from behind.

"Hay Donovin, why did you stop?" Rian asked as he leaned over to one side and looked around me. I could see his eyes quickly shift from quizzical to anger, "That is Team...," But I didn't allow him to say more as I quickly clamped my hand over his mouth.

"Would you keep your voice down. We don't want him to realize that were onto him," I said as I pulled him over to a set of trees and looked around it. The Galactic grunt was still preoccupied by the item that he had and now I could hear him speaking about the item under his breath. 'He's so engrossed by that item that he has no clue as to what's going on around him. I could probably just walk up behind him and see what's got him so fascinated. But first...
