The daring archaeologist navigated his way through the passageways of the tomb of Mu-ifed Maa-kheru, high priest of Osiris. The tomb had only been uncovered a few weeks before and he was one of the first given entrance. He stopped for a moment to stare at the wall, searching for any signs of his location. The burial chamber was around here somewhere. The tomb was dark; the only source of light the flashlight in his paw.

Mu-ifed Maa-kheru had been very high up in the hierarchy, so he had been mummified, which was what the archaeologist wanted to see. He was a world-renown expert on mummies and had always dreamed of finding one by himself. He came to a large room and his gut told him that this was it: the burial chamber of Mu-ifed Maa-kheru. He shined his light around the room and spied the sarcophagus on the far side of the chamber.

"Perfect." The archaeologist muttered, walking forward. He would get some help in cataloging the artifacts later. For now, the mummy was all he cared about. He walked up, tiptoeing for some unknown reason. After all, everything in this tomb had been dead for thousands of years. He grunted with exertion as he pushed the cover of the sarcophagus back. "Nothing?" The archaeologist yipped in surprise. Where was Mu-ifed Maa-kheru? Suddenly, a heavy paw fell onto his shoulder and a loud moan came from behind him. The archaeologist shrieked and the mummy laughed.

"Did little Andlat wet his diapee?" Andlat glared up at the big wolf standing before him wrapped in toilet paper. He had wet his diaper, but that was none of the wolf's business.

"Jesse!" He whined. "Mummies are supposed to be dead!" Jesse scoffed.

"What fun would that be?" Andlat crossed his arms grumpily.

"You ruined my game!" Jesse sighed.

"Fine. We'll play a different game. Attack of the Mummy's tickle curse!" The wolf began to tickle the little fox relentlessly. Andlat fell back onto his padded rump and tried to fight back, giggling loudly.

Spring

I am in a sunny meadow, holding a single daisy up to my nose, inhaling its intoxicating aroma. It is early June. Spring has not yet given way to summer, but I can feel it coming. I sit there, on that slightly faded old blanket,...
