Chapter 21: Field of sorrows (September 36th 2019 A.D. - Monday 3:30 PM)

Kitsune stared at the note, his sight wavering as tears rolled down his cheeks as orbs, exploding into droplets as they hit the wooden table. He slowly put his paws over his eyes, his elbows propping him up.

"Why?" he asked the empty room. Kitsune slowly moved from his paws from his eyes as he heard a knock at the door. Quickly his ears raised and he fell out of the sit, hitting his side into the floor. Quickly Kitsune rubbed his eyes trying to dry the tears, and pushed himself to his feet.

"Kit!" came a voice from shon. Kitsune quickly noticed his collar was not around his neck, he looked around for it quickly as he heard the banging. He spotted it near the couch, dashed for it and slides it around his neck, fluidly. Snapping the lock in place he took in a deep breathe trying to control himself, his body shaking, as he walked towards the door. Slowly the young fox opened the door his eyes closed still taking in a breathe of air.

Kitsune could see Shon standing at the door looking worriedly, Folf stood in a black jacket, a white shirt underneath and blue jeans on tightly fit around his calves, and crotch.

"I came over to discuss GLS with you, and when I approached your door I could hear you crying, what's wrong?"

"I-I" Kitsune began to shake looked about and took Shon's wrist pulling him in slowly and shut the door. Kitsune suddenly burst into tears placing his face into Shon's chest. Shon caught by surprise put a paw on Kitsune's back rubbing softly.

"What's wrong? What happened? Where is oz?"

The last words only made Kitsune cry harder slowly dropping to his knees, the fox's head against the man's legs.

"Kit please just calm down and tell me what happened" Shon spoke softly getting on his knees and patting Kitsune's back. Kitsune rubbed his eyes pulling back slowly his weeps slowing until coming to a stop. He pulled his paws from his eyes and looked at Shon's, tears still running down his cheeks.

"O-Oz left..." Kitsune breathed slowly "H-he said he didn't want t-to hurt me s-so he had to leave for awhile".

"Hurt you?"

"It's nothing" Kitsune breathed out "H-he said he'd be watching me and that he'd be back".

"I'm assuming he did something, I can see the bandage on your side and the blood around your shoulders" Shon slowly rubbed Kitsune's arm with his paw "You need to put some clothes on, and then tell me exactly what happened".

"I-I can't"

"Why not? Threatened?"

"No....it's personal" Kitsune looked away.

"Oh" Shon breathed understanding what the young fox was saying "Okay well tell me what you can, but first get dressed; you can't be walking around like that".

Kitsune stood up shaking but then fell back down.

"What's wrong?" quickly Shon reacted, catching the fox that almost fell atop of him.

"I...I can't stand"

"Okay I'm gonna walk you to your bed, and you need to lay down".

Shon put his arm around the back of Kitsune's neck and walked him into the bed room. They entered the bed room and softly Shon laid the fox on top of the bed.

"Cover yourself and tell me everything that you can". Kitsune slowly crawled into the covers tears still running along his white furred cheeks.

"W-we got home, a-and my stomach hurt...he told me to take some medicine, s-so I did and I walked over t-to him and sat on his lap....We talked for a little while and kissed and that sort....Well h-he started to become aggressive and I fainted I think....Th-then I woke up and found a letter, and bandages on my body"

"Is that all? Where is the letter?"

"That's all...the letter is on the table"

"Did he hurt you badly? Any things he may not have covered up with bandages? Your neck?"

"M-my neck is fine....and I may be a little sore but I'm okay...He didn't mean to...it seemed like he lost control"

"It's okay Kit, I'm not judging Oz, and I know he loves you, I'm just worried about you. I want you to get some rest... then you need to eat, and Kit, you should be by yourself for awhile, fainting like that isn't good"

"P-please don't tell anyone"

"Why not?"

"I don't want people to think Oz meant to do it"

"Okay...but you're going to have to tell them something and what about the teachers?"

"I'll tell them all something"

"Okay, now we'll talk after you get some sleep, I'm going to stay in here to make sure you're okay".

"Thank you" Kitsune breathed out, laying his head on the pillow and closing his eyes, still shaking and tears running from his eyes.

Shon walked out of the room, walking towards the table, picking up the letter slowly and studying up and down its form. Giving out a light sigh he put it back on the table and walked back into the room, Kitsune appeared to be asleep, but was still shaking. Shon leaned his back on the wall, and reached into his pocket, producing a cell phone and quickly flipped it open. He slowly tapped away at seven numbers and it began to ring, as he put it up to his ear and muzzle. It stopped ringing and a voice answered.

"Hello" came the voice.

"Look I'm not gonna be able to come, a friend really needs help so maybe some other time". Shon didn't wait for the reply and closed the phone putting it back in his pocket and crossing his arms.

*** (2 hours passed)

Kitsune shook awake, filling coolness in the room, and then looked over to see Shon looking out the window. Kitsune rubbed his eyes and then looked up to see Shon looking back at him.

"How about a walk?"

"Uh, s-sure" Kitsune nodded.

"Good, you're in good shape we'll walk for some food". Kitsune nodded again, slowly moving out of the bed and then quickly pulled the covers over his sheath blushing.

"Right....I'll leave the room so you can dress" Shon blushed and looked away, walking out of the room. Kitsune rubbed his eyes again and moved from the covers over to his bag, opening it up and bending down to shuffle through it for something nice to wear. Suddenly he heard the door open then shut very quickly. Kitsune began to blush heavily before hearing "Ummmm just wanted to say I'll be outside waiting...sorry didn't mean to get another look...." Kitsune sighed and continued looking through the bag.

Shon walked out the dorm blushing heavily.

"Did not mean to do that again" Shon closed his eyes and leaned against the wall outside of the door. Kitsune came out slowly blushing lightly, wearing a light blue t-shirt, and white shorts, un-buttoned at the top. On the middle of the t-shirt was the pattern of a sun flower with a smiley face.

"ummm..." Shon's eyes shifted "Nice butt". Kitsune blushed looking at him.

"Th-thanks" Kitsune rubbed the back of his head shyly, "Where are we going?"

"Just a small restaurant up the street, I'll pay for your meal, I just wanted to help you calm down and talk about it"

"Thank you so much, but this seems more like a date than just helping me calm down"

"What better way to calm down then on a date" chuckled Shon "come on a date between friends then. Besides maybe you can tell me about FU, besides on a date I would never ask someone to walk".

"Point taken" Kitsune smiled "But now I feel so underprivileged".

"Do you wanna drive instead?"

"No I'm fine, just playing around". Shon took Kitsune's paw in paw and began to lead him down the stairs.

"You should probably keep holding my paw; you don't need to be fainting on a sharp rock". Kitsune blushed and held to Shon's paw following him down each step softly.

"So let's talk" Shon looked back walking down the steps "Why are you here in the uni?"

"Oh" Kitsune looked shyly away "I want to be a writer".

"I see, do you have anything you work on?"

"You bet" Kitsune replied "On our computer I've been writing a story".

"What's it about?"

"It's just a silly romance story" Answered the fox "though I lost touch sometimes and the chapters may just talk about the main character's day to day life with his friends...I guess I like to offer more information than is needed, but it answers questions people may ask. Not everyone will ask but some people really like to know this stuff".

Moments later, they slowly walked from the dorm building towards the university.

"I saw you have a healthy figure" Shon blushed "Do you work out?"

"If sitting on my ass is work out sure" giggled Kitsune "well actually I do practice martial arts every now and then, and I like to take walks when the weather is nice".

"Martial arts? Wouldn't think you were the kind to like fighting"

"I don't" Kitsune Walked slightly closer "at first I learned it to spend more time with my father, he was really into martial arts, when I was doing kenpo he was my sensei, but then he got interested in Kung fu, and I was still not finished with kenpo. But I've really learned to love the beauty of fluid motion in combat; I like hand to hand and even weapon play. Maybe I can do a demonstration for you someday. But I'm not one to fight I'd rather steer clear of any violence it only causes trouble"

"So you actually finished kenpo?"

"Yes" nodded Kitsune "and I saw my father practice kung fu, which I believe he practices three different types, but I just watch the moves and mix them in with my own style".

"I see" Shon turned around and stopped "I forgot to ask, if you mind if I stay in oz's dorm with you?"

"Huh" Kitsune became flushed "Wh-what for?"

"Because you're in no condition to be alone, so either I stay with you, you stay with me or you stay with your friends"

"Oh...Oz asked me to look after the dorm...so you can stay with me I guess".g

"Good then it's settled, now follow me, I know a short cut to the restaurant, you don't mind walking beside a road do you?"

"No sir" Kitsune shook his head "now in a road I have problems with".

"Okay then" Shon reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a pack of cigarettes, and pushed one of the long slender objects into his muzzle, and put the pack away, pulling a lighter from his pocket he lit the cigarette and put the lighter away "Okay sorry...it's a bad habit but I had to light". Shon held out his paw for Kitsune, but Kitsune backed away as smoke began to flow from the cigarette's tip.

"What's wrong?" Shon questioned, the cigarette in the side of his maw hanging small cinders falling from its tip.

"I-I'm allergic to the smoke" Kitsune backed away slightly.

"Oh...well you're okay as long as it doesn't get to you right?"

"Y-yeah I just can't be beside you and hold your paw. I'll just walk behind you until you're done".

"Alright, sorry I didn't know" Shon began to walk again.

"It's no problem" Kitsune followed behind slowly "So what about you? Do you exercise you look very healthy".

"Every once in awhile I do something or another for my body it's nice this uni has a gymnasium so I can go swimming whenever I want. Speaking of which maybe the fox would like to go for a plunge after eating?" Asked Shon turning about and holding the cigarette in his paw behind him.

"Swimming after eating is bed you know" Kitsune retorted "you can get cramps and drown".

"Don't worry if you start to drown I'll get you, you don't look to heavy I bet I could carry you all the way to the restaurant"

"I don't doubt it, I'm not too heavy" Kitsune smiled.

"So uhhh if you don't mind me asking something private..."

"Depends on what it is" Kitsune blushed. Shon put the cigarette in his mouth and looked turned around continuing to walk, blush forming around his cheeks.

"Nyah it's not something I should ask"

"Well now you've got me curious of what you were going to ask" Kitsune whimpered.

"Sorry It's not important believe me it's a stupid question"

"...Okay"

*** (an hour passed as they walked along chit chatting about there lives and other things amongst each other, until they reached the parking lot of the restaurant)

Kitsune looked up at the sign, holding Shon's paw now that the cigarette was gone, the sign read "Kabuki" Kitsune almost squealed as he saw the sign, the building resembling an old edo age small version of a castle or a noblemen's house.

"You like?" Shon smirked.

"Omigosh, I love Kabuki it's so great...it's my favorite restaurant ever"

"Okay then your meal is on me okay, but there is one requirement"

"Oh, what's that?"

"Don't you dare look at the prices of what you order...in fact I'm going to special request that they give you a menu without the prices"

"I don't need a menu" Kitsune smiled "I know exactly what I want"

"Oh, alright then" Shon took Kitsune's paw and began to lead him forward into the restaurant. The inside had a musk that Kitsune whiffed up, loving the smell of the rice, chicken and shrimp inside. The sounds of families and friends chattering amongst themselves at a table with a grill on the top of it, where the chefs prepared the food for the customers. Flames bursting from the grills and surprising the furs all around. Shon was greeted, by a Female tiger waving a paw at the two furs.

"Hello welcome to Kabuki, how many in your party?" She greeted quickly.

"Two" answered Shon smiling over to Kitsune.

"Okay follow me to your table" The woman led the way, Shon still held onto Kitsune's paw, making the small fox, blush as people looked upon him. Shon slowly pulled a sit from under the table, offering Kitsune to sit first. Kitsune sat in the chair and Shon pushed it in, till Kitsune's chest was but a centimeter from the table. Then he himself sat down directly to the right of Kitsune.

The hostess lay a menu down on the table in front of them both.

"Nice to see couples like yourselves in here" she whispered "especially with all the problems here". She then walked off leaving Kitsune to blush and Shon smirked over towards him.

"So you know what you're going to get?"

"Chicken tempura, with shrimp, lots of fried rice, and a tall glass of water" Kitsune replied Smiling.

"That sounds nice; I might just have that too".

"So tell me a bit about your family...I noticed that you have very long ears, bunny genes?"

"No" Kitsune giggled "My mother is a fennec fox and my father a red fox, That's the reason my fur is orange-ish red, and why my ears are so long, probably also why I'm short".

"Your name is Japanese, is you family Asian?"

"Maybe" Kitsune shrugged "But originally my name wasn't Kitsune, originally my name was Jessica, after a great ancestor of mine, but my father had it changed to Kit because he felt the name sounded too un-masculine".

"An ancestor named, Jessica" Shon looked down slightly "Why does that sound familiar, I was named after one of my ancestors as well, Inali that is, Shon isn't my real name, just what I choose to be called, it's easier to pronounce for most people, My true name Is Tonga Inali, I believe the ancestor I was named after was a wealthy man, I believe later on in life he helped with hiding away slaves on his estate, so they could escape".

"Wow, at least you know your ancestor's history"

"Well I looked it all up and followed though that's what you have to do to find something out" Shon smiled over at Kitsune.

"Well I might just look it up" Kitsune gave a smile "So you said you were coming by to talk about GLS earlier".

"Oh yeah, I wanted to talk to you about earning money for GLS" spoke Shon "I suppose our first one should be a fund raiser, and I was wondering where we should start holding the meetings". Kitsune looked about for awhile, and then rubbed his right ear slowly then looked back at Shon.

"How about we cruise some bars!" Kitsune exclaimed happily.

"Cruising for boys?"

"No, I meant maybe a few bars out there will let the meetings of GLS be there"

"Nyah, bars stay upon and crowded, they'd probably say no even if they did accept the grouped" Shon shook his head "It'd be best to find a building used only in the mornings".

Kitsune looked at the ceiling, and then closed his eyes.

"I think I know a good place" Kitsune placed his paws on the table.

"Where is that?"

"My father used to have a dojo a little ways from here, but he closed it down when he started training in other arts, we could use that for our first fund raiser and as our permanent meeting place" Kitsune smiled "Now what do you have in mind for the fund raiser?"

"Let's see, we could try and sell something, or maybe hold something and sell tickets" Shon shook his head "They are all only fifty fifty chances that they'll earn money".

"I have an idea" Kitsune smiled "It's just a little silly and it dawned upon me when I thought about my daddy's dojo. But we could hold a fund raising sparring session".

"Sparing session?"

"Yeah, we sell tickets, and we let two furs spar in the dojo in front of the crowd for three minutes, and it ends at three minutes, we'll only use people who can hold there own, so they won't get hurt within three minutes unless the person they are against is 'Way' better than them".

"You think that's a good idea? pretty violent no?"

"Well we don't know many people who will do it, maybe later for funds...hmmm then what should we do?"

"...How about a drag show?"

"Do you think a lot of people would come? or even join?" Kitsune asked looking over the table.

"Yeah that's true....But it's either that or nothing".

"Alright then but ummm, I'd like to be in it" Kitsune smiled.

"Oh really? I don't suppose you have anything to wear?"

"Nope, I can go out and buy something" Kitsune leaned back.

"So that's the plan a drag show for funds then we can go from there"

"Yes"

*** (an hour later)

Kitsune Walked out of the restaurant behind Shon his tail wagging and a smile on his face.

"That was good" Kitsune smirked.

"Glad you liked it, now how about we do something else?"

"Something else...like what?"

"What's something you like to do?"

"...hmmm you wanna meet Ryu and my friends?"

"Sure". Kitsune grabbed Shon's paw and smiled.

"Okay then dorm room number B7-68 Is Ryu's place"

"Oh yeah? Wasn't that originally your dorm?"

"Yes well, I never expected to see Oz, I mean....we were going to get together after this year, we had it all planned, I never got to ask him where he got the money to come here...I mean he couldn't have grown wings and flown over here....I really want to know why he had to leave..." Kitsune sighed.

"hmmmm, Kitsune do you have Anthropology?"

"Yes why?"

"I was just curious...did you know that humans had a strange calendar...see there calendar was based on the stars, but it was odd because so is ours, they had 30 to 31 day calendars and February's was 28 to 29. But our calendars for every month except February are 40 days long and February is 36 to 38 days. Do you know what that means?"

"Ummmm it would mean that the planet's revolution has slowed for some reason, yet its Rotation hasn't slowed so we still have 24 hours....why is that?"

"That's what I was waiting for, no one knows what happened to humans a lot of archeologists believe that they used these large weapons and wiped each other out, others believe that the holy one destroyed the humans, and gave there powers to us" Shon chuckled at the end of his sentence..

"Wow...so the earth used to be faster?"

"Correct, I found it out while doing a project for Mr. Jefferies.....Speaking of the cat do you know who has the hots for him?"

"His wife?" Kitsune's head tilted.

"He isn't married he says that so the girls stop bothering him because he's such a young teacher, no Mr. Leonard wants to ask him out"

Kitsune looked at Shon surprised.

"Those two are good friends from college days, that's why Leonard is scared to ask out Mr. Jefferies, because he's scared to lose his friendship with him if it doesn't work out"

"I can understand, I could never ask a best friend out because I would have gotten to used to them as a friend rather than a lover" Kitsune smiled "Me and my mate were friends for three days and then we became a couple...". Kitsune sighed and slowed his pace a little.

"What's wrong?"

"What if he can't fix the problem?"

"Oh come on, any problem can be fixed....Either way you can't think too much about this you have a life you have to live".

"I know" Kitsune walked slightly faster catching up to Shon "I can probably walk on my own by now, without your paw".

"I figured but you have such nice paws, I liked holding it, if you want I can let it go"

"No..It's nice" Kitsune smiled up at Shon.

"Hey when we get to Ryu's you can make a character on destiny wars" Kitsune giggled "I completely forgot about mine".

"Destiny wars?"

"It's an online game where you play through the BAX system, online with like a billion other people, and you can use guns and swords and magic and such. It's basically a game where you and your friends group together to fight other clans and try to reach #1, or team stinks but it's only of me and Ryu right now, to officially be In a clan, you need three people, a leader, a scout, and a soldier, you at least need one of each of the main categories. A scout can be a sniper, hacker, or thief or all at once. A leader can be a defender, a tactician, or commander, Ryu's the leader because he's the highest level, he's just a commander. Soldiers can be grunts, operatives, and frontline or all at the same time. That's just within a clan individually you have classes, which get different types of weapons and armor and such. There is Fighters, who excel in strong attack weapons, Samurai, who excel in fast movement and all types of blades but very limited amount of guns, gunner, who uses all kinds of guns but few close range weapons, technicians who use few close range or long range weapons but use any type of explosive, Mages very few weapons at all but lots of magic abilities, and last you can also be Healer, who excels in making medicine and using healing spells The least amount of weapons go to this class" Kitsune took a big breath after all of that.

"Wow, sounds in depth, so you make a character to play around with and have clan wars"

"Right! Me and Ryu need one more person to join us so we can battle, and since you'll be staying with me in Oz's dorm we can play through my BAX system, I was gonna get oz too do try it out...but any who he can join when he get's back, I'm a scout and Ryu's the leader so we need a soldier"

"Heh, I'm more a thinker than a fighter"

"It's just titling, it really doesn't matter what you do, Ryu's a leader but he fights more than plans, and I'm a scout but I make a lot of strategies, me and Ryu have played in the practice games where you just join random people and train"

"I see, is it only limited to three people?"

"No, a clan can have three hundred members actually....but to hold that many your clan has to be max level which is 20, ours is 0 because we don't even have a third person, once we get a third we can become level 1 and commit to a real game with other three member clans".

"What's your clan named?"

"We are, the rising sun"

"Wow, how original" Shon spoke sarcastically.

"Come on it's hard to find a name not taken" Kitsune whined.

"Okay I'll make a character then".

"YAY" Kitsune shouted with joy.

*** (15 minutes later)

Kitsune bursted through Ryu's dorm door, Ryu looked at the door as Shon followed Kitsune in.

"Wow, kit you fairly ever pay us a visit up here"

"I know but guess what!"

"What?"

"I said Guess". Ryu shook his head and then scratched his brown head fur.

"Uhhh ummmm...you got your ear pierced?"

"Well yeah but that's not it" Kitsune smiled "Shon said he'd join or clan". Shon nodded at this.

"Finally" Ryu spoke "So what class are you gonna be?"

"What can use a bow?"

"Gunners can use any long range weapon and some of the swords" Ryu answered "It should have a better name but it doesn't matter, they didn't add swords till a few months ago, when Kit joined". Ryu stood up and stretched and then walked up to a little black and grey box sitting besides the TV and pushed in a button. The screen that was once showing the new suddenly flashed and then in big Silver letters Read "BAX". Ryu picked up the controller and handed it to Shon.

"Make your character, and then you can upload him to Kit's B.A.X. so you can play it in his dorm. Oh and Kit I was wondering if you have the visual unit thing?" Asked Ryu as Shon sat on the couch studying the create-a-character screen.

"Yes" Kitsune answered "My daddy was so sweet, when I came to college he sent me so much money for extra things like the computers and stuff, and I had a lil' extra so I could get the unit, it's a lot more so fun if you see it through your eyes, it seems so real sometimes, I get scared when I get shot at while wearing those"

"I've heard you screech kit during the game, I know but I agree, it gets scary once bombs go off and someone rushes at you with a sword and you're reloading" Ryu shook his head "My armor is good and all, but it slows me down so dodging is hard, you samurai and gunners have good evasion and even healers have great evasion".

"Yeah...So has Yoshi been here?"

"Yes" Ryu answered "she said she'd be coming by to see her little brother Kit-Chan".

"YAY" Kitsune clapped his paws together "I can't wait, I've been really busy with school starting and haven't got to see my sissy much"

"Yeah yeah, so where is oz". Kitsune froze up, thinking of an answer, that wouldn't make Ryu worry and looked over at Shon, who quickly reacted.

"Ozwot had to go home" Shon looked over at Ryu "he left me a message saying he'd like me to watch over Kit while he was gone".

"What's wrong?" Ryu questioned.

"H-he didn't say" Kitsune looked away "he came into the room last night in a rush and told me had to go home and that he would be back as soon as possible". Kitsune's lie felt like the sting of a scorpion on his tongue, for lying to his friend. Shon nodded.

"That's why I'll be staying with Kitsune to make sure he is okay" Shon looked back at the screen.

"Oh..Okay" Ryu looked over at Shon then sat down on the couch "So kit, how is GLS going?"

"Fine" Kitsune's eyes began to run around the room.

"You okay kit?" Shon asked looking away from the game once more. Kitsune didn't notice the question as he rubbed his head then shook it and looked at Shon.

"Sorry I wasn't paying attention" Kitsune spoke "What did you say again?"

"Nothing, don't worry about it" Shon shook his head and went back to the screen.

Kitsune slowly walked over to the right side of Shon and sat down, starting at the ground lost in thoughts. Ryu looked over at Kitsune noticing something was wrong, he went to speak but nothing came out. Ryu leaned back letting his thoughts dissipate. Kitsune stared at a fixed position his thoughts floating about until suddenly Shon's finger prodded into Kitsune's cheek. Kitsune caught by the shock fell over the side of the couch frightened, and screeching from the sudden touch. Kitsune rubbed his head and looked at the two chuckling at his clumsiness. He gave a glare at the two blushing as he stood up.

"You okay kit?" they both asked in unison.

"Y-yeah, I was lost in thought and then you caught me by surprise"

"Well anyways Kitsu...I was wondering what class are you? On this game that is?"

"Oh yeah, I chose samurai" Kitsune smiled sitting back down.

"What for?"

"I've always liked the tales about samurai and that sort"

"Oh I see Anything to do with your family history?"

"Wha?"

"Your name is Japanese no?"

"Oh well yes, my last name is my actual name" Kitsune smiled "Don't know how that happened, but my first name has been changed".

"Why so?"

"...my mother named me Jessica" Kitsune blushed "my father didn't like it so now I have this name, Kitsune Warui".

"Oh I see" Shon looked into the screen finally clicking finish. The character that showed on screen resembled him heavily, almost perfect. Kitsune smiled at the screen adoring the resemblance. But Kitsune's mind quickly rushed to the one person who gave him ultimate happiness, he felt his breath slow and tears roll from his eyes as he suddenly fell forward his vision quickly blurring and as he hit the floor he lost consciousness.

'Oh how life loves to toy with me' Kitsune thought before he hit the ground, his mind fluttering in pain.
