#3 of G.O.D. Game News

This is a description of one of the places that you will be able to visit in the G.O.D. game: The Forest, where you go and hone your hunting skills.

Also currently the home of deer and wild pigs that are running around and are eager to meet you. Providing you with fun, food and recreation.

The character giving this information out is The Librarian, which you will be able to customize just as you like. His function in the game is - among providing you with a little bit of fun - to also serve as a Wiki for several things that will be in the game and currently are ready to be put in it.

He (or she) will provide you with information about several functions, just in case you do not find them on your own and give you a bit of backstory about the area. For example this bit of historical background information about The Forest.

Currently the game is still being programmed and I am bulking up on text material so it will be easier to slot it into the game as soon as the program itself is done. Hope you enjoy it. If you like to read more of those sneak peeks, check out my patreon page:https://www.patreon.com/Munkus69

"The forests here are quite ancient. They never have been cultivated. In earlier times because people were afraid of the 'haunted forest' and the 'demons' that they apparently have seen. In the era of enlightenment the people were briskly told that there are no such things as demons or ghosts and that they should get their bums into the forest and get in firewood if they knew what's good for them. They did get their bums into the forest as they were told. The only problem is: Almost all of those parties got lost."

"They got lost?" You frown over this information. "But how can experienced wood workers simply go lost?"

"Exactly. No one really knows. There have never been any survivors or people that got overlooked, for lack of a better word. There are no local crazy people claiming that they have witnessed the events and survived by mysterious circumstances. No one claiming to be raped by Bigfoot or seeing strange spectres erupt out of the forests. Don't get me wrong: there have been people like that. But they vanished. Some of them during the night, some in bright daylight. Walking around a corner and disappearing from sight. The machinery they send in stops working after some time and have to be abandoned. Some of them just stop, others get destroyed. But apparently there are no claw marks or anything. It is more like they get damaged by overheating, abuse, friction and the spare parts have mysteriously vanished."

"So what have people done about it?"

"They went pragmatic: If you can't go into the forest to cut trees, start from the border and cut your way in, they thought. But engines continue to fail in and around the forest. Bolts get lost. Oil seems to evaporate from the gears and then the gears rub themselves raw. There seems to be no other explanation than 'Magic'." The Librarian whispers the last word, obviously very uncomfortable with it. "Which is not a very enlightened word to say. But At some point, people simply gave up trying to cultivate the land or gather wood from it. So it remains a vast, almost rainforest like area with ancient trees that has been mostly fenced off to prevent people from just marching in."

"So people simply gave up on it?" It seems natural after so many unnatural occurrences. But still amazing. "No one tried to get any kind of money out of it? That is quite sensible."

"I wish. They tried to get money out of it of course. Sent in experts to measure, scientists to inspect. They either vanished or got no readings at all. After several relatives started suing, the investigation was hastily put to a stop. They tried to make it a tourist attraction as well. Luring people in to marvel at the ancient, haunted forest from the outside. Only to learn that people are quite reluctant to marvel at something only from a distance. More people vanished after furtively sneaking into the forest, more relatives complained and sued. The bad news stopped the tourists from coming, apart from the steady streams of hobby scientists, hobby ghost-hunters and hobby-whatevers that have an unhealthy interest in all things spooky. The only thing that seemingly never gets attacked is the road that leads through a very small part of the forest after the second line of trees. No one knows why that is but in all of those hundreds of years, this is the only thing of the forest where nothing has happened. The only road that allows people to come close to the woods and gaze at the trees. It seems to be some kind of invisible border on which you are allowed to walk. But the second you stick one toe over it, you will be gone."
