Dreamhunters are a breed forged by nightmares and the psychic ability to traverse through different states of being specifically through dreams. Those with this ability to move through their dreams can at some point though it is a rare occurrence be met by another dreamhunter. This is so uncommon, only one natural physical being has been able to meet and become a Dreamhunter. Spirit-Howl was the one who accomplished this, along with giving new light to what these beings do.
As mentioned Dreamhunters are created by nightmares and at times can have be mistaken as part of an individual's nightmare. However, they are quite the opposite. From the darkness and fear, this guardian like race travel through dreams and help guide those in them from harm and help eliminate the beasts that could lurk within the dream world. According to Spirit-Howl, the term Dreamhunter is a title among them. They do have individual names but are usually not disclosed until they are confronted. However, as being the first physical being to become one of these guardians, he was able to retain his name during the transformation.
Spirit-Howl did not disclose any further about his newfound people, but as he states, "They are no different than us, just they are hard to find."
