Prologue

A long time ago, sixty-five millions years to be exact. The land masses we know today were once one single continent called Pangaea. It was home to several thousand creatures including mammals, insects, and reptiles. The most common of these were dinosaurs.

However, at the center of Pangaea sat a beautiful valley with vegetation so green it could rival the Amazon Rain Forest. Not only that, but the diversity of the creatures living within this valley was concentrated and full of life. Notwithstanding, the most precious and amazing of all these creatures were Dragons. That was, until the asteroid changed the world forever.

The night was calm and warm as fog developed over the ground. It was dark with the exception of the moon, hanging full in the sky like a giant wheel of cheese. All of the animals within the valley were asleep, with only the nocturnal creatures moving about in the high grass and wooded areas. The air smelled sweet with the aroma of tropical flowers.

The animals living here benefitted greatly from the fragrance, helping to calm them. However, as the night grew, an eerie light orange glow from the sky started to cover the landscape.

Down by the lake, all the Dragons were sleeping soundly; unaware of this glowing light until one of the Fire Dragons woke with a start. He wasn't sure what had awoken him, but could sense that something was terribly wrong.

He slowly arose from his mate, careful not to disturb her, and sniffed the air a couple of times before walking over to the shoreline to get a drink of water. But, as soon as he began to drink, he noticed a faint glow upon the lake and looked up at the moon. Almost immediately he spotted the light right next to it, and stared in wonder. Having never seen this sort of phenomenon before, the Fire Dragon thought it was the most beautiful and pleasant thing he had ever witnessed.

Nevertheless, his reverie was broken by a sudden BOOM as the light quickly changed to resemble a mountain on fire falling from the sky. The sound woke up all the Dragons. A look of horror swept across their faces as they watched this fireball fall way beyond the valley into the distance.

When the asteroid hit, there was an instant flash of bright light, blinding the Dragons for a moment as dirt, rock, and fire went up high into the atmosphere in a massive mushroom cloud. A huge shockwave knocked them off of their feet. Trees toppled and rocks fell. Cracks in the earth gaped, heading toward them.

However, this was not their main problem; a wall of fire headed towards the Dragons at great speed. They turned to flee, but found their path blocked by debris. The Fire Dragon looked at his mate with tears in his eyes, and thought this was the end. Suddenly, a light appeared behind the Dragons. They turned to see a figure standing there, it's wings spread out as if holding open a doorway.

At first, the Dragons were afraid, but the figure smiled, motioning for them to hurry. They sensed the pure goodness coming from the figure and went with him into the light. The doorway closed just as they fire storm hit. The entire valley that once was wondrous and beautiful to behold now lay in ruins.

Laughter could be heard upon the hot wind. "That was totally fun! Let's do it again!" said a light feminine voice.

"No, my love. We have other matters to attend to." A low masculine voice said.

"Aw! Too bad the Dragons got away, huh?" She said.

He replied, "They didn't get away, my sweet. They are right where we want them. Now we go inform the council and wait for the right opportunity. Michael was a fool!"

They both start laughing and fade from sound, leaving the valley in embers.

The being and the Dragons came out of the light into a field of green grass as far as the eye could see. The air was fragrant, as flowers danced in the playful zephyrs. A mix of purple and blue made up the coloration of the sky, complimented with the two suns sitting high above them.

The being turned towards the Dragons and said, "Please make yourself at home here and rest easy. I have saved you all from the destruction and brought you here to live in peace. One day, your race will become a great civilization, but until then, I shall watch over you. My name is Michael; welcome to your new home on Dragos."

Michael smiled as the Dragons explored their new home. Michael's shoulder-length brown hair blew lightly in the breeze. His face was fair, but masculine and showed nothing but compassion for these creatures. His blue eyes looked up at the two suns, reflecting down off of his white robes, wings and golden sash.

Michael nodded and took flight, soaring high above the land. He felt quite pleased with Dragos, knowing the Dragons has a better chance of surviving here than back on Earth. The Dark Realm caused that asteroid to fall and that same evil would, eventually, find its way to this world, as well.

He simply smiled because he had taken precautions and set barriers all around Dragos. However, he knew that they wouldn't last forever. It was his hope that the Dragons would be fully trained by that time. Notwithstanding, Michael had several millennia to wait, and could rest easy for now.
