What can I say?

Nisha couldn't find her voice, he was awake! Certain parts more awake then others, clearly his injured state had not hindered him from acting like a male. Nisha just stood there ogling him up and down. As he saw her looks he squirmed slightly, she on the other hand blushed profusely under her fur, knowing full well what a delicate view she had provided him with.

It's strange how only a few seconds can be enough to think a whole lot of thoughts, in Nisha's mind all kinds of thoughts were running rampant, none of which made much sense. Embarrassment, curiosity, and a strange sense of feeling relieved as clearly her remedies had helped him over the worst hurdle.

Attack was her line of defence, she cocked her head and with chin lifted high she said with as calm voice as she could muster

"Looks like you got an eye full! Happy to see your feeling better."

She added as her legs began to move and she walked into the cottage, leaving the door open to air the night out and get some fresh morning air in.

As she passed him by she got a whiff of his scent, and to her utter embarrassment she could feel her body betray her as her tail slightly lifted and a tiny shiver went over her hide. She quickly busied her self at the counter, effectively turning her back to him.

"I guess your hungry"

She mumbled, loud enough for him to hear but was more talking to her self, as she normally did. She put the kettle on the stove and quickly made a few sandwiches, as the kettle boiled she poured two cups of tea and put also them on a small tray.

As she turned she met Vox piercing eyes, even though she was still cross with him for what had happened during the night, she couldn't let him starve. With a sigh she put down the trey, reached into the cupboard and placed some left over meat in a small bowl and walked the few steps to his cot and placed the bowl at his tiny feet.

She wanted to say something to him, but she didn't want the stallion to hear that conversation, she shuddered at the mere thought that he would learn of yet another embarrassing moment, that being one of the worst. Even though she was cross with Vox, she might need him, who knew what kind of character this stallion was. So as she sat down the bowl she gave Vox a small smile, as to say 'truce...for now', Vox silently began to eat.

She quickly turned and gathered the tray and sat it down next to the stallion, she drew up a stool and sat next to him. Taking a deep breath and putting on a smile she reached out her paw

"I'm not sure you were awake enough earlier to hear, I'm Nisha"

The stallion took her paw in his, she was surprised at his strength, it was a firm and pleasant paw shake. After he had introduced him self she handed him the cup and a sandwich, "Why don't you tell me how on earth you ended up on my path yesterday".

"Aye..."

Conner said softly as it became clear she wasn't going to accuse him of being some lout. He knew it hadn't been truly proper of him to have watched her bathe, at least not when they were complete strangers. Though it eased his guilt a bit to know she had not only seen his own nude form, but had her paws on it as well.

"You've nothing to be ashamed of though lass, You are one fine filly if I do say so myself."

Conner managed with a slight smile. Knowing that she would put many of the mares that had been presented to him to shame just by her mere presence. It wasn't just her external beauty though, it was her heart as well. He knew she had a good one. To have taken him into her home and tended to his wounds. It was clear now that she lived alone, and that she had undertaken quite a bit to bring him back. Clearly he was a burden she might be better off without.

"A fair bit, thanks in no small part to your care"

Conner said with a sigh as she inquired about how he was feeling. His head soon settling back down on the pillow as he watched her. As she moved past him he couldn't help but notice her tail twitch. Though he chose not to mention it.

"Though I doubt I'll be trotting about any time soon."

He added softly as he watched her work. Trying in part to figure her out. He couldn't quite figure out why she had taken such a risk in saving him. Still he was grateful that she had. He knew full well that if she hadn't then he would be sitting with his ancestors now in the great hall. Trading war stories, and telling ribald jokes. Something he was far from ready for. There was so much more he wanted to do. For one there was still the question of finding a suitable mate, and raising a family of his own. Then there was the task of cementing his Clans future. Both tasks he would see to once he was well enough to return.

When he was asked if he was hungry he only just gave a soft grunt to let her know she was as he closed his eyes for a moment. Only opening them again when he heard the stool being placed by his bedside. He almost immediately was back up in a sitting position, though it did cause his head to throb as he did so.

"Conner."

He said pleasantly as he he took her paw. Glad to at least have a name to the striking filly that had become his healer. He sighed again as she asked him about how he had ended up so near death on the side of the road. To him it was almost embarrassing to admit that he a warrior of the highest grade had been bested by a bunch of farmers and tradesmen. Still he told her about the whole thing. How he always took a walk after holding court, and how he had been ambushed by the families of a few stallions he had been forced to have gelded because of certain crimes against the fairer sex. By the way he spoke it was almost clear that he was disturbed greatly by these things. More so of the crimes themselves and how it affected the victims, then by the punishment he had chosen to mete out.

Nisha listened in silence as Connor told his story, her eyes widening and a slight gasp uttered now and then as he came to the part of being beaten. She could vividly see the whole scene in her minds eyes, and it made her cringe to think that someone would get beaten, wanted dead for doing the right thing.

From what she could tell he was an honest and upright stallion, a worthy leader of a clan. She had of course heard stories about the Connor clan, how they were a strong clan, lead with an iron paw, yet very fairly treated. She had always thought it appropriate that the leader of that clan would be a white stallion. Even more appropriate that the clan her mother had once belonged to, the low grade no good for nothing Garrett clan was led by a shady and rugged looking black stallion.

It must have been fate playing it's part in her shunning her self from her clan after her mother passed, if anyone from the Garrett clan were to lay eyes on Connor, there would literally be hell to pay and they would both meet a gruesome death.

"It warms my heart to hear that you rule with strength and fairness"

Nisha was about to continue when a loud snort could be heard from Vox corner of the room. Nisha rolled her eyes and deliberately not turning her face to acknowledge Vox, instead she looked at Connor

"And that would be Vox. Pay him no mind, he's just being his usual grumpy self. I found him wounded in the woods and healed him back to health and even though he complains a lot he obviously don't want to leave."

She rose to her hooves and got the kettle and refilled there cups, sat back down and as the sun rose on the sky outside they continued to share each others stories. She found her self telling him all about her mother, their lives and also of her mothers passing. It was as if a cork had been taken out of the bottle, everything just poured out of her. She could easily had sat there all day, finally having someone to not only talk to but that was also interested, listened and asked questions.

But after a while she saw that he was struggling to keep his eyes open,

"We better stop for now, you need to get some more rest and i need to get some berries picked and check on my trap so we'll get some dinner tonight"

When he was about to refuse she just lay a hand on his chest

"There will be plenty more time to talk, now please rest and soon enough you'll have strength enough to do more."

She tucked the covers around him, by which time he was almost asleep.

"You better come with me"

She said in a low voice to Vox as she put him on her shoulder. Taking a glance back at Connor who was now deep asleep she smiled and slowly shut the door.

Checking her trap she found a hare and on her way back she came across a huge bush of wild raspberries. She quickly filled her basked with the sweet berries, next to the big oak where she often sat and daydreamed she found some wonderful flowers that she picked to lay on her mothers grave.

When she came up to her mother she just lay the flowers and gave her mother a soft smile

"Found some beautiful blue flowers for you today mum"

To her surprise she was reluctant to sit down, all she wanted to do was head back home to see Connor. With a sheepish and embarrassed smile she admitted to her mother

"You understand that I can't stay today don't you mum, I need to make sure Connor isn't awake and need me"

A very vocal snort from Vox spun her head around

"What"

She asked him

"If you have something to say, then say it!"

Of course Vox couldn't speak so he just rolled his eyes at her making it blatantly obvious what his opinion about Connor was.

"Now you listen here, you were once where he is now. I took you in, gave you food and healed you back to health. One would think that you would show him some compassion, instead your acting like a jealous mate. Are you scared I'm going to love him more?"

Nisha was oblivious as to what she had just said, Vox how ever heard her loud and clear. His eyes turning dark green as he starred back at her, Nisha shrugged it off as him being upset with her and really didn't pay that much attention to it. She swooped him up into her arms.

"Can you at least try to be nice to him?"

Vox looked back into her eyes and rubbed his head against her chin. Nisha smiled as she started to walk down to the cottage, knowing that the biggest hurdle with Vox had been taken care of.

For perhaps the first time Conner felt as if his troubles were being truly listened to. That perhaps someone was willing to understand where he stood. His family tended to brush him off when he mentioned how hard it was. Usually spouting off on how it was his duty, and he alone had to bear it. To his fellow clansmen his life was seen as being easy, after all he only had to make the decisions, it wasn't like he had to live with them. At least that was what they thought. He knew that well enough. Only his brother offered any solace, but even he couldn't understand. Sure they had fought in battle together, and both had been groomed for the position he now held. But still there was a chasm there. Perhaps there always would be. He was a rogue after all, albeit a kind and gentle one.

That was why he had first begun taking those walks of his. Alone with his thoughts, he could sort through them as the woodlands brought him a certain peace. Now of course he had found someone who actually wanted to listen, and someone he could really talk to.

He had to smile at her exchange with the small dragon. Especially after she had revealed how he had come into her life as she busied herself with getting them another cup of tea for them both. He could understand the dragons reluctance to leave. He knew that when the time came that he would have a difficult time leaving her company as well, and was about to say so when she started spilling forth her story.

It pained him greatly to hear it. The circumstances around her birth being rather barbaric and unjust. He couldn't believe that any clan would treat the victim so poorly. He almost seethed at the thought of such a crime going unpunished. Still he admired the old mare's strength in having made a life for herself, and for raising such a remarkable daughter. There was little doubt in his mind that Nisha was but a younger reflection of her mother.

He wasn't sure how long they talked, but the conversation seemed to flow so easily. He found her genuinely interesting, as she had lead a rather remarkable life, even if she had managed to shut herself off from the rest of the world. He often found himself asking questions as he sought a greater understanding of her rather unique personality. In some ways it was as if he was talking to a fellow soldier over a tankard of ale, then one of those shallow fillies that so often were forced upon him. The talk being both enjoyable and of some substance.

He was a bit disappointed when she insisted he get some rest. His protests falling on deaf ears as she put her hoof down. He could understand her need to see to her normal routine. Especially now that she had not only herself to take care of but him as well. It wasn't long after she had tucked him in that he was fast asleep. His breaths a lot more even and measured then the night before as he dreamed the day away. He was still sound asleep when she did finally return. The only sign that he had noticed being a slight twitch of his left ear as she closed the door behind her.
